I'm just very lost from the loss of a friend and housemate who survived follicular thyroid cancer. It took the better part of two years to get her on tolerable synthetic thyroid hormones. The amounts she was put on very much clashed with her health and abilities. She gained about 100 lbs from inactivity and injuries she suffered in the course of about 13 months from constant dizziness and confusion. Kidney stones blocked her urethra from expelling urine and she went septic in March of 2023. About three whole months of in and out of the hospital. She went on oxygen for four months but her body wasn't processing it. On August 11th at 2 a.m. she died from acute hypoxic respiratory failure. I don't know why I'm reaching out for information. I was just curious if a thyroidectomy ever leads to massive weight gain. Thank you for anything you have to offer as far as information. I know my description was probably very vague and every single person's different. Anyways, I appreciate whatever you have to offer. Thank you very much for reading this.

Thank you for sharing. This is helpful. A thyroidectomy will cause weight gain because the thyroid hormone increases metabolism. During a thyroidectomy, the thyroid which produces thyroid hormone is no longer available. This causes a massive decrease in the body's thyroid hormone and a reduction in metabolism causing weight gain. Hope that helps with your curiosity. @@mattski1979
