Evening Derek. Fantastic job. Pleased for you. As you say, not cheap, but what a great job the welder has done. As the saying goes..... U get what you paid for. Onwards & upwards. Hope you find the weep of water on the drivers side. Hope the interior clean went well. Stay safe. Stay healthy. Alan L200
Thanks Alan! Good to see you are doing well. Interior clean went okay, and the passenger carpet is back down now. Just as I thought, I could not find the screws . . . !
@@GrandadPunchy Not yet. Mad day at work. Hopefully get to have a look on Saturday, unless we pop over to Skipton to the market, and visit Mr Moo's on the way home . . .
Good on ya'. You did the right thing. You've been unlucky to own two Disco's with similar problems but, let's face it, every Disco has SOMETHING wrong that's going to need money spending to fix it. If you had a Disco which didn't need the bulkhead welding, it'd need the head-gasket doing, or the chassis welding, or the inner-wheelarches replacing, or the air-suspension replacing or whatever. I guess I'm biased but the Disco' 2 IS the most refined solid-axle vehicle LR ever built, which makes it the best LR around IMO. If we want to keep driving them, we have to be prepared to fix the problems that develop. To put it in perspective, a guy I work with has just bought a new Astra for something like £17k. He's going to be paying the thick end of £300 a month for the next 7 years. I can put aside less than half of that and know (hopefully) it'll pay for any repairs and servicing that my D2 needs - and I get to drive something that feels like an aircraft carrier! :-D
And handles like one too! Yup, I knew it would need welding sooner or later so we got it fixed now. The bulkhead seems to be the worst spot on this one. A bit like renovating a Series 1 !
Alreet pal. Many thanks for the shout out. Holy crap that welding is something else. I seem to recall my disco having similar rust areas at the bulkhead although not as bad as yours. I ended up paying about £500 quid for both sides doing. I should imagine yours was more than that but the quality of the work shows.👍
Necesitaba hacer.
Nice job Derek, that should see you out. The only rust I have found on mine was on the rear door, on one of the uprights for the window. I get nothing inside, even through a car wash, or heavy rain. We get so little rain here, although going into winter now, it has rained for the last few days. May not have anything of note for the next month.
Brilliant job on the welding, that bloke may want to think of doing that as a business.
Actually he does, and he's a fair mechanic too. I can give you his number but you would have to get to his workshop in Shipley, Bradford.
Some amazing work done on jugs! Top quality work

@@sleepycatpictures1176 Any luck tracking the weep on the driver's side?

It's nice to see a very tidy job as most just didn't care 👍👍
Makes a refreshing change!

The bulkhead is the worst part on mine. And thank you for your shout out! How's the alternator job going?

Good job im now on my d2 removed carpets seats found holes under window each side and roof leaked waiting for rain test lol
