    You should pull your rhubarb stalks out rather than cutting them. Lets the plant know to grow more stalks

    I pull my rhubarb stalks. Then I cut off the lower end and the leaf top and lay them under the plant to naturally compost. I have wonderful rhubarb 😊

    I covered my rhubarb with a big pot when it first started coming up, and it's just enormous now. Never have known what to do with it, so thank you for this!

    Thanks for giving the info about the rhubarb leaves. Knew people couldn’t eat them, but didn’t know they weren’t okay for chickens either.

      If they get a few in the garden they should be fine, but they shouldn't consume large amounts of them, it can cause liver damage in chickens.

    Rhubarb is one of my favorites. Jam, cookies, nut bread and crisp are enjoyed whenever we can. I freeze it for winter baking. There are a few varieties of rhubarb. We like the sweeter red rhubarb better than green.

    I LOVE IT... JUST AN FYI.... YOU SHOULD PULL THE STALKS NOT CUT... THE "BRAIN" OF THE PLANT IS IN THE ROOTS... AND WHEN YOU PULL IT KNOWS TO GROW ANOTHER IN ITS PLACE

    I know you keep bees so I thought I’d pass along a tip I was taught by my beekeeping
    mentor. People obviously can’t eat rhubarb leaves, but I was taught that you can put the leaves in your hive body, between the brood boxes and the supers. The bees will chew through them. Evidently it does not harm the bees but will make them poisonous to the varroa mites.
    And I’m going to try AGAIN to get my rhubarb established, I think we’ve been planting it in too much sun. Thanks for the great recipe!❤🇺🇸

      @@HomesteadCorner We lost all our bees two winters ago, caught a wild swarm last year and they are THRIVING! Hoping to split the hive as they seem to be really healthy little devils.❤️🇺🇸

    Is there a specific way to prepare the leaves for compost? I was told the leaves are not good for compost. Thanks for any answers!

    Hi Jinne, I have planted rhubarb here a couple of weeks ago. Someday I'll be making rhubarb everything. I bought some beef roasts and I plan on canning it, along with some bean and sausage soup and plain beans. I figure that I might as well run the pressure canner completely full.

    • @HomesteadCorner
      @HomesteadCorner  Месяц назад

      Awesome! I always add beans or even water to the canner to full it up. 💕🇺🇸

    You lost me at the rolled oats. Cannot eat fruit crisp nade with them. They have an explosive effect on me.
