Imma forever rock w/ _Sign o' the Times._ This is back when superstars existed. By the dawn of the 90's, labels cut all of that out. It was just waaay too expensive and fans wanted to feel closer to they favorite artists. Prince was *now you see me, now you don't* (floats away in a bubble). Fans wanted something more attainable.
Sheila E's walk is like poetry to me 😍 I also like how different Cat and Sheila E were, that made them very interesting to look at, aside from the more obvious reasons ;)
I remember me and my best friend traveling from Northern Minnesota to Minneapolis to see this at the Skyway Theater on Hennepin Avenue back in the day. Sheila E was one of my fave parts of the film.
Prince releases SOTT in March 1987 and announces the Black Album for a December 1987 release. Warner Brothers should have allowed him to release Crystal Ball as originally planned.
A great flashback to the concert movie of my fav Prince album. Nice to see some footage from this era. The chemistry they all had was magical. Love them all Shelia , Cat, Brooks... ect. I am not too sure about that. There who are old enough to have watched both their careers from the beginning have a more comprehensive perspective on that topic. Lets face it - Jackson did the same thing from thriller to the end of his life. Same great moves but the same moves. Prince was always doing something different - not as often as Jackson because he was a far more complete entertainer. He didn't have to dance as much as Jackson because he was playing the piano, guitar, bass and drums after he wrote and produced all of the music. All Jackson had to do was sing and come up with the floor routine.

But MJ just has way more all-time great songs, one of the best voices in the history of pop music (rivaled by only Freddy Mercury) and a singularly amazing dancer. Watching Michael Jackson perform in his prime is a euphoric experience perhaps (perhaps) only surpassed by James Brown. The body of work MJ did from childhood until thriller is unassailable and the amount of joy it continues to bring the world (in spite of the heinous stuff he might have down) is immeasurable.
