Great video
Glad you enjoyed it.
I enjoyed your video on magnolia bark and I just ordered some...you look very relaxed but your presentation was smooth as silk...thanks.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks m’lady!
You are so welcome!
I found this after finding Gaia mmc restore supplement. It contains magnolia and few other components purposed for increasing gut motility..very greatfull for this information thank you
Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for this very informative video! I'd there a dosage you recommended to begin with?
Thank you for your question. It's always better to start low and dosage always depends on the person and condition being treated. Without knowing those things, a common low starting dosage in TCM is 3 grams.
DHH-B is the best version of Magnolia bark. works even better.
Thank you for your comment!
Do you have a source (where to buy) for that?
I’ve been scouring the internet about the properties of the seeds. Nothing so far. Do you have any info you could share possibly? Thanks!
In Eastern traditions, the seeds (M. officinalis) can be used to improve eyesight and treat fevers and headaches. The seeds are mildly toxic if eaten by humans but have similar properties to the other parts of the tree. They also don't taste good. Typically, it is the flower and bark that are used medicinally. The buds and roots are also used but less frequently. Great question, thank you.
@@WhiteRabbitInstituteofHealing when you say seeds, are you referring to the red fleshy “fruit” or the actual woody seed?
@White Rabbit Does this appertain to all magnolias or just Grandiflora also a how to prepare magnolia bark at home
We recommend sticking with Grandiflora. The bark can be prepared as a tea or tincture at home. Typical dosing for tea is 2 teaspoons of bark to a cup of water. Have fun adding other herbs such as cinnamon (another important immune and heart health supporting herb)
@@WhiteRabbitInstituteofHealingOk thanks for your prompt reply
can you take this with pueraria merifica, DIM, and rhubarb/Saffron, valerian root
and melatonin?
Dave, this is a wonderful and complex question. It is exactly the kind of question we feel is an inviation for one to visit their health care provider. For best results, it requires matching herbal selections to the particular person/condition instead of making selections based solely on herb function. This is a perfect opportunity for an in-person consultation to determine herb selection, dosage, etc.
I love that zebra drawing on the left! Took a while to figure what was where....
Yay, glad you like the image! I do too.
Is it addictive ? I’ve heard conflicting reports on Reddit I was also wondering can you take while on a SSRI?
Among its many compounds, Magnolia contains two especially potent compounds, magnolol and honokiol. There has been speculation that they might over time be an issue for vulnerable individuals or recreational drug misusers. However, at this time no peer-reviewed papers about magnolia causing addiction or dependence have yet to be identified. It remains a safe natural choice for supporting sleep, reducing anxiety, and more. Whether you are using other drugs or not, always follow recommended dosing, and always seek out the advice of an experienced health care provider to be sure you are using an herb correctly for your needs.
Can u use it along with an ssri?
Is there a special variety to use? I have a beautiful one in my front yard, is it likely to be helpful?
Tracy, thank you for your question. Here are the commonly used medicinal varieties, Western - Magnoliaceae acuminata, M. virginiana, M. grandiflora. Eastern - M. officinalis, M. liliiflora, M. denudata.
The combination of denudata and liliflora is called magnolia soulangeana. It is also edible and medicinal.
its hard to find. my dad has cancer and i want to buy it for him but i cant find any trusted resource supplement. any suggestions?
You can find suggestions on our website, www.whiterabbitinstituteofhealing.com/herbs/magnolia-tree. Best wishes to you and your dad!
Are there any side effects ? Does this interact with Pharma anti depressants and psychotics
Thank you, this is an important question. Anytime you are using pharmaceutical drugs, there is a potential for complications. You need to see your healthcare provider before adding anything new to your regime.
Hi my question is magnolia bark good for cataracts?.. thanks
Hi, magnolia seeds from M. officinalis have been used to help support general eye function and health. Neither the seeds nor the bark are used to specifically treat cataracts. Saffron, fennel, Cornus, Phellodendron, and peony are several herbs that are more typically used to treat cataracts. Visit our website to find out more about each of these herbs. www.whiterabbitinstituteofhealing.com/herbs/
I bought some in powder form mainly to reduce stress and help with my chronic insomnia. Is it water or fat soluable? Great video.
Fat soluble
Great question! The extract is soluble in alcohol and fatty oils, not water. The root and bark can be boiled in water to make tea or decoctions. Be Healthy!
Yeah, I should have read this before I tried lol 😆
I bought some magnolia bark powder but I have no idea how to use it. Do i just put some in a capsule or do you need to make an exteact?
Please help... I just moved into a new home and I have a magnolia tree in my backyard. I'm in Australia.

I purchased magnolia bark and received it but I have no idea how to use it. Do i just put it in a capsule or does it have to be made unto an extract?
It can be made in to capsules or extract or tea. 2 teaspoons of bark is a common dosage for making a tea, with Typical dosing 3-9g per day.Extract 200-400mg per day.
volume very low can hardly hear you even with sound turned to max
Thanks for letting us know, we'll look into it.
Is this the same with southern magnolia trees?
The key here is checking botanical names. Here's the botanical names of species recommended for medicinal purposes: Western - Magnoliaceae acuminata, M. virginiana, M. grandiflora. Eastern - M. officinalis, M. liliiflora, M. denudata.
@@WhiteRabbitInstituteofHealing oh, wow! Thank you so much!
Should I mix the powder in hot water or cold water
Thank you for your question. Use hot water to make your tea but drink it hot or cold.
@@WhiteRabbitInstituteofHealing Do you strain the powder out of the tea once it is brewed?
What specific species are you referring to ?
Magnolia bark is often used in TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine). The species typically used are Magnoliaceae officinalis, M. liliiflora, or M. denudata. In the West the species most commonly used are M. acuminata, M. virginiana, and M. grandiflora.
how do you take it?
Thank you for your comment! You can buy magnolia bark in loose form to make a tea or decoction. It is also available as an extract or in pill form. As there are multiple options available, check with your health care provider to determine what is best for you.
Where can i buy the best
Thank you for your comment. We offer some buying options on our website, www.whiterabbitinstituteofhealing.com/herbs/magnolia-tree.
can you take this with apigenin 50mcg???
Thanks, great question. There are cases of people who take apigenin in the morning and magnolia bark at night. However, the real question is, why are you wanting to combine them? For example, are you thinking your apigenin dose is too low or not effective? If this is the case, a higher dose or a different prescription, such as magnolia bark, may be appropriate. The general rule is you always want to be careful taking two substances that have similar functions. You definitely want to review this with your healthcare provider in further detail to be sure you are getting the solution that's right for you.
@@WhiteRabbitInstituteofHealing wow, thank you for the reply, I will go with a higher dose of apigenin.... 👍🏽
Hard to find pure 100% magnolia bark extract. Any suggestions?
Typically magnolia bark extracts do use 100% magnolia bark, unless otherwise stated. The compound honokiol may be limited to 98% as magnolia bark contains many other important compounds that also contribute to the plant's healing properties. Check out our website for some product options, www.whiterabbitinstituteofhealing.com/herbs/magnolia-tree.
@@WhiteRabbitInstituteofHealing I will, thanks!
Can we use magnolia trees grown in America or do we have to buy the bark from Asia?
The TCM varieties are most commonly used, Magnoliaceae officinalis, M. liliiflora, and M. denudata. The western variety M. virginiana has been used as a substitute for quinine in the treatment of malaria and to treat upper respiratory tract infections including colds and bronchitis. M. officinalis is especially known for its application in treating depression and anxiety. All varieties contain the key constituents magnolol and honokiol. You can buy the bark from any reputable source.
Is it safe for liver ?
Hi Helena - Used properly, yes. In fact, it has been shown among other attributes to be effective in treating non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).
Can I make tea on the bark of Magnolia grandiflora? And is it safe to consume if I have only one thyroid?
Excellent question! First, always check with your healthcare provider, especially since you have a preexisting condition. Everyone is different and has different needs and sensitivities. It is Magnolia officinalis bark that is used to make medicinal teas. Magnolia grandiflora is typically planted as an ornamental tree.
@@WhiteRabbitInstituteofHealing oh I made magnolia grandiflora from the bark I hope I don’t get poisoning.. I think you should be more detailed in sharing what is good since there are many varieties of plant
Does Magnolia bark contains Honokiol or they are too differents "roots"?
Magnolol and Honokiol are two key compounds found in all parts of the magnolia tree. Thanks for your quesion.
This answered my question 👍
Is the bark bitter or have a taste? Maybe I'll look for capsules.
Yes. The bark is bitter, acrid, and aromatic. You might prefer capsules! But it is worth trying it as a tea as well to see how that form works for you.
@@WhiteRabbitInstituteofHealing thank you!
How to make it? I have a huge southern magnolia in my yard
There are a variety of recipes you can find in our Healing Herb Health Session on magnolia, www.whiterabbitinstituteofhealing.com/herbs/magnolia-tree. A typical daily dose is 3-9g. Be sure to check with check with your healthcare provider especially if you are using other medications or herbs. Enjoy!

Thanks for your comment!
Can you boil the green leafs only and take it as a tea?
Hi Erica - Thanks for your question. The bark and the flowers are used to make teas. The leaves can be used similarly to bay leaves meaning you can use them as a flavoring agent in soups, for example, pulling them out before eating. They are not used to make a tea.
@@WhiteRabbitInstituteofHealing thank you for information.
@@WhiteRabbitInstituteofHealing which magnolia are you referring to though?
What are your thoughts on the claims that Magnolia Bark causes kidney failure on WebMD? I've seen several videos and no one has mentioned it.
Thanks for your question. Here’s what I can share:
There are to my knowledge only two references about magnolia bark causing serious issues. One linking it to possible renal problems. This was found to be an incorrect correlation, the problem was not caused by magnolia bark, but an entirely different herb.
The other case, was a report from Canada that indicated the bark contained a potentially harmful compound that could harm infants and children. As it turned out not only does the bark not contain the harmful substance but rather a potentially similar type of substance that is not only not the same, nor toxic, but is also so low in availability, that combined with the bioavailability of the many other compounds found in the plant it was determined to not cause the alleged toxicity issue. Essentially, it became clear it was a case of misquoting a study.
The references are both examples of misreporting that has been picked up and then passed in before the errors were corrected. Our research confirms magnolia bark is not directly connected to any known cases of renal failure.
Further, Magnolia bark has been used for thousands of years in Traditional Chinese Medicine without any reporting of such issues lending support to our trust in its safe use when used properly.
