I dig it! Only big downside I see is the lack of analog triggers given it's power boost. I was hoping they'd have some kind of low profile analog triggers or something, but it's cool! Just updating the handheld given they got new cpu's, screens and sticks.
I'm very tempted, but no analog triggers will make some games harder to play, and I have an RP5 pre-order that will take another month or two to even ship.
Im so torn between this and the RP Mini. I'm leaning towards this one though because the screen's a bit bigger and the nostalgia of the old Gameboy form factor is so tempting
@@6mazing that controll scheme looks dog doodoo and the chipset being that makes it overkill for me along with being overpriced (and then there's the general ayaneo pricing)
Well guys, I got mine and I love it. I haven't truly pushed it's limits, but I've played star wars battle front 2, midnight club 3 both for the ps2, pokemmo, and a few other titles. It's very comfortable, light and has decent power
Firstly, I just want to say thank you to Zu and GoGameGeek. I too am super stoked about the RG35XX-SP. I like horizontal handhelds; but, I also really enjoy the vertical form factor. Whether it be a clamshell like the SP or a solid rubenesque beauty like the RG405 and 406 V-models, having the screen above the buttons just makes sense to me. I'm really digging the RG406V. I loved the looks and layout of last year's RG405V. Unfortunately I felt that it, like all of the T618 handhelds from everyone last year, was somewhat overpriced for the performance on tap. It was overkill for the older systems and underkill (is that a thing?) for much of the PS2 and GameCube libraries. The T820 seems to have the right amount of top end power for me, because I have zero interest in Switch and will happily tinker to get the most out of it for PS2 and GameCube. I've watched a metric ton of videos on this unit. I've invested literally hours of my life researching if the RG406V is going to be a good buy for me. I've checked out myriad channels I never otherwise watch. I've got to say, with all sincerity, that Zu's review has been one of the better ones I've seen. They've all offered me unique perspectives and I feel that all were worth watching. However, I want to take a moment to give Zu credit for not wasting my time. It took me longer to write this comment praising his review than it did to watch his review... ...And I don't feel like I missed out on a thing. Much of this unit is built out of carryover tech. Acknowledging that fact and then focusing on the new stuff that makes it unique was the right choice. One could say that Mr. Zu made a lot of sense.
While you might have had a similar issue with the triggers on the 40xxV as the 405V, their design actually looks like the ones on the 406V and do not go right to the edge of the device.
Cant wait to get mine. I just ordered it today. There is a Chinese holiday, so i dont think they're shipping anything until after the 8th 😪 im going to mallorca this weekend so im taking my anbernic sp 😅
Thanks for the review! Question on the different versions for sale I've seen in your links. The ones that are for sale with no memory card... I'm assuming the unit comes with the operating system on the internal memory and all the retroarch and Anbernic software is internal and already set up? Am I correct in assuming you just would need to pick up a microsd card and drop all your roms on the microsd card and you're good to go? Or do you need to also go out and search out all the emulators and all the setup files in addition if you don't get one with a memory card. Sorry if it's a stupid question... new to these units!
No, the no-SD card versions come with all the emulators and the stock front-end. You'll just need to provide a card with roms. It's probably better in the long run to replace some of the stock emulators yourself if you really want to maximize performance, but for a novice, they'll work fine.
So Zu, when you say 5x upscaling on GB, GBC and 4x on GBA, what do you mean exactly by that? Using a shader? Or am I missing something? Does retroarch have an "upscale" slider like other emulators? 1x/2x/3x/4x/5x ?
The 720p screen is a direct multiple of the original screen size. So for Gameboy or Gameboy color, the screen was 144p wide. If you multiply that by five, you get 720p. The screen isnt't the same ratio, so you'll have black bars on top or the sides, but the 406V screen will display the pixels multiplied up as whole numbers, or integers.
no, not upscale, perfect 5x here just means that original 1 pixel is presented as a perfect square of 5x5 pixel on this screen, a "not perfect" scaling would be 1 pixel is presented as some weird "not square" like 5x4 pixel and there'd be some artifact like megaman's health bar
I feel like the reviewers are the only ones buying these things. I see them all over youtube but never on a bus or a train or a plane. These are supposed to be toys. So you could buy it for a kid. What kind of kid wants to deal with custom software and screen adjustment and overclocking and upscaling? I played PSP as a kid, but if I buy this thing for my nephew he wouldn't know what to do with it. Just thinking.I don't have a conclusion.
Android handhelds are pretty much just an Android tablet with a permanently attached game controller. If you know how to stream over Wi-Fi on an Android phone or tablet then it should work the exact same way here. If you don't, find a good tutorial for pretty much any recent Android device and follow it. I'd be shocked if Zu or Stubbs didn't have a streaming service tutorial on this channel. If they don't, ETA Prime and/or Russ from RGC should have you covered.

Looks awesome! I dont think ill quite replace my 353v yet. But man, the future looks bright!
I'm going to buy this Handheld as my second Retro Achievement Handheld.
I really hope they make a Wood Grain color for the RG406V.
Price $275 CAD shipped, I'd recommend anything but Anbernic for that price.
Why do Canadian Customs hate these handhelds so much?
Lol I only paid 212 for expedited shipping
