I was ten when this album came out. Prince is true royalty in my mind. I grew up listening to all of his music. "Purple Rain" is still one of my top favorite songs of all time! When I was 6 or 7, I actually watched the Purple Rain movie and saw the first "sexual" movie scene in my life. It was the Fourth of July and my parents were running around, trying to get me and my two older brothers along with a few friends together to leave to see the fireworks, so no one noticed me watching it! Every July 4th, we went to this place called "Fish and Games" to watch the fireworks show each year. It had a bunch of medium sized lakes where you could go boating, fishing, swimming , hunting , etc.. depending on the season. There was a designated area where there were a bunch of huge canvas tents set up with all types of activities going on during the day before it got dark. I remember our neighbor (the Dad) always throwing axes at these things that looked like large tree stumps that were cut and turned sideways… that was a LONG TIME AGO! Once it got dark, everyone laid out huge sheets and blankets to lay on to watch the fireworks. We used to run around and catch fireflies b/c there were thousands of them, as far as you could see! I remember it getting a little chilly once the sun went down… (we lived pretty close to one of the Great Lakes.) I MISS chilly nights, even in the summertime! I also miss chilly autumns with the leaves turning yellow, orange, red then brown! Our grass stays green and 95% of the trees in our area stay green throughout the fall and winter! It ALWAYS snowed up North on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, every single year! Well, my parents divorced after 20 yrs. of marriage when I was 12. My Mom remarried when I was 15 (my brothers were both in college) and we ended up moving about 2400 miles away with my stepdad, to where he was originally from. I went through MAJOR culture shock! It was 88°F on my first Christmas Day in Texas! There aren’t fireflies down here either… I think I’ve seen maybe two or three in the past 30 years and that was while visiting near San Antonio. Once I moved down here I had never gotten into the Christmas Spirit until I started having kids (I have 3). Down here in Southeastern Texas, the months of July, August and September are always disgustingly H☀️T! We went over six weeks this summer where it was over 100°F EVERY SINGLE DAY… It didn’t rain ONCE in that period of time or the following month either, which is unheard of here on the Gulf of Mexico, where I live!!! We USUALLY get a small summer shower DAILY that blows in off the Gulf in the early afternoon, in the summer. *RIGHT NOW, on October 27th, 2023, it is 85° here! The temperatures in the next month will go up and down from 92°F to maybe 79°… For some odd reason, in the area of Texas I live in, if we get a cool snap, it NEVER lasts for more than three days! If you look one week away from the first day of the cooler weather, it will always be like at least 10°F higher in temperature, IF NOT MORE! When it gets down to the low 70’s, everyone here starts wearing long sleeves, sweaters and even jackets! I used to laugh at all those people… but 30 years later, I tend to get chilly once it gets into the 60’s…🤭. I REALLY 🙏🏼 pray we don’t have another deep freeze and have temperatures that stay well below freezing here in Texas again this winter like we did a few years back! It stayed under 20°F for several days straight and also stayed way below freezing for another couple weeks. We, along with millions upon millions of other Texans, lost power for at least 2 weeks and others did for MUCH longer.. 😔 We were so lucky to only lose power for 2 weeks! Due to all of the ice from so much freezing rain which clung to EVERYTHING including power lines, poles, transformers, etc… it all totally crashed MANY power grids across Texas. Everyone had to boil all the water from their faucets (if their faucets even had water…) before drinking it or cooking with it! A large amount of people had ELECTRIC stoves, ovens, water heaters and heating systems, etc..!!! You can’t boil water if you don’t have a working stove! Some people didn’t have ANY water for weeks. Also, with no electricity you couldn’t drink or use the filtered water/ ice from your refrigerator. MANY, MANY people had their pipes burst! All of the homes here are built with every water pipe housed in the attic and they run across the top of the entire home, right ABOVE all of the ceilings! We can’t bury the pipes underground because we are at sea level and if you dig just two or three feet down, you hit water! We were SO BLESSED that we didn’t have ANY pipes burst! We know MANY people who lost just about everything and others who lost it all from their homes being flooded by their burst water pipes…😒 We could use and drink our faucet water after a few (4-5) days! Many others couldn’t for several weeks to a over a month longer. The water filtration plants were not working at all so you couldn’t even bathe/ shower in the water that came from your faucets. You also couldn’t put the water in your mouth so you had to use bottled/ boiled water to brush your teeth and rinse. We were so blessed to get clean faucet water back so quickly! 😇 Also, people with electric stoves had no way to boil their water! We used both of our gas grills to cook our food. One of my grills has two burners like you have in your home if you have gas. That REALLY HELPED! Honestly, we had SO MUCH bottled water that we didn’t need to boil our drinking water but did if we made food with faucet water. WOW, I’m SO SORRY for sending you a novel! 🤦🏻♀️ I really hope you have a great weekend and that you and your loved ones are staying happy and healthy! Love from Texas ♥️🤠🌴
I first heard this song in the Spring of 1987 when I was a graduate student. "SIGN O' THE TIMES" continues to speak to what the world is today. Prince was the Mozart of our time.

This is without a doubt, lyric for lyric, the best song prince ever wrote. This was the first pop song to make reference to the crack cocaine traumas of the reagan era and it was written in 1986; a year before it was released. A once a multi-generation artistic talent.
Prince, you were a GENIUS. Your music will never ever die and you'll live in it every time we play it - chapeau from a 26 year old fan of yours from Italy 💯
The birth of the lyrics video? Maybe, but definitely a masterpiece, in every way. The lyrics, that seem to define the sign of any time in America, and therefore still ring true. The visuals, with those ominous "time" letters sliding in the shadows. You can't now imagine how groundbrakind this was at a time when most of us hadn't yet used a word processor. And of course the music, perhaps the eeriest funky vibes in history, so befitting for the subject. Everything looks and sounds simple, but that's pure genius.
One of those songs that should be teached in musical education as an outstanding example of minimal songwriting when you have such a strong leading idea. It requiers some genius mind to realise that this song works exactly that way and that idea is so strong and not to clutter it with usual production techniques. Prince at his best.
This, Sign o' the times, is the song of the century. Not only voted as such by radio listeners in commercial magazine polls, but the story Prince wrote & sings of - this is America at that time & this is a deftly-captured series of both iconic actual events & speculative occurrences that we all know happened - maybe it wasn't your brother or September & June, but it was someone you know personally & they did go from abstainance to full-blown opiod addiction within months. If you don't know someone high on crack & toting a machine gun then you've real life seen them, wearing red or blue 'do rags. Prince Rogers Nelson used his breathtaking musical ability to describe America more accurately than Gauguin did Tahiti or Monet of his water gardens. His Sign o' the times is exactly that, America. While the song is an immense achievement, the subject matter is nothing to be proud of.
I still remember the first moment I heard this song from the radio in 1987. I was 14 yrs old then and really really shocked with this strange & beautiful funky sound. To an Asian boy , living in the countryside of Japan, this song was literally the sign of the times !

Still get goosebumps off of this song the lyrics are so real and live on today in society the song really hits home. Prince was a musical genius in his own right! One of my many favorites from him
I first listened to this when it came out. I also received my HIV diagnosis in1984, three years before the release of this prescient song. Utter genius from the purple one. He is above and beyond.
Even after 5 years....I'm still stunned. RIP Prince Roger Nelson. RIP Prince. Rest in Purple. "...some say a man ain't happy unless a man truly dies. Oh why?..." It's the sign of the times....
Heard this song as 16yr old in 1987, in Australia and played the the hell out if it. Now 47yrs old, the relevance of this song and "Prince" remains timeless.
This song didn’t get a lot of play on the radio. It’s a great song and stands the test of time. If they rereleased it today it would be a hit, no doubt.
Prince is still one of the best artists out there, producing so many different songs and did it the way he wanted. he didn't let the system run him. Prince will forever live on in our hearts and soul, rest in peace you beautiful human.
Isn't it AMAZING.... how a song can have a different meaning for an individual, at different stages of life? As a preteen, I liked this for it's rhythm; 35 years later.... the lyrics run SO DEEP and will be relevant for many more generations.
This has to be in his top 5 songs ever. I remember when it came out in 87. It still sounds relevant. The world is still a crazy place too, listen to the lyrics
Always trying to push himself musically is the sign (pun intended) of a unique artist who isn't afraid to expand his creativity and inspirations. Prince did that time and time again throughout his brilliant career.
Yep 👍🏽 Montpellier France…

Prince at his most sublime. The influence of that other talented Gemini, Curtis Mayfield is evident. At their very best, they were unbeatable. My one major regret is that I never got to see him play live. May they rest in peace.
Came up through the ranks with Prince as the soundtrack to my life! Another one we lost way too soon! Listening in 2022 post apocalyptic Britain and this is as relevant today as the first day I heard it!
I listened to this song growing up and just listened again and cried. With the beat I never really understood the reality of this song and how it affects those who understood it's significant!
this tune introduced me to the genius of Prince , these lyrics are more relevant than ever which is so sad but this song sounds like it could've been recorded yesterday which show it light years ahead of its time
I still remember the day that he played a lot of his songs for the first time. I grew up less than 3 blocks from Prince. Spent a ton of time at The 1st. I was even in the back of the room when they filmed Purple Rain. As a person he was a jerk. But as a Musician and Singer, literally 1 of the Best. I lived right off of Chicago and Portland in the later 80's. Gangster Disciple territory. The GD. That's what they called themselves in the 80's.

This song deserves way more views
Jack Howard Most of prince's songs have just now been able to be posted here... at least for now. He was real protective of his work... for good reason

Dis Song was a massive hit in Africa in 1987. That's 31yrs ago. Rest in Peace.
This song sounds like it could’ve been recorded yesterday, crazy that it’s over 30 years old. Thank you Prince for sharing your genius w the world
Prince owned the 80s !
One of the most profoundly reflective songs on contemporary culture I have ever heard. "Sign O' the Times" has not lost its impact and relevancy.
Still get goosebumps off of this song the lyrics are so real and live on today in society the song really hits home. Prince was a musical genius in his own right! One of my many favorites from him
Same! 💜
Way way ahead of his time......... SUPREME MUSICIAN!! 😎
Unfortunately it is still relevant. Yesterday, 8 years ago, I cried my heart out...Prince is and remains for me the best artist ever!
Prince being the GENIUS he was. Decades ahead of every artist in 80's!
Lorraine Rotundo, I totally agree with you, still listen to his music, such a talented guy.
The best decade
Great classic song, very prophetic back in the day.
Relevant then.
Relevant now.
Brilliant song.
This will be always relevant
I first listened to this when it came out. I also received my HIV diagnosis in1984, three years before the release of this prescient song. Utter genius from the purple one. He is above and beyond.
So glad you made it through. This song carries so much in it, and the first notes never fail to drop me like a rollercoaster 🎢
you are okay?
All ok now, Brother?
Prince was a hero in Minnesota. A fantastic musician, songwriter, & dancer. Gone Way Too Soon. F Fentanyl.
Even after 5 years....I'm still stunned. RIP Prince Roger Nelson. RIP Prince. Rest in Purple. "...some say a man ain't happy unless a man truly dies. Oh why?..." It's the sign of the times....

my fave Prince song BY FAR the lyrics are pure genius
Heard this song as 16yr old in 1987, in Australia and played the the hell out if it. Now 47yrs old, the relevance of this song and "Prince" remains timeless.
The guy had tremendous vision
SOTT is a ground breaking masterpiece. It truly showcases this genius of an artist at the height of his powers.
Agreed. An amazing array of styles performed, all performed magnificently. Absolute masterpiece.
My man 💜
This song didn’t get a lot of play on the radio. It’s a great song and stands the test of time. If they rereleased it today it would be a hit, no doubt.
Prince was a genius, who was way ahead of his time... Sadly missed.
Prince is still one of the best artists out there, producing so many different songs and did it the way he wanted. he didn't let the system run him. Prince will forever live on in our hearts and soul, rest in peace you beautiful human.
Its amazing how this song had a powerful message that still reverberates today! SMDH

Isn't it AMAZING.... how a song can have a different meaning for an individual, at different stages of life? As a preteen, I liked this for it's rhythm; 35 years later.... the lyrics run SO DEEP and will be relevant for many more generations.
PRINCE truly awakening people
He's very awakened Truth
"A Man ain't truly happy unless a Man truly dies.........."
How Profound?
This has to be in his top 5 songs ever. I remember when it came out in 87. It still sounds relevant. The world is still a crazy place too, listen to the lyrics
I so totally agree with you, one of his best ever, and remember when it came out, still have the album, and in great condition also.
It’s 2023 and this song still resonates. Prince was a genius.
Listen to the lyrics , and you will understand this mans music stood for something much bigger than his name
Yes
Prince was 30 years ahead of everyone else when this came out.. He's spelling it out 4u here... this is relevant today still!
he was just ripping off what punk rockers said 10 years earlier and they where ripping off old school country western
Luv4oneAnother 1999)
@@mattgreen3696 "ripping off" is a crass way to put it, but point taken. Prince still definitely has the look
People that far ahead of their time don't live very long for some reason.
Luv4oneAnother 1999 he did start
What a prophet!
Thanks always, and again, for your kindness Prince!!
I'm 22 and this song gives me chills Everytime I hear it 😩😮
That's okay.
I remember when this song came out.
It still gives me chills too...
JUST IMAGINE WHEN THIS WAS RELEASED IN 1987. You missed out.
Always trying to push himself musically is the sign (pun intended) of a unique artist who isn't afraid to expand his creativity and inspirations. Prince did that time and time again throughout his brilliant career.
Yep 👍🏽 Montpellier France…
he's a genius!!!

Amazing Amazing Amazing
Prince !! Just Amazing .......
He would never admit to being a genius
Just an artist doing his thing about explanation.... expressing it.
The lyrics were so real, they had to be the center of the video. Too bad theses words are still so true today. Let´s all continue working for a better world.
Prince was a natural born messenger, he was sent for a reason it was no coincidence he became a musician it was meant to be it was his destiny and his music is timeless, every generation loves Prince and his music, just an outstanding man that withstood the test of time😍😘😄🎉😉😇😜🎊🌺🎊😜😇😉🎉😄😘😍😘😍😘😍😘😘😘😘😘😘😘
Totally agree.
Sonya very well said... I'd be honored if some Prince fans would check out my acoustic piano & vocal covers of PURPLE RAIN and MONEY DON'T MATTER 2 NIGHT on my channel in tribute to the Master. Live acoustic with no autotune. Thanks and RESPECT to the genius of Prince.
I am wrecked. I am blessed that I work in nyc I met him
I think this same theory about John Lennon.
Brilliant:A Young BlackMan from the Suburbs of Minnesota:Alcohol-Reefer-Horse-after that Jail,Institutions or Death.SIGN O THE TIMES...😁😎✌🤘🖤💙luv ya byo eJ

Being locked down for the flu and forcibly injected is just the sign o the times.
A classic song! The more I listen to the song the more I fall in love with it! A Prince masterpiece!

Me
At this moment 7.27 😉, dreamt off Prince tonight, was awesome ❤
"Oh yeah!"🎶
Apsolutno💜♾️
❤❤❤❤Always will listen to this song ❤❤❤❤
Prince at his most sublime.
The influence of that other talented Gemini, Curtis Mayfield is
evident. At their very best, they were unbeatable.
My one major regret is that I never got to see him play live.
May they rest in peace.
This whole album was a masterpiece. It's like the Sergeant Pepper of his generation
Came up through the ranks with Prince as the soundtrack to my life! Another one we lost way too soon!
Listening in 2022 post apocalyptic Britain and this is as relevant today as the first day I heard it!
thanks to big pharma.
Prince is just another number of deaths that didnt have to happen thanks to these crazy strong and highly addictive pills.
One of the best tracks ever made.
I was never a hugh Prince fan, but I absolutely love this song.
Probably more pertinent now than it was back then.
Same here. I'm not a fan but there's no denying the brilliance of the lyrics and music. God help us all.
@@CMDR_Verm *i only rEAlly LOVE a hand full of Prince songs (but he wAs great) and he dEfinitely had his OWN sound*
How can anyone not be a fan of Prince?!😯
I listened to this song growing up and just listened again and cried. With the beat I never really understood the reality of this song and how it affects those who understood it's significant!
this tune introduced me to the genius of Prince , these lyrics are more relevant than ever which is so sad but this song sounds like it could've been recorded yesterday which show it light years ahead of its time
An absolute masterclass. It’s only when someone is gone that you realise what you lost. A true visionary.
Oh YEAH.
Every time this comes in the radio and my hair stands on end, I ask myself the question: “Is this the greatest song I have ever heard?”
How awesome was this guy, he was the Mozart of our time
Yes
I still remember the day that he played a lot of his songs for the first time. I grew up less than 3 blocks from Prince. Spent a ton of time at The 1st. I was even in the back of the room when they filmed Purple Rain.
As a person he was a jerk. But as a Musician and Singer, literally 1 of the Best. I lived right off of Chicago and Portland in the later 80's. Gangster Disciple territory. The GD. That's what they called themselves in the 80's.
