That interview with Eddie Murphy after he and others had left the Purple Rain movie was a trip. Man, Eddie in late 1984 in his prime and that famous laugh of his during that interview is just priceless to me.
You know im watching this star-studded event this tribute to Prince because they knew this man was going to be the one! I feel sorry for whoever was born after 1990 because you guys really missed out on great music! Michael,Prince ans Madonna 🖤👍🏿🔥all of them were fire at this time. Including Eddie
I feel so fortunate growing up in the 80's this moment was larger than life! We didnt have computers or technology so me and my friends would all play outside and if one of us went inside for a drink and caught Prince or Michael Jackson they would always scream out "Prince is on mtv" or "Michael Jackson is on mtv" in which we would all run to our homes and Watch the video those were the days and I'm so happy I grew up back then to experience it!
this is very rare.when purple rain came out i was only nine in 1984. loved the movie and i remember i bought the single from the soundtrack album when doves cry on the flip side of the record 17 days. love prince and may he rest in peace.
I was 8 and I hardly knew anything about Prince or half these people until I was 12. Been a fan ever since! Not one album he ever made did I not get!! I hate he is gone! We need him back God plz!!
I need more of this! I miss these days, I really do! Everything was poppin at the time. Music, movies, tv shows, wrestling, nba, nfl, nhl, toys etc. You had to be there!!!!!
I wish we could make a big ole time machine and leave it in the 80's and 90's forever. After the year 1999 we could just turn it back to 1980 and repeat over and over again lol.
Wasn't Michael getting ready for his final tour with his brothers? I crack up when I see Mike saying that it's the last show (when it originally wasn't) and his brothers being triggered in the background. Little Richard was hilarious. "I made a Bible just for Prince."
Thank you for saying that at the end Lionel Richie, about what Prince did. He got it right off. He is one of the first and few artist to have a successful visual album. (Purple Rain) That's right people, before Beyonce's Lemonade. Even though I love Beyonce :)
scritti politti as the background music ...wow was this 80s personified. .this was when the music world finally began moving away from thriller to purple rain....Michael Jackson cleaned up at all the music awards one year, and then at all the awards shows the next year prince followed suit...84 was an amazing year in music. .in my opinion the best year for music in the 80s followed by 87.
'84 was the best no daubt, Michael Jackson's Thriller was still hot, Prince released Purple Rain, Bruce Springsteen released Born in the USA, Van Halen released 1984, Madonna released Like a Virgin, MTV peaked that year, the 80s were in full swing in '84.
@@johnsonmark65 agree...I always felt 84 was the most "80ish" year of the 1980s...the music , movies , and TV shows that year were amazing..you nailed it...I remember thinking even in elementary school...wow 84 is cool...only year I ever actually realized was classic in real time
Seeing as how the 1980s is my favorite decade for music, it's a trip seeing this video and seeing all those 1980s stars ⭐ getting out of limos or getting interviewed.
@2:50 The younger white bodyguard wearing the black shirt and white suspenders is none other than former WCW pro-wrestler, NFL football player and Minnesota native...Scott Norton!
Eddie is soooo handsome and Charlie wow.My sweet Little Richard😔 and Shelia is always saying few word just like the appearance on Arsenio Hall Patti Labelle tried to get her to respond to certain things she wanted answered and Shelia wouldn't respond just smile.
Oh man I remember that summer so well, i sent all my bologna to Weird Als’ house for the holidays, and all my watermelons went to John Cougers Mellencamp
Sheila E looked good. She should've been in "PURPLE RAIN" since she's like a sister to Prince. Eddie Murphy looked surprised that his movie "BEST DEFENSE" was playing right down the street.
What are the names of those New Wave joints playing in the background during the interviews of Little Richanrd 1932-2020 and John Cougar Mellencamp, and Lionel Richie? I haven't heard them since I was 14.
That's why I was crying with laughter when they interviewed Eddie!!! "Eddie what did you think of the movie?" --- "well I think Prince is me of this generation " ...lmmfao
Prince's hair style, general flamboyance and the thing he did with "girly" screams (i.e. how he looked and behaved during 81-85, or the "1999 and Purple Rain-era") is reminiscent of Little Richard in his prime though.
Can I die and go to heaven and have it be this premier party, with Little Richard doing his jesus piece, sheila e and eddie murphey, even if all I get to do is eat chicken nuggets with weird al and peewee herman! WHY CANT POP MUSIC BE THIS FUN NOW
Little Richard is my energy! "Prince is me, Michael Jackson is me, The Beatles are me!" Yaaaaaas tell it Little Richard!
Dang, Hayden...
Oh shut up!
Damn calm down Ray. So sensitive.

Rest in Peace, Prince. You were one of a kind.
How time flies.....
RIP Prince RIP Charlie Murphy and now RIP Little Richard.
I was 13 years old when this aired... that movie , that album, that performance and Prince's genius was and is to this day unmatched.
i was of-age, it was even better being close to his age group (he was a boomer, i'm genX)
Charlie Murphy in the back when Eddy is being interviewed. Probably just got done kicking Rick James in the chest...into a hotel mirror.
this made me laugh harder than i should have omg
It was a Bruce Lee...cross kick or something.
Also,I think I'm bleeding inside my chest...🤣🤣🤣
Cocaines a hell ova drug.....

Same age!
Wtf was you watching this movie for at 9🤤😯(and who in the fuck let you in the theater)🤣
I was 9 too, my sisters took me to the theater. It's hard to describe to this generation what stars like Prince, MJ, Madonna and others meant to us.
I was 8 and I hardly knew anything about Prince or half these people until I was 12. Been a fan ever since! Not one album he ever made did I not get!! I hate he is gone! We need him back God plz!!
I am with Sheila.
Prince.

are you 12?
Amazing clip. RIP one of the greatest ever.

Eddie's bro in the back look like he was about to bite someone's head off lol
Such is the "magic" of PCP.
Things were so much Bigger and more Epic in the 80's that said the whole set up here looks like a High School Dance
It was better because we weren’t saturated with the internet and having to wait for things made it more appreciated.
Charlie Murphy n the back chilling ready to beat someone ass
Lol
I lived in California when this aired . I miss my California 80s childhood.
The best rock movie ever! I was 13 and saw this back to back at the movies in Landover, Md.
And while this was happening, at the same time Michael Jackson was getting ready for his victory tour, damn we really had it great in the 80s.
Why ?
The reason why is because people knew how to have good clean fun back then. Nowadays, it's all about spreading hate thanks to apps like TikTok.
is "ready for his victory tour" code for touching up small boys?
Wow to have the 80's back. Look at Charlie he really was the muscle.
I wish we could make a big ole time machine and leave it in the 80's and 90's forever. After the year 1999 we could just turn it back to 1980 and repeat over and over again lol.
YES!!! Let's make that happen!!!!

I love the pissy look on Charlie Murphy's face around 10:00...I guess this was after Prince beat his ass in that basketball game? 😂😂😂😂😂😂
the basketball game happened later in the year
