Put George Clinton and Funkadelic in there too,,, Just been listening to Maggot Brain.... Whole lot of BS! THAT is where Prince got his inspiration from Pure Prince 1971!!! Eddie Hazel and Michael Hampton! Prince as a Guitar God second only to Eddie Hazel imo...
Just gotta say that my parents never exposed me to the greatness of this man when I was a young due to their hate. Luckily I rebelled and got to experience the GOAT. He is easily the sexiest man ever.
I had the privilege of seeing Prince at a concert in Frankfurt in 1987, when the album "Sign o' the Times" had just been released. He opened the concert with exactly that song, which was playing on all the radio stations. I thought he must be megalomaniac, or genius, to choose that song as the opening song. After the concert I knew he was a genius! 😊
Always on point. The standard had to be maintained. Tommy Barbarella said that when he was a part of the NPG he never saw or heard Prince make a mistake on stage.
The showmanship and the affection he showed to the audience, his band mates, and of course to John. I pray that they added this version in the Sign O’ The Times Box Set. Can’t help but rewind to the part where he takes his foot off the pedal and cues on the note (the band is playing as one) and pointing to JOHN. Don’t see how it was humanly possible that he was on beat when the sound of the music he made with the pedal was still being created. I don’t know of anyone who could have time that and over compensate yet still be in synch.... insane‼️🐐🐐🐐🐐
Prince is the king, queen duchess, duke and the all of music. Absolutely incredibly fantastic like no other. Let's all bow down to the greatness he was. Miss ya forever prince.
Inhuman. God I miss this incredible being sharing this space and time. He made it look easy, but he was blowing away music's elite and making them take notes.
When I see videos like this, I'm still in utter disbelief, first by looking at Prince and then brother John back there. All I can do is just relieve a heavy sigh...
The ultimate performer. This was the night when Prince blew everyone away with his musicianship and showmanship performing alongside Tom Petty and & co in celebrating George Harrison.
The Greatest Performancer of All Time in History of Music...The Greatest Genius in Every Since ....He was the Reincarnation of the Highest Possible Quality of Music by Far Away from Artist formerly known as PRINCE!!!!!
I wish he was have released this version of the song. Tight, jazzy, funky, fresh and brings a whole different level to this already brilliant and deceptively simple song with incredible lyrics.
That's because he walked out onto that stage, stole the show, and put every single other guitarist to shame. That is not at all meant to put anyone else out there down but to just state what occurred. You have artists and musicians, and then you have another category all together, and we just call that Prince. You can really place him in a category with anyone else, and you can't really compare him with anyone else. No one before....or since...has come close to being whatever it was that Prince was. ...and not I'm not some super fan, I just tell the unvarnished truth.
Legend'iary I may think we never see anymore such a great Love One and engaged musician on this ceremony! Most of artist out there knows that Prince got balls like so many lost in the industry
I have had the pleasure of watching this greatness in concert. Then later at a pub. He loved to do impromptu concerts in the towns he had big arenas sold out. Loved watching him perform. True magic.
Super funky music. I saw a documentary on him and was impressed by his writing and playing, and also by the fact his band were very inclusive. Love, Peace & Equality.
Most of the audience were probably peers that were fuming that Prince rocked this joint way harder than they could have in a million years. He was the greatest ever!
Personally damn I usually think Creep at Coachella is an absolute all time favorite, so how can this be second, it's literally impossible to pick your favorite Prince performance. Purple Rain Super Bowl.. Gently Weeps same night as this one.. on and on
I LOVE her! Firstly, she's just a NASTY-ASS bass player! SO Funky! Secondly, she's SUPER-Sexy when she plays! She looks SO good when she's up on stage, funkin' it up! She's my favorite of Prince's bass players, and that's saying a lot, 'cause he's had so many!
ONE OF MY FAVOURITE SONG'S EVER BY PRINCE, WHEN THIS SONG CAME OUT... I WAS LISTENING TO PUNK & SKA / REGGAE AND BLUES, AND THIS SONG JUST BLEW ME AWAY...A GOOD COMMENTARY ON SOCIAL ISSUES...R.I.P. PRINCE # 🕊️🕊️☮️☯️🇺🇸🇬🇧🎸 A LEGEND 🌍🌏🌎❤️☮️ PEACE
This audience was mainly record company execs - the turkeys for whom Prince represented Christmas! Prince gave a spectacular performance with the best NPG ever here for posterity / future youtube, not for the stiffs in suits.
@Steve If you are going by simply by what was released in albums after Diamonds and Pearls (and that would be fair for any other artist) you are missing out on literally a juggernaut of material he never formally released, both before and after that period, much of it superior to his best known hits. His true fans will recall he had a saying in concert: "Y'all ain't ready for that" ... we had not idea how right he was.
@Steve "Musicology", "Art Official Age", "Emancipation". His chord changes and progressions were beautiful. I Had a New Found respect for Prince After I Learned of His charitable work and delved back into His catalog, And was pleasantly surprised.
Anyways for MJ. I got to see his award at his lawyers office. I had stood him up soo much. He knew i supported his every move as he supported mines. We never came face to face. He is missed. Anyone next lifetime can tell him.
Honestly, I think we all know that the R & R Hall of Fame really isn't where Prince belongs. An artist and self-taught musical virtuoso, dancer, performer, band leader, composer like that could fill an entire museum with his own work, and that's not in any way meant to be interpreted as flattery, that's nothing more than the stone-cold truth. Prince more than deserves to be there, but it's not really where he belongs.
She's very talented but Prince is a whole universe beyond merely very talented. I say this respectfully. Prince was mythologically great. Superhuman. You'd have to invent him in a comic book if he didn't exist in our lifetime. I remember one concert of his that boggled my mind. I was with a classical musician friend and we marveled that we couldn't find anything remotely close to a flaw in his performance of the whole concert.
There is Prince...........and everybody else.
😂!!!yes!!!
Prince had such a jazz musician’s attitude. He reinterpreted his songs in so many different ways. The horn line in this version is so funky.
I definitely agree!!!!! 🎵 🎶 🎵
There needs to be something way above the Hall of Fame for talent like Prince !
The Kingdom. A hall isn't enough.
True because now they just letting everybody in

Prince, one of the funkiest men to have ever lived!
The funkiest human ever! From now and into the future - love
Funkiest after James Brown and George Clinton.
Then he became a Jehovah's Witness

@Broughtworst that's because they're a cult.

If this guy was underrated for anything, it was his guitar solos.
totally agree...
One of the greatest guitarists EVER….if you need convincing listen to his solo on ‘While My Guitar Gently Weeps’…..he OWNS it
This is a great solo really jazzy.
He's not underrated at all as far as I can tell. It seems to me that many people rate His guitar playing highly. 🙂
❤❤❤❤ woww this is pure jam
This level of talent is gone forever. 💜😪
He look good. He ALWAYS looked good. Unique. Iconic. Legend. Heavily missed ❤💜
20 years later PRINCE YOU will N E V E R be forgotten
No one can duplicate or replicate THIS. Certain songs and styles are meant to be a certain way.
I had the privilege to see Prince in concert in Arnhem The Netherlands many years ago. Amazing, briljant ❤

Sad. It was magical.
Yes he was! He mos def had his own style...if u hve a ear for music you would know it
One of the greatest of all time. The 2009 Montreux with Prince is just incredible.
Beast
Reminds me of when Steve Gadd performed Aja.
I've worked at probably over 500 concerts. Prince is probably in my top 5 performers list.
Prince had that band on point that night!
Always on point. The standard had to be maintained. Tommy Barbarella said that when he was a part of the NPG he never saw or heard Prince make a mistake on stage.
The best live version ever! The groove, the band, the guitar solo, the arrangement!!!!!🎧🎧🙌🙌
Right? I’d only ever heard the studio version and I didn’t realize it was such a secret banger
Unbelievable ❤🎼🎤
Rest in peace to both Prince and John Blackwell.
Amém
He was a monster drummer with just right balances of power, groove, technique and feel. Way too soon......:(
John was amazing
R.I.P. John and Prince
Hold Up, John Blackwell Died.
His asimetrical suit is so cool.
The gun mic too. Big pimpin'.
This is the version he rocked on the Musicology Tour. Best arrangement I’ve heard. The bass, percussion, horns, vocals... shit was just tight.
💯‼️

SIR PAUL McCARTNEY
100% Agreed, anyone saying otherwise is dead wrong! Prince was, is and forever will be the most complete GOAT of all GOATs when it comes to music.
I wish he was have released this version of the song. Tight, jazzy, funky, fresh and brings a whole different level to this already brilliant and deceptively simple song with incredible lyrics.
His best recorded solo. Absolutely mind blowing. Gets overshadowed by the gently weeps soloing.

They were probably inundated with talent exuding on that stage. Maybe you're right. They were lethargic. But the applaus was grand.
