it was an amazing time. I don't think it will be repeated.
Tony Blass Never , that night history was made literally. And Prince knew that . He accomplished his vision. The people that witnessed that will speak of it for the rest of their lives. Sure wish I could of been there .

Wow amazing classic footage!
Wow 1984. I don't know if I can even remember life that long ago. Look at all these people form the past.
WOW! Such a great feeling to hear that Christopher Reeve (Superman) loved Prince. WOW!
Yes indeed!
An amazingly creative human being, a very respected musician. We'll love him forever.
The only man that made purple 💜 look fantastic like a shooting shooting star
Prince and the Revolution 💜🎶💜🎶💜🎶💜🎶💜🎶🕊
Christopher Reeve !!
According to his tour manager he had no idea the crowd was that large outside the theater and was pretty freaked out when he saw the crowd
Amazing footage of so long ago....remembering when...awesome!
Aawwww Appolonia's dad is so proud he's trying not to cry.
I wonder how he reacted in the cinema when he saw his daughter strip nekkid and "purify herself in the waters of Lake Minnetonka" 😂😂😂
I notice that to.
@@WestIndianAK 😄i thought the same thing.
@@WestIndianAK Now that's history right there! But the way he was all over her kissing her,who knows he may have enjoyed it lol jk
The 80s were so cool. I missed a period in that I was only three when the 90s hit. Damn it all!
the 90s is awesome too
This is also true. :)
LOL, and I was 4 when this aired..
It's ok i was a teen during this time and i can tell u if you got to be on this earth at any time Prince and Michael were here u were blessed.
@CBrown9578. Indeed. I was 10 when I saw this premiere on MTV back in the day and will NEVER forget it! I also recall Eddie Murphy showing up and what he said as well as him VJing on MTV showing, "Little Red Corvette".
LOL!!! That was crazy. What a handicam mess but that was a magical time and I appreciate the shared coverage.
"We wanna talk 2 Prince, but he just doesn't talk 2 anybody, GOODNIGHT"! Lol's!
This is right around the time Prince first hit my radar and I've been a big fan ever since!!
Wow! amazing footage.
thank you baby
mooky chil..boo
The "I love Prince!" girl at the end - where is she now?
I was on the far left side sitting on someone's shoulders right as Big Chick and Prince walked by, and I was snapping pics with my polaroid camera! I ended up getting the whole side of Big Chicks arm, and a sliver of Prince's purple glitter jacket...but boy did I have so much fun that day and night! It was just like yesterday:)
Rest in peace Prince 🎤🎶🎸💜🕊️
This was pretty early in Prince’s career....we had no idea what was about to be unleashed. A whirlwind of talent packed into the man walking by wearing that purple coat. He was so young but even at this point he had written & produced hundreds and hundreds of excellent songs and was about to embark on his first huge tour of the US and Europe. He looked so calm and cool but was probably a little nervous; he wasn’t yet used to so much attention. The film was a gigantic hit showcasing his unbelievable talents. Must’ve been a fun party that night!
WOW! SUPERMAN loved PRINCE
Very cool! Wow - some of them looked so young! lol
LOL I was probably just born around the time this video was shot! Very cool!
The look on princes face!! Priceless. He looked so snooty , like ..I know I'm a bad ass and I don't have to talk to none of you. Ego!! ...That little back teenage girl screaming I love Prince. And that dude in the back ground yelling oh! My God Prince. It was a frenzy ! The fame hit Prince like a avalanche. Literally !!!**
what a time to be a Prince fan, literally purple hysteria swept the world. Now its just a few of us on the message boards online.
Way too much awesomeness in this footage, I refuse to dissect it!
For a moment in the 80s, Prince and Devo were planning a tour together, fact. 2:24
Even Superman was a Prince fan. :)
Superb!
so cool.. Shocked that I didn't find it sooner..Can't believe that it's been online since 2011.
I remember Quiet Riot...!.. That interviewer wasn't the best.. but this makes up for MTV's poor coverage.. lol
Entertainment Tonight's Jeanne Wolf. Her hair was so hard it cut my face.
This still the best Prince none DVD extra ever. Thank you for doing it and sharing.
Wow, thank you!
awww thank u thank u for uploading this!!tony!!! omg, u just made my day! awww.. Prince.. i swear i could die for him!
I have never seen this omg. awesome
WOW!!! ❤💛💚❤💛💚❤💛💚

On this day in 1984 {July 27th} Prince's movie "Purple Rain" had its world premier in the U.S.A. and the United Kingdom...
The film won an Academy Award for 'Best Original Score'...
Five songs featured in the movie made Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; "When Doves Cry" {#1 for 5 weeks & was #1 on the movie's premier day}, "Let's Go Crazy" {#1 for 2 weeks}, "Purple Rain" {#2}, "I Would Die 4 U" {#8}, and "Take Me with U" with Apolllonia Kotero {#25}...
Quiet Riot were there? That's fucking awesome.
poor Pee Wee the laughed behind his back :(
Unbelieveable this was today, just couple of years ago
Wow Clarence Williams was so young?
rest in peace Chris
Apollonias dad, he's is one hot blooded proud latin man right there :-)
I wonder how he reacted in the cinema when he saw his daughter strip nekkid and "purify herself in the waters of Lake Minnetonka"...😂😂😂
When being a REAL star meant that you had REAL talent not like today's BULLSHIT starlets
You are correct
Why sit here and watch a Prince Video if you’re gonna bring up MJ who has nothing to do with anything on this clip..🙄... Prince is the epitome of a talented creation.. Award Winning Singer, Songwriter, Musician, Actor, Director, Dancer, Producer, filmmaker, I mean have I left anything out..... Prince has so much music he left behind we will be getting new releases for decades to come....
I love Prince and Michael.
Halarious! ....
What's so hilarious?
@@starrcompany3275 the ROCKSTARNESS OF IT ALL... (I'm the one you asked the question of)
Wow, just think if u got to grow up during this time😃 because i did.
Clarence was wearing that 'fro - lol
And he looked good.
9:05 The "I love Prince! girl" needs her own piece, where is she now??!
I agree! I think her name is Virginia. She should give me a call!
😍💜
I seriously can;t watch anything with Clarence WilliamsIII in it without thinking of him bitch slapping Prince across the room.
Eddie!!!!!
Apollonia's dad looks angry haha "stop lookin' at my girl!!" haha
Overly protected dad
Maybe he'd already seen her purify herself in the waters of Lake Minnetonka
"Wood Beez (Pray Like Aretha Franklin)" by Scritti Politti.
at least, historical
His guitar had a wireless pack that was installed inside the back of his guitar.
dam
Dam what?
Great footage! can you make it HD?
Working on it!
@@TonyBlassHollywood Thanx. can you let me know when it's done?
she was hot
What the heck is Pee Wee saying #runonsentences 😂😂😂
I didn't know that he was there!
didn't know who he was at the time
He didn't deserve to be there. 😂
@tsangpogorge lmfao!
Apollonia and her dad was a little creepy.
It wasn't creepy. He looked very emotional like he hadn't seen her in a long time.
KTFxC Sorry, I thought it was a little creepy too.
U mean
Patricia Kotero...
Well there you go folks...a dad visibly in adoration of his daughter is totally fucking creepy. Shit, I Wish my daughter's father cared about her this much. Smh.
Not creppy just cute :)
uhmhmh ;-)herman lives "in character". I really believe that his voice is stuck up there by now.
bruno mars at 4.40
he wasn't even in his mama's belly yet
where is the MTV COVERAGE OF THIS EVENT- I'VE BEEN TRYING TO FIND IT FOREVER
MTV special is on the 20th Anniversary DVD for Purple Rain. Its a double DVD set and I believe its on the second DVD. It has interviews with Lisa & Wendy, Sheila E and Little Richard. Now that I am thinking about it I was pretty awesome! I can't believe it has been upload already to You Tube.
Relax...here it is! 😂 ruclips.net/video/bFT_chaq6VE/видео.html
Ok...now. I like this film a lot. Still do. Very good performances. Excellent guitar playing/singing.
Continuing on: guitar still isn't plugged in, even for show. Which is very odd. They don't show his right hand, which musicians REALLY care about, namely guitarists. They'll pay extra for "keyboard view" at piano concerts.
Reality in movie recording is that they put the sound in later. See Meryl Streep in Postcards from the Edge. So the real sound is kind of irrelevant. Just noticed the drummer's barely touching the drums...and NO drummer in ANY genre can resist a big, cymbal-flailing, pounding outro...those suckers MOVE, Jack. It does match the soundtrack, though...The Gene Krupa Story is a fun, interesting movie about Gene Krupa played by Sal Mineo. Who of course, had to actually play drums. The audio is Gene himself and 90% of it matches what you see with what you hear in the film. It's a valiant effort.
Just must have been hard to play so well when you can't HEAR any of it...
The special edition DVD of the has some of this same stuff - it has Eddie Murphy talkng to Goodman but then cuts out Morris Day who came right after him. LIke all of the extras on that edition, it was poorly done. HOw could they leave Morris out?
OMG he doesn't give a shit for his fans ! hahahahahaha awesome!
LOL true that
No, that's Morris Day
Yeah, he just cool, cool ain't nobody bad like him.
Was that little Elijah Wood with Lisa Hartman?
no that was her daughter
This is awesome. I'd love if you would check out my tribute video to Prince and let me know what you think! Hope you like it.thanks!
Apollonia and her dad was disturbing and girl at the end saying she love prince seem staged the whole thing was strange smh!!!!!
💯Yo Tony If U Still Doing Video's
Can U Please Direct My Movie
Get In Touch With Me🤘🏾
I would love to! Where are you located? Cool looking videos!!
Toledo Oh
@@purplerain222 no kidding! I was born and raise in Toledo and still have lots of family there.
Mark Goodman really sucked back then - just didnt realize how much since MTV was so new
the 80s...hahaha
LOVE how Prince made this movie rather than wait for MTV to air his videos. Yep...brit boy faux motown bands in heavy rotation rather than any Prince video. Racism rots from the inside out, you MTV louts. And one more time...culture club!
+Ethan Hill ...but MTV put "Little Red Corvette" and "1999" in heavy rotation in 1982 - two years before Purple Rain came out in 1984...jus sayin'...
EPIC 8:40
2:24 I got love for Prince but MJ would beg to differ. Thriller was the best selling album of 1984 so...........
Thriller came out in 1982 thou... And besides why compare they are clearly both talented in different ways
Olivia Roye the man who was speaking was obviously referring to mj.
who got a oscar grammy mtv video award and plenty amas? only prince and the beatles fucking god status
+jimi hdrix HAHAHAHAHAHA! Did Prince win Album of the Year? No he didn't.
+clue104 album of the year ? lmao probably sure he didn't care ..he was sitting on awards from almost every show and at that he did it by himself contributed by the revolutions but when doves cry was all him on everything by himself and it was no 1..on the other hand Madonna and mj only had to go in the studios and sing ..prince competing with producers and still getting hits and awards writing arranging playing instruments by himself only thats why album sells dont matter to me ..cause i knew how much and what prince did and i believe your fellow. mj knew to that'd why its a picture of him reading about prince purple rain success
Why didn't michael jackson show up too?
Lol he went to the private screening
Lmao these male hairstyles
That was the '90s for ya...I like it, though
We were doing thing back then, and big hair was in😄.
I thought the movie sucked. The music is incredible though
If u dont like Purple Rain how can u be a Prince.
@@kennethhouston7725 Too much unnecessary misogyny
I thought the music was nessesary because it made him a star.I think if he never came out with this movie he never would have as big as he was but i see your point. But there alot of good guitar playing in the movie and who can climb and jump off a piano like him nobody.
