The specs on that servo look like it may be the top one on the market. It was good to see he increased the center pin from 1.5mm to 2.mm and increased the thickness of that top gear. That's where every high-end servo I've had failed. It's definitely the largest stress point in the gear chain on impacts. I have a bluebird blsh50b that also has that 2mm center pin and a really large helical gear. I've never stripped the gear, but I had to order a bag of 2mm center pins to replace because it shears on big hits. But the pins are cheap and the gears are tough... I'm rambling. Great video. Put that servo through the ringer. I'd love to see it hold up on a basher.
Good running video ...good power and torque for the servo and motor combo....keep up the great work...I like my HH stuff..my favorite is still the Revolver I know its noisey it goes with the servo now...
I have the version 2 never had any problem it’s pretty fast and strong enough for my hip venture but I I’m going to buy it for my trx4 it has a great servo in it but I’m going to get that one 2!
I hate that whining noise with the radio/esc I only get that in my Traxxas vehicles. None of my Redcats make that whine & if they do ita so quiet you cant hear it. Thats one awesome servo tho I definitely need to try one out...
It has two wire harnesses. One jst plug for power from the battery(you have to solder the other half of jst on) and another harness that runs to receiver
It says in its advertisement/link that you must disconnect the battery from the ESC even if you have an on/off power switch or damage will occur to the servo. How the, WTF? That kills it for my TRX-4, Rustler, and Losi Tenacity. Otherwise, it looks like a great servo (I refuse to buy a servo that requires the added cost/complexity of a BEC).
With every servo I've run like this, with the external power source, when you turn the esc off but leave the battery plugged up, the servo can in some cases go full speed to the end of its travel and will sit there full stall, this is why you unplug the battery to turn off. In all honesty unplugging the battery is the best way regardless of the servo you're using. Forget the battery is plugged up and overnight you can completely kill a battery to 0v
@@ExocagedRC Is a BEC an external power source? I installed an easy/external ESC on/off switch on my TRX-4 so I didn't need to go through the drill of removing the body every time I shut down with the large 4000mah battery installed. Are these things so Gd finicky I need to disconnect the battery even if an ESC on/off switch is included?
@@proraptor4146 Since purchasing an Axial Capra and later a Losi Tenacity I now share the Capra's diminutive 1400mah battery with the TRX-4 and the 4000mah battery is now shared by the Losi and Rustler VXL (both suck it dry in 10 to 12 minutes). The 4000mah battery would go for 4 or more half-hour 'rock garden' crawls in the TRX-4 and that is why I installed the external lever that would turn off the ESC without the body's removal. These damn Lipos are powerful, but finicky and problematic bastards for sure.
@@proraptor4146 I've heard that turning the esc on after the battery is unplugged can extend the life of glitch busters, and the esc' bec. I practice this and have yet to have one fail. I run glitch busters on all of my rigs as a precaution. Mostly Bashers and 1 rock racer. Works for my projects and is very inexpensive $6-10 each
Well I’d have to go with the Raw500 because it’s plug and play, the Holmes requires a JST power source and is good to 3S so you’d have to get creative with wiring to make that work.
The power wire straight from the battery is the obvious feature, no bec required at all. Both are really fast and strong. Can’t go wrong with either one IMO.
I wished you had shown where the 'Power cord' plugged into. You digressed too much on all your other wiring and their applications but neglected to show how this servo runs straight off the 3s battery. All this wiring and electronics stuff is not innate to a novitiate.
SHV500 VS Reefs 500 - Servo showdown!
I want to see this one!
it was built by bob rocks the man with the world's longest screwdriver of course its reliable
My jaw literally dropped at the speed of that servo!! Wow!!!!!!!!
Solid was my first impression of it, when I got it today lol
I love the giggle after the near backflip. Because what do you say... lol.

Servo on BEAST MODE!! Just insane, a must have
The Superlite deserves a fantastic servo. It's proven itself worthy.
Cheers mate 👍

Holmes has your video up on his website a couple different time how cool is that
Thats always a nice thing!!
John put a lot of time and effort into that Servo, and it definitely shows!
Carmine ✈🚂🚙
I have only tested mine once since USTE holy smoke is it NICE should have gotten John to sign it for me
Excellent video my man! Nothing like an upgraded metal geared servo. I learned that on my Xmaxx day1 pack1. STAY UP bud!🔥🤜🤛🔥💯🔥
I would get some if they were ever in stock.
It looks like a kickass servo,I was always told you get what you pay for😎😎awesome video👍👍
Great video. Very impressed with the servo.
Mr. Beefy. I need one. Thanks for the video.
Would like to see the Holmes Hobbies v3 servo in it's new final home
I would have to take your word for it on cheap vs expensive servos. I have never used any servo that was more than $30 CDN.

Great video.👍🏻👍🏻 Thanks for sharing your info 👍🏻👍🏻💪🏻
This is always out of stock even when I'm notified when it's back i check and it's out of stock. Id love to try this 👍
They sold really quick but yeah keep checking in
Try supershafty
You sure know how to use wheelspeed! Nice servo and I want one
Reefs 555 or SHV500v3 what would your choice be?
SHV500v3

The camera picks it up and makes it worse in most cases.
I would like to see the install in the new home for servo
Let’s see it. Holmes stuff rules.
You should open it I wanna see the goodies
I just installed the protek 370 tbl in my sport thinking about making it a Bronco -ish is that body to top heavy? Should i stick with a truck body
You should put that servo in my truck 😂 think that would be cool😁🤙🏽😁
I'm going to have a sportish soon! Tribute truck to my brother who passed. I'll stop commenting on this video now. Haha.
just installed mine, installed, but i haven't taken it out yet.
Wow that motor esc combo is got some power what is it? I need it lol
LoL yeah it’s a nice motor. I’m sure it will be on the market soon.
@@ExocagedRC nice what esc is that the HW1080?
Sean P RC yep 1080
@@ExocagedRC thank you sir 👍🏻
I took your advice and picked a SHV500v3, I am running a 3S and a Hobbywing 1080 same as you, but I cannot get my servo to turn at all, any ideas?
Which survive longer under hard driving conditions till a year or two?
Is it a new style winch servo low profile flat design around the corner,i see it on the front of your truck
Thats a Gearkeeper I use for recovery, it works great and I have a video on it too.
Will this servo work on an xmaxx 8s?
With the adaptor it will fit but the jst power plug will cause issue unless you run a separate 3S battery for it.
Can this be used in conjunction with the Traxxas metal servo horn or do I need something else?
Works fine with the Traxxas metal servo.
How do hook up, can you do a how to wire for dummies lol.ik hooks direct to battery but how do wire signal in , is there a splitter sold with?
It has two wire harnesses. One jst plug for power from the battery(you have to solder the other half of jst on) and another harness that runs to receiver

That motor.....attaching device looked different.
It has an aftermarket motor mount. I forget which one it is.

Sounds like it was a little loud
HV Power comes with sound effects, lol
It doesn't make noise all the time. It just likes to talk a bit😁 Nothing like a savox
Buzzing sound is new to Holmes 🤔🤔🤔 I have V1 a V2 and they never make any sound
could be the motor controller? Not totally sure on that
Mine makes noise too. Also when rcreview did their testing it was noisy too
S D that is a step back... is like running a savox servo bruh 🤷🏻♂️
David it's not nearly as annoying as savox. And it doesn't do it all the time. It just talks to you a bit.
If you order one from Holmeshobbies.com I think you can ask them to quiet it down in the comments.
I wish they weren't so noisy though.
He updated the firmware so they are not as noisy as this one is.

The stock TRX4 ESC has a a wire with a JST connector on it. Plugs right into that.
