Thank you once again for all of this fabulous information.I love buying flatware for 0.10-0.25 and selling it for $10+. My best flatware sale so far was a department store restaurant fork (Hutzler's). Sold it for $50.
That first one is what my family has always 60 years plus to serve cranberry at holidays. One niece loves the cranberry in the can, and serving with that spoon exactly the same size as a slice of canned cranberry. lol elevates the look a tad.
Imagine having such a fancy formal dinner that you'd need all the extra pieces. Think of how many platters with tomatoes, asparagus, lemons, etc there would be.....and how many dishes there would be to wash. My Mom set a formal table at Thanksgiving when the whole family came. Individual salt cellars, 3 glasses, 4 plates, etc. Luckily, she didnt trust any of us to help wash the "good" dishes and glasses, lol.
That wasn’t a tip! That was a bloomin’ finder’s fee! I would never have realized I had that embroidery hoop in my profit pile if you hadn’t mentioned them and spurred me to check!
I have a service for 8 Oneida Magic Moments from 1958. I also have many of the serving pieces and specialty pieces like the Demitasse and Ice Tea Spoons as well as the carving set. Should I sell individually or sets of 4 ?
The flatware piece types chart is really helpful. I have two complete sets which I believe are antique but cannot identify the pattern, their are similar but not identical. I have one newer tableware pattern that is still in the plastic wrapping from Faberware. It’s weighted but searches keep taking me to Oneida?
Is the Farberware stainless? Most of the Farberware flatware I've found is stainless. What does it mean that it's "weighted". Replacements has a different page for Farberware so I'm not sure why Oneida is coming up? Have you tried the Image search on replacements for the older sets?
@ still working on them. By weighted I mean the pieces are really heavy for flatware compared to what we have which is ten years old. The Faberware is stainless steel, the other set is silver plated but no markings, I’ve found similar so I’m in the right direction, I just cannot identify the pattern. My recent finds were at an estate sale last weekend: ECKO Floral Forged stainless with teak handles as well as the Faberware. All the flatware was $15. Got another Bakelite cake server at this sale.
ah makes sense if they're unmarked they'd be tricky to find. Make sure you have Farberware, not Faberware in your search. And yeah, I'd search the Farberware page on Replacements. :) Sounds like good stuff!
I bid on an online auction on a couple of lots of flatware. Unfortunately the lot i ended up winning wasnt the best. I suspect a lot of it its going in my husbands scrap metal bin. I did find a fine arts sterling crown princess fork which is really pretty and posted it. Replacements had it listed at 79. 95. There was a couple of cream and sugars that i couldnt get the tarnish off the inside but i posted them anyways. Priced quite cheap. I figured maybe they could be decor or something. I cant lose really as the lot was 6. I did see some other items posted that looked really bad. Will those every sell? Is there any point in listing? I know years ago i bought some earings made from old sterling but these dont even have any shine left?
Nice find on the sterling fork! Yes I guess sometimes people sell the damaged items...usually lotted up. Lots of different crafts people make. Of course sterling pieces can be sold for scrap.
Yes! Sometimes people say silverware here too. To me flatware is more generic - stainless, Sterling and silver plated. It’s FLATware as opposed to Hollowware - bowls, pitchers etc Here I feel “cutlery” is used more for knives only. Of course there’s lots of variations within the US
The little sugar tongs are also known as a sugar nip for serving cubed sugar at tea time.
love that term!
Love that check list! Gonna have to check it our for sure.

Fantastic! It's one of the best niches I think!

Grille is a barbecue. French. Spelled Grill in German.
i'll have to look for images. trying to picture eating with fancy forks right off a grille. thank you!
Thank you! Flatware is so interesting!
Isn’t it?? 💛
I love all the cool specific pieces of the older flatware sets!
Fun, right?

i love canned cranberry! lol That's perfect!
I love it! I too get needed out doing research on certain items! Thanks for the info!
it's super fun!
I've discovered the existence of those weird pieces some time ago and now have a collection🙂
aren't they fun?
If it’s out of stock on replacements you can definitely get more.
That's true. Although I think Replacements doesn't give a price in that case. But I'm happy to see them out of stock sometimes, lol

lol. Good thing!
I'm picturing a Downton Abbey type thing where you have "staff" to do such things. :)

Happy for you!

I'd probably go with sets of 4 or 8. May take awhile, just looking at how many are listed vs how many have sold.

@ oh for heavens sake, that makes so much sense. It’s too bad that Google to ask me what I meant???

Has anyone used a Dremel and Radial Bristle Discs to polish silverplate and take out scratches? I know you can use these on jewelry.
I used to know a flatware seller who would use a dremel...i think even on stainless...haven't tried it tho.
I’ve never heard of the term flatware is it an American term? Listening to find out
Omg it’s cutlery! I had no idea. Flatware is much easier to spell. I get to 51 and I’m still learning American English.
