This channel is to help give you ideas and spark your inspirational journey in a self sufficient lifestyle.
At 71, my problem is Number 1, thinking I have the energy, time, and strength to get it all done! I can, but it take a helluva lot longer than it ever did before.
😂😂at 73 yrs old, this old
Lady couldn't agree more. I just take one day at a time with a to-do list. Prioritize and pick 3 to try to get done. 😂 if not, tomorrow is another day.
I hear you, I have that same issue. I'm only 50, but my brain still thinks I'm 20. 🤣
I am but 51 and a bad heart. I want to do everything but quickly find I can not hardly walk fare much less any real work i wish I could do
Oh honey, I'm with ya! I'm 67 and I know what you mean!
72 and agree with you. I get aggravated I’ve always done most everything by myself. Still have to son thinks I’m crazy for prepping.
I’m always trying to take on more projects than I have energy. I keep thinking that I can do more… like I did 30-40 years ago. Time flies…..
Keeping your glasses or contacts up to date. Also, having spares.
During the winter I have a bag in my car that has boots, warm socks, long johns, sweatpants, sweatshirt, hat, gloves, scarf. I also make sure I have a flashlight and I keep a small phone charger in my purse. I keep blankets in the car year round.
Depending on where you live, a snow shovel couldn’t hurt to add to your car prep and a battery jump starter. Nice prep! Food, water, first aid and extra medications too. 😊
That’s great, Hypothermia is a seriously underestimated threat!
Any day can be a personal SHTF. Grandma got sick and passed away. The car needs expensive repairs. Work is slow and so the paycheck is low. Mom gets sick and rarely grocery shops. An accident or injury. Extreme weather. Even a bout of depression or overwhelm can hit you. During that time, your supplies are going downhill FAST. Then as prepared as you thought you were- YOU HAVE TO START OVER AGAIN...
Taking on too much, not enough water, larger food storage, review emergency plans (mental health), forgetting our animals, practice with foods,(spices), communication. (whats going on in the world) ignoring fitness, Letting home maintenance get lacking….. missed one…..mental trading for emergencies
My deal at this time is working through stored food as I replenish. So much organizational skill is involved in being prepared.
Good idea to have easy hard copies of recipes to make bean dishes, bean burgers, bean brownies, etc.
hard copies of everything
Smart!! Thanks.
Thanks, Jinne! I am DEFINITELY guilty of at least a couple of those. After 8+ years of watching prepping vids/ "prepping', one gets complacent...
A year or two ago, I watched an "Alaska Granny" vid, where she talked about keeping up with things like clothes-washing. It was a real wake-up call for me. I had always let washing accumulate for a couple of weeks (very small family) for "wash day" - whites, lights, darks, work-clothes, etc.
After watching the A.G. vid, I realized that, if something happened JUST BEFORE wash day - no electricity, high humidity/ heavy rain (so line drying difficult), super-cold temps, no water, my getting sick/ injured or other family emergency, etc., I/ we would have no clean sheets or undies - and none for however many days it would take to dry anything I/ others hand-washed (whilst we have indoor collapsible drying racks, we have no woodstove... YET).
I woke up, and now try to keep up much better. (I also bought all family members 2-3 packages of inner-wear basics, to ensure plenty of clean undergarments/ socks, etc.)
I've also let minor repairs slide - my thoughts - I can manage with "this", "until I get around to it...", or "until we can afford it...". Need to DEFINITELY catch up on that, as well as my organization skills. "Chaos of things", sadly happens quite easily for me...
I DO excel at one point, though - my animals eat better than I do. I always think of them FIRST, so I am definitely prepared for THAT for a time. However, I'd also have to lug water from the lake - uphill for blocks, and treat it, so... guess I should "get to" cleaning and filling those blue water storage containers I bought two years ago, and have done nothing with...
Thanks for your vids. BTW, you're looking really beautiful!
Have some good basic cookbooks! Can't count on online recipes!!!!!
Rotate, rotate, rotate!
I learned to cook from my mom. I taught my kids how to cook.
My biggest fear is having to bug out. We are pretty well armed, stocked and prepared at home, but my struggle is that I need a hip replacement and I don’t have medical insurance. I’m working on it!❤🇺🇸
Don’t stress about it too much! unless you live in a high risk area like a big city or live somewhere where there’s a lot of natural disasters the risk of having to bug out is relatively low. On top of that, unless there would be a huge scale EMP attack you could always use a vehicle to get to your bug out location. Try not to stress about the stuff you can’t control.
@@RedbeardPrepping Thank you! We do live in a very rural area, and for that matter, we do have some vehicles old enough (1958) that might not even be affected by an EMP. And you are SO right, we need to be prepared for what we can and let go at a certain point when it comes to things beyond our control.
It's hatd sometimes to keep momentum going. I am starting to go to bed earlier and getting up earlier to beat the heat
Thanks! This is a great list.❤
I do practice with foods, but that is my number one mistake. I used to just make all the box foods from the store and never learned how to cook. Now, I am trying to learn. It is so much easier than I ever thought and it takes about the same amount of time too. Over the past couple of weeks, I have been practicing one thing and that is tortillas. I was just using the previous not so perfect batches for my lunches because they would fall apart or whatever. Today, I made some and used them to make enchiladas and they worked perfectly and tasted great. I have been having a harder time finding tortillas and wraps in the store that are carb balance and my dad is diabetic so he has to have that kind. I decided that I need to figure out how to make them because we eat them quite a bit and I will be able to make them with einkorn flour so that they won't hurt my dad's diabetes. I am really happy that I have accomplished this one thing because for us it will be a big game changer.
I appreciate you and your channel so much, thank you for being here ❤
These are great examples of preparedness ideas. I have suggested all of these as well. Here in our area, we have experienced almost every SHTF situation you can imagine, just in the month of May alone. Power outages thar affected our grocery stores, banks, pharmacies and gas stations. We should try to fill prescriptions even when we don't need them, just to have them if there is a disruption in service. Have cash. Have some cans of extra gasoline and test your preps. I purchased so many preps in 2020 that I never tried to use. Get preparedness books because we may not always have access to the internet (gardening, canning, recipes etc)
💯EXACTLY!
If you don't have a printer , go to the library and see if they do ours charges ,15 cents a page you can print several recipes, out and put in a binder. Check local thrift stores, or Habitat for Humanity, usually has lots of books on just about anything for .50 cents up to $1.50 , I found a nice canning book for $1.00 a friend is reading it to learn how to pressure can foods. ❤
Hmmmm .. how about medications 🤔 (no pharmacy, no scripts) .. we are 77 & 81 (reasonably healthy) and both on heart meds (low doses) .. I am researching the best books for herbal medications for pain & high blood pressure .. I think I will dedicate the flower bed along the back of our house to herbal supplements instead of marigolds ☺
Rosemary Gladstar Medicinal Herbs, is a great book, I ordered mine from Target online 2 years ago check to see if they still have them , it was $14.95 , and I have looked for years for it at all different thrift store's , never found one in the wild, it's a beautifully colored and real pictures of the herbs too. Another source is the Herb Quarterly, at major bookstore, like Barnes and Noble they were $5.99 in 2022, not sure if they have gone up in price, I just buy the one's that I need information on. 😊
@@AC-qi9wo Thank you so much for this .. I am on the hunt ☺
@@AC-qi9wo Actually, I just found it on Amazon .. paperback $12.41 w/tax .. thanks so much for the info .. I have a tower ready to plant 👍
My only wish is that I could stockpile my insulin.
Regarding food storage, the majority of us eat more than we need currently. Look into the British WWII rationing diet. It would give you a better idea of how to use your preps and as a plus, your diet will probably improve with the elimination of junk food and prepared items!
Very true. I got all my WWII cookbooks second hand online. Invaluable.
Great list, there are a couple things I’d add to your list.
#1 Is having low quality gear. I understand times are tough for a lot of people right now but there is usually a happy medium in terms of getting good quality gear for a good value. I’ve seen some channels promoting the cheapest Temu gear money can buy and I think it’s a big mistake. It dosent need to be high-end, but decent. Buy once cry once.
#2 Is having the gear, and not the skills to use the gear. You can have all the gear in the world and if you don’t know how to use it, it doesn’t matter one bit.
Great video and
Happy prepping!
I really needed to hear this! Number one is a huge problem for me...Widowed and trying to keep up with everything on my own overwhelms me sometimes and I need to learn to pace myself and/or ask for help so I don't get to the "overwhelmed" point...My sister is a big source of inspiration but unfortunately she lives far away.
Excellent advice, as always Jinne. 👍 Definitely learn to Cook now, not when Shizz Fizzes, you'll waste precious ingredients.
& I'm only here because I thought you were Superwoman. Lol. 😊
TFS HC, take care & keep really busy everyone. ❤️🙂🐶
I could not agree more with you , we do need to keep up with everything , THANK YOU JINNE
I find it amazing that people no longer value Basic Cooking and Baking Skills !!!.......... just with prices the way they are alone you would think they would try , I make it a point to keep my pantry well supplied in food Staples and my freezer in an array of meats......canning and Dehydrating are easy tasks...... baking in your home oven or in a Cast Iron Dutch oven over coals is also a must !!!........ wonder what these people are going to do when the situation arises and the microwave doesnt work and the grocery stores are closed ......... Taco Bell isnt gonna be an option !!
Overwhelmed when I think about it too hard! Helps to look at what we've accomplished. Love your videos, long-time sub!
Thanks, 😊❤
Great video...God bless you and yours
Storing enough water even for short term is an issue. We rotate out and replace. Limits on how many 40 packs you can buy. We do not eat out or buy premade meals except for a frozen pizza on sale.
Love your channel and all your share here, thanks! These are all great points, and I think #3 and #9 will make the biggest difference within a very short period of time after SHTF.
Yes! Maintenance! That includes preventative maintenance and spare parts Don't expect that generator or water pump will work if it has sat there for a year or longer with old fuel and dead battery. I am so guilty of this! But I have too much equipment. Batteries and tires are expensive with relatively short lifespans (to include cans of fuel you aren't rotating, etc).
God Bless
Raining here in Texas also
Wonderful points! Thank you.!!!
You had me at "still practicing our firearms"
Thanks Jinne, that's just the push i needed to make a dental appointment, that i have been putting off for too long!
Great reminder list!!
Thank you Jinne for keeping us on track for the future. I've been busy but much to do still. ❤
Great ideas to keep up the Laundry, keeping medical checkups current and
Keep the home organized, and in good working order. Organization is key in a stressful situation. Or, to have to go searching for an item at a time when you can barely think.
Thanks friend. We have been under the weather ❤
The biggest mistake I see being made is that, although there can be times when your home might be rendered uninhabitable, people are too quick to think of bugging out instead of considering how much more safe it is to try to stay put with all your preps, walls and a roof, away from bad and just plain desperate people out there.
Good video. Thanks for your list and the work you put into teaching/encouraging/nudging us into action.
Thanks Jinne
You are on top of all these things I have fallen short on a lot of these items. Thank you so very much for this video one of the most helpful I have heard. Thank you 🙏🏼🥰🤗
Great advice 👍 thank you
Keep track of how long soap, toothpaste ect last so you can figure out how much to buy for 1 year, I have at least 6 bags of those plackers toothpick's to help keep your teeth clean and fresher breath. My daughter, bought me some of those foam soaps from Bath and body works, well I took a bottle I kept and put enough of the saop up to the word Bath, with the soap and filled it up the soap still foams, and the smell, is still strong smelling, so each bottle should last me at least 5 times each. 😊
great ideas thank you
Will you please share your recipe for dog food? And if you have a recipe for cat food, please share that, too!
Where I am considering relocating, and living is where I would have more than enough water, and I will be using a water filtration system. Where you are water could be a problem, but where I want to go, and live well the scenery would be much different than where you are. For me if my water somehow runs out then this will not be a bad problem, for only me. I believe it would also become a problem, for you, and everyone who you know, and heard of, and love.
I have already made a selection of where I want to live, and I am still working on the legal paperwork. I am also looking at out of my country to see if there are any good properties, for me to live on, but I found nothing yet!
Filtering water is 1 out of many different activities I will be doing once I relocate! I am still trying to learn how to grow food, and I have done fishing.
The list is lengthy, for the amount of activities that I will eventually be doing.
Good video, thanks for sharing YAH bless !
Excellent tips. Thank you!
You are the best!
I need to take an inventory of both food and cleaning supplies. I seem to purchase the same things resulting in lots of some things and very few of others!
My #1 prepper mistake was UNDERESTIMATING the destruction Mice can really do.
Field mice got into my preps and I found out real quick that the little buggers can/do eat into plastic.
I lost corn syrup, syrup, peanut butter, jelly, oil, anything in cardboard cartons, pretty much anything in plastic jars.
I see videos on here that show pristine pantries but just a few actually talk about the “M” word.
I hate when people think “I never get mice in my pantry”.
It happens people, it happens!
Thanks again for the information.
This is a great message! I wonder why the video is jumpy/ glitchy?
Not on my end, playing great
Thank you so much!
If grid down 😮 build a fire or propane grill
Hi. I know how to cook. Can you show how to cook dried beans if the grid is down? I always brought can beans. I know you have to soak dry bean overnight.
