    Fun fact, originally the D Train ran via Brighton in Brooklyn, but when both legs of the Manhattan bridge reopened in 2004, they swapped the routes of the B and D trains with the B train going to Brighton Beach via Brighton Express and the D running via West End to Coney Island instead of running via Brighton

    Back in the day we traveled to my aunts house in Brooklyn. The D ran on the Culver Line back then. And my uncle picked us up in his car at Ditmas Ave; was a long ride from 174-175th St in the Bronx. My brother and I used to stand in the front car and look out the window”railfan” window. I realized a dream come true many, many years later as I was a conductor on the 6 train during the week and the 5 train on the weekends. When I lived on the West End in 1986-7, it was the B. At the time, the trip between 25th Ave & Dekalb took about an hour because the 4th Ave subway tracks were skeletonized. Crossing the bridge was also agonizingly slow because of the closure of the north side (everything was running via Bway). So nice to see it running as it should!

    Fun But Upsetting Fact: The Grand Concourse Line was originally supposed to be 4 tracks (evidence of this is the 4th track between 167th and 170th). However due to the IRT (they were building the 4 line), filing a lawsuit with the city, the IND was forced to cut it back to 3 tracks 😃

  • @anonymous3738
    @anonymous3738 4 месяца назад +3

    Originally, Norwood 205th St was not intended to be the northern terminus of the line and it was supposed to be extended further. Because of this, the station has no crew quarters whereas Bedford Park Blvd does, due to it being designed to allow local trains to short-turn and allow express trains to continue like IND’s other lines even though this one has a peak-direction express track, meaning trains in the other direction have to run local, which is evident by the track layout south of the station. This means whichever service running local terminates and reenters service at Bedford Park Blvd and whichever service running express in the peak direction runs until the terminus, 205th St. As a result, train crews change at the former station instead of the latter. Also, 205th St has no crossovers before the station and trains must turn around using the tail tracks after it. Finally, although unrelated to the above, the IND Concourse Line is both the only B Division line and the only fully-underground line in the Bronx.

    The D Train to The Bronx was quite a fast fun ride! The express ride between 59 Street-Columbus Circle to 125 Street-Harlem was great! Though Duke Ellington's Orchestra didn't play a song about the D, it's a cool alternative to the A if you're in a hurry to get to Harlem! One time, I did ride the D during non-rush hours and noticed it stopped at 161 Street Yankee Stadium. However, if you like the view coming out of the tunnel and seeing the ball yard, take the 4 Train. I took a friend on my travels, and he liked it. The D was good. but he preferred the 4 Train. The R-68 train in this video had good speed throughout the whole trip. I enjoyed the experience!!

    56:45 I love how the northbound express track kinks over to the right in order to drop down next to the southbound express track. You are then in the netherworld halfway between the northbound and southbound levels. It is just gorgeous, and I believe that this is the only place in the city that
    this happens in a station; am I correct ?
    57:04 Now the northbound and southbound express are next to each other again for the first time
    since just north of 59th St. Columbus Circle.
    57:08 Northbound drops to let the Northbound Local ride up over and on top of the Southbound
    Express track. That appears to be why the Southbound Express doesn't also drop like the
    Northbound Express does.
    57:17 Now, while the Northbound Express is at it's lowest, the Northbound Local crosses over
    it, and over to the right side.
    57:26 Voila ! A standard 4 track side-by-side arrangement again !
    I JUST LOVE THIS KIND OF STUFF ! I COULD EAT THIS STUFF UP !

      @musicforaarre 9 месяцев назад +1

      Correction. 57:08 The Northbound Local shifts to the right (east) and then rides on top of the Northbound (not Southbound) Express, before shifting again to the east to drop into position alongside the other 3 tracks. Aarre Peltomaa
