Thanks for the heads-up on the Sortimo boxes. Were the boxes in this video Sortimo, or a cheaper brand? The Sortimo boxes are £38 each in the UK... a bit too expensive if I wanted to buy 10 of them.
Would love to get more information about the parts organizers. I tipped over one of my parts bins cabinets a couple weeks ago and decided I'd had enough of the traditional vertically stacked cabinets.
Thanks. Also thanks to Alex McClung who replied with a link to Gavin's blog post, which I can't find here (maybe deleted due to the link?). The Harbor Freight options don't look like they include any modular storage like the Tactix (whose website is "under construction") or Bosch solutions. I'll take a look in person, though.
The Harbor Freight ones DO have removable boxes inside just like those on this video, and they lock into the bottom and have the top grooves too. If that's what you mean by "modular storage"
The Tactix boxes are 100% identical to the Harbor Freight ones. Probably made in the same Chinese factory. That rack design is well proven, I bet thousands of people and maker spaces have built exactly the same thing at this point. I've seen them in a lot of pits at robotics events. Planning to build one myself this week.
"Solder only, No food!" on the SMD oven.. Looks like someone else worked out they make ideal pizza ovens! :) Edit: And the storage solution is neat. Might be worth looking into!
Brisbane has a few places. For a full hackerspace(Lots of equipment but pay). Google: HSBNE (Or 'brisbane hackerspace') Or for free, every Thursday evening/night at the State Library is 'Hack the Evening'. Google: "state library edge hack the evening" and come and play in the Fabrication Lab! We've got a 90W RayJet laser cutter! :)
Thanks for doing that tour Dave

Harbor Freight has a good US equivalent to those. As far as the rack, it's just a wood box with cleats glued to the side.

Dave, that's not Robby the robot it the Robot from Lost in Space!
Something seems weird with the video frame rate. It seemed rather choppy but I don't think it was due to the 25 to 30 fps conversion. IDK.
I wish there were something like that in Brisbane. How would they work out the cost of parts if members just head in and make stuff?
