We homeschool year round as well, 4 days a week and LOVE it! We have also been able to skip the first 20 lessons or so in our curriculum because it is built in review for students who have a standard school schedule. We just quiz them until we get to a part they dont know and start there. : )

We do more year round schooling...but take off about 6 weeks in the summer. The hardest thing for me is that really everything we do is learning of some sort...so I feel like I could count it all, yet the public schooler from my past in me only thinks I should count sit down work. :-) I don't know why it's such an internal battle.

We homeschool here in Indiana. We have to get in 180 days from July 1st to June 30th. I break down those days over the course of the year and yes we homeschool year around. I try to follow a sabbath schedule, where we school for 6 weeks and take the 7th week off. I love how you broke down the courses for each semester so you can see where you need to pick up slack. This is my second year homeschooling so we are still trying to figure out our routine. Blessings, I am so glad I found your channel as well.

I might add that we do 5 days a week but my children are usually begging to do it 7 days a week. We do hands on life skills learning every day which I try to explain to them is still school. :)

As a fascinated viewer from Switzerland I have a couple of questions:
    - do all the kids have the same amount of lessons per day or do you vary according to their age?
    - how do you know how your kids are doing compared to what would be expected from them in public schools?
    - do you need some kind of permit/skills to homeschool?
I would loved to learn the way you teach your kids! In Switzerland public schools are year round as well, the longest vacation is five weeks in the summer. Love to see more of homeschooling on this channel!

Thank you sooooo much for your videos! I am new to homeschooling and your insight has made it feel like a fun new chapter in our lives rather than a scary world I know nothing about. I didn't plan on homeschooling. My son has Sensory Processing Disorder and was unable to handle the kindergarten classroom so I decided to take him out of traditional school. We just finished our first week at home. Honestly, he has been leading the way and taking me through what a school day is while I wait at the door for the curriculum I ordered to arrive haha. But honestly, I can already feel how rewarding homeschooling is going to be and I am so excited for this journey. Thank you for giving a glimpse into your world and how you get it all done. I truly appreciate it so much!

I home schooled for 8 years. EVERY year was a little different. I loved the years that we did more unit studies and less curriculum. We did so much more hands on learning, reading books and writing about them. If I had it to do all over again I would probably lean more towards the unschooling way of doing things. Focus more on learning from life than using curriculum and making kids sit and be still for an hour at a time. If I had a penny for every time I encouraged a child to "stay focused" or "are you getting your work done or are you looking out the window?" I would be wealthy. One FUN thing we did on our 5th day was go to the park. We would take a book, pillow and blanket and lay under the trees and read. We talked about what we each were reading and it gave me time to read my own book. Having a paper book you are reading is a wonderful example to set for kids.

Yay for year round homeschooling! Its great I love it and work well for our family. Love your idea of writing out how many lessons and then crossing them off as you go! I do this but a little differently. I copy or type out the table of contents for all the curriculum we use and as we complete it I write the date and highlight it. I make a binder or have it spiral bond for each kid along with a reading log in the back. I don't schedule anything anymore after 5 years of homeschooling I have found I'm an over scheduler and set us up to fail or fall behind every time i plan it out. So now I just keep an idea of how many lessons we need to do in a week and try to reach it but if not oh well; we just pick up where we left off. Simple is what our family needs and I learned it the hard way. We don't really have a set number of days a week we homeschool we just go with the flow of what's going on in life. So weeks we might do 2 days and some we might do 6 days. I made a simple way of keeping the flow going. I use a binder ring and write on a note card each things that needs to be done independently on white cards and with mom on pick and as a family on purple along with breakfast, lunch and chore mixed in between. It seems to work really well and its simple for us especially me. No more spending 30 minutes before bed every night writing out what they need to do everyday. And anything that is on a loop make them all the same color and move the one we completed that day to the back of its color stack on I always know what we're on the next day. No stress and no worries or extra brain space waisted! Thanks for sharing and I hope this is helpful to anyone who read comments! Have a God Blessed day!!

These are the types of videos I'd love to see on this channel:
Hands-on activities that you do beyond book work
    Record keeping
Testing: What tests do you do? How and when do you schedule them?
What are your philosophies of education?
What "style" of homeschooling do you align with the most?
How did you come up with the school name?
If you homeschool through high school, how do you ensure that the child gets sufficient credits to be able to get their diploma?
What does your Bible time look like?
Do you ever feel like your kids are bored being in their home all day?
What factors do you look at when you decide if one of your kids goes to regular school or is homeschooled that year?
Maybe this will give you some video ideas. 😉 I LOVE your channels! I live in NC, and I'm considering homeschooling.

We do year round homeschooling too. I absolutely love the fact that my children learn so much better when they don’t have huge breaks. We live in Arizona do schooling during our hot summer months just makes more sense then giving them months off that they can’t really do much. So we take off from about the middle of December to the middle of January this gives us time to enjoy the cool weather and do lots of walks outside enjoy park time more and do lots of fun crafts and activities outside. We also do a four day schedule and it’s so nice to know we have that extra day for projects games and other fun schooling stuff. Loved the video keep them coming 👍

We do actual ciriculum as a standard school year, for the most part. But I like taking a week off at thanksgiving and 2 off at Christmas. We have to travel to see family (about 19 hour drive) so we take the entire time off to spend with family. However, I do a lot of arts and craft educational things during the summer, and I recently got my 6 year old INTO READING! I could not be more overjoyed that he's finally enjoying it, so that has been a huge blessing for us!

I think I’m going to write all our lessons down and mark them down as we go. Thanks for sharing that tip! I always start off the year with so many great projects planned, but I never feel like I get even half of them done. I think I’ll write all those down too so I can better visualize what I’m actually accomplishing. Great video!

We do a lot of gardening and canning so I tend to start slow during late August and then start picking it up more when the garden is done producing. We typically do 4 days a week unless we know that something is coming then we do 5 to try and get ahead a little if that makes sense.
We never totally stop during the summer because life is learning, we just change more more ‘life’ things. Like tieing shoe laces and chores and gardening etc.
I am excited to see your room tour. We’re moving in about a month and will have a better spot for all my homeschool things

We started in July and are doing year round this year, 5 days a week. We are a military family and at the end of the year we are moving across the country to a new base. When we move my husband is using all his saved up days to take 45 days off to spend the holidays with family and look for a house. Luckily our new base is only a few hours from our family! We are also expecting a new baby in February so I'm sure we will be taking a few weeks off then!

We homeschool year round too! Start in July. We do breaks as we need and take all December off. This year we are expecting a baby so we will crunch time each month and then take December, January off. Love that we can be flexible, but still learn even on "days off". We also applied the loop system this week! So great! Thanks for sharing that idea. It will help take away any guilt of not completing work on our weekly schedule and stress overral. Now we get more quality content over quantity rush rush rush. Also will help avoid burn outs.

We school year around. We feel that the retention is important too. We also felt like it was a more natural flow to real life. We also have found that summer is a good time for us to school because it is so hot here in AZ (today it will be 115). We like to stay inside so why not get some lessons in while we beat the heat.

My girls are about to be a senior in highschool & freshman in college. When I traditionally homeschooled them, we did not do year 'round as we wanted a bigger summer break, but we did 4 days a week (a lot of curricula we used was set up for 4 days of book work), and left Fridays for field trips, homeschool group, play dates, etc.... We also took vacations at times when not everyone else did and that was awesome! Disney in Oct is GREAT!! My hubby travels a lot, so allowed us to accompany him to some places we might not have otherwise been able to visit, and yes, so many opportunities for learning "in the field". Wouldn't trade our years homeschooling (7 yrs) & then hybrid schooling (last 3-4 yrs) for the world. We parents are the primary educators for our children. Good job, and hope you have a great first year of homeschooling FIVE!! 😳🙏😁God bless you mama Angela!! 💪🏼😊

We are year round homeschoolers as well(ish). We ended May 18th and we started back July 9th with math and language arts, but we do a co-op with friends for science and history so we are picking that up in the fall. Until then we are doing various nature studies and interest led learning. The fall is also when we will add in the rest of our subjects.
I found this year that our 7 week break was way too long and my kids forgot simple math concepts that they had learned last school year. So now we are reviewing math. In the past we’ve continued math and language arts through the summer so I already feel like we are behind. But we will plug along until we take a week off for the beach, then jump into all our other subjects.
Then we roughly do a 6 week on, 1 week off schedule- except for between Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years. I love the flexibility that homeschooling provides and so excited to see your journey this year with 5!

I belong to the year round phylosophy and might do the 4day a week thing. 180days is the standard if you do four days a week work twelve week term take a week off then go back its about the same. Very young children yet. I have childcraft book set and I am setting up a system with that to do one listen a day. Rotating through different subjects with a focus on holidays and birthday volume "calander" I am working on deciding how to organize. We will increase complexity as the children approach school age and will actually be doing school.

Some co-ops are super laid back and just do events/field trips together, while others are more academic- getting together to do classes together. We attend an academic co-op. Once a week for two different semesters around 30 families get together and basically have school!! It's great! So many great relationships and so many greats resources!! It's been invaluable to our family!

We have 5 kids, ages 16, 12, 3, 2, and almost 4 months. The oldest two homeschool, using an online curriculum. We also do year round homeschooling, 4 days a week generally. Depending on what appointments we have each week, sometimes more, sometimes less. We plan on homeschooling the youngest three also, when they’re ready. I plan on making my own curriculum with them, so that’ll be interesting and full of fails, I’m sure. I love following your family!

We homeschool year round and 5 days/week. For the same reasons: we vacation when we want and we also take a day or two off throughout the year for different reasons. Rather than having a “makeup” day, it all just balances out. We love it and have been keeping a pretty quick pace curriculum wise. Though we are starting My Father’s World in September and that definitely has more scheduled curriculum than I had been incorporating myself.

This year and the past 3 years (starting 4th homeschool year)..we have started the 1st full week in August and every 6-8 weeks or so we take a week or two off. We school for 5 days a week. But our Fridays are our fun days (field trips, activities) But our next school year we will be transitioning into year round!

I would love to see what your binder looks like! This is our second year homeschooling, and I have struggled to find a good binder system for planning that actually works for me. I tend to be a free spirit too and schedules are not my thing at all.

My dad is a public school Spanish teacher, so we always did kind of a hybrid calendar. We would have a traditional summer break, but we did school five days a week and any days that he had in-services, but then we would usually take a fall break and other long weekends here and there. I was also an only child, so it was easier for us to be flexible :)
On a side note - I love your haircut! And I would love to see a tutorial on how you did your makeup over on your other channel, it's super cute!

I have no kids, but I love your family channel and I’m fascinated that you can home school, it’s not something that is really big in my country and I think the few that do are more restricted in what/when they have to do it (though I could be wrong!). I just love your family, your attitude and outlook and it makes me smile to watch your channels so of course I had to also subscribe to this one despite not having kids! 😁

Hi! I homeschool 5 days a week BUT one day is entirely devoted to our Co-Op. So, kinda 4 days a week. I am schooling a 4 and 6 year old with a tagging along toddler. This is our second year homeschooling and our first year trying to school year round. We did a few review lessons last summer that seemed to work well for my eldest and helping her to remember what we learned. So, now I am hoping to do three days of school each week this Summer. I mainly focus on Math, reading and writing at this stage so scheduling has not been complex for me, yet. But, your video was encouraging thanks!

We totally do this too, even though we technically homeschool through a charter. I love to have time off when we want and have time to do home projects when we need it.

We homeschool year round and I cannot imagine taking 3 months off now. We all wouldn't do well :) We do 6 weeks on and 1 week off - a little more in December. I would love to see your planner and lesson checklists or a visual of where you keep the lessons broken down. I guess where do you check off each lesson completed? LOOOOOOOVE your new channel!

This will be our first year on a year-round schedule for a few reasons, most of what you already listed. You mentioned retention, which was a big reason for me, but also... Trying to stick to something close to what the public schools are using resulted in a lot of burn out for both me and my daughter, so the shorter blocks of homeschooling with a nice week or two in between to reset ourselves has really been nice. Right now, we're using a five-day week, but I might transition us to four. With me only needing 160-180 days to cover materials, I currently have more and longer breaks than I'd like, and I think switching to four days would not only give us a more relaxed week but would also space out my school year a little better.

We started last year pretty much following the schools in our area, but we started back this week which is sooner than the schools in our area and I plan to be able to take a longer Christmas break and a shorter summer next year. I found this summer was too long and they needed lots of refreshers. So I guess I’m leaning more toward year round 😊

I am hoping to homeschool and I plan to do it year round. We are Jewish so holidays pop up all the time and sometimes frequently so it makes sense to be able to take a nice big break for Passover and during the fall holidays.

Very similar to how I plan. I’m a type B with perfectionist tendencies 🤦‍♀️so I can’t do tradition lesson plans. Instead I make checklists. I take some time before our school year starts, binge watch RUclips videos, and type out lists of the lessons for each resource we’re going to use in a Google doc. Print those out and put them in my homeschool mom binder. Then we just “do the next thing” and cross off as we go. Helps me know where we’re at and what we need to do next without the stress and failure of detailed lesson plans.

FIRST OFF- You're beautiful. jeeze louise.
Second- You, my friend, are such a Rockstar. I'm a pretty darn organized person with my 4 kids, one having a learning disability, but thinking of taking on homeschooling seems absolutely terrifying to me. This sounds like so much work, so I completely commend you for it. I subscribed to this channel thinking in some way it may help me because I do a lot of tutoring and school work with my stepdaughter who has a learning disability and I'm always looking for ways to help her.

Just a quick question to homeschool parents. Do you not worry about them missing out, I’m 25 and I can’t help but think about how many mad and crazy and amazing memories I have from high school, being part of school bands, sports teams, going to proms and house parties, sleepovers, the amazing relationship with teachers and other peers. Although I don’t think homeschool kids are anti social, there is a large part of that school feeling you can’t recreate.. and I would really hate to see any of my kids miss out on all the amazing memories I got to make

Keira Manners I can't speak for every homeschooler but I was concerned about the same before homeschooling but there are so many opportunities to be involved in groups, co-ops, field trips etc that we could be out everyday busy if we wanted to. Also homeschoolers create their own atmosphere of relationships, sleep overs, vacations together etc. We can enjoy all the splash pads and pools together making memories while everyone else is in school, head to the beach with other families when it's not crowded and believe it or not we still have yearbooks, class pictures, prom etc. Once you are in the homeschooling world it's a community in and of itself, they don't miss out on a thing.

    • @thepearlmoon
      @thepearlmoon 6 лет назад

Keira Manners You can still do a lot of that outside of school if you have them participate in activities. You can still do sports and creative classes outside of school like ballet or soccer. So you can have friendships through that, have sleepovers, and develop relationships with your instructors. Also there are homeschool groups were you can meet with other kids and go on field trips. The only thing I’m unsure of is dances like prom.

    • @kristenheuer5676
      @kristenheuer5676 6 лет назад

There are lots of resources for these things outside of school. Community centers, homeschool groups, ect... They can play sports, they make friends, they go to dances. Some even have prom. Many states allow homeschoolers to participate in school sports and drama/music programs. They can do the same things public school kids do as far as extra-curricular things go.

Love this video! I have a 1.5 year old and a babe on the way, and I can’t wait to homeschool them! How do you manage homeschooling kiddos of different ages/grades? I would love to see maybe a look into a sample of how to teach a 4th and 6th grader and how you keep everything straight if that makes sense? Seriously LOVE this content Angie, thank you!

I absolutely love watching your videos. Thank you for your tips. I have decided to home school my kiddos for the first time this coming school year....which is a bit overwhelming when thought about..BUT I am also excited about due to the flexibility. I have decided to use the FLEX program with our school system.. which is part of their Virtual School but it's NOT full time. It is more catered to a "home school" schedule. Again, thank you for your videos. FYI.. real mom and raw moments with baby screaming in the background... I LOVE IT!!!

Not homeschooling yet, my baby's only 6m, I'm just doing research and getting ideas. Right now I'm thinking we'll do 4 days a week and then have a library day. I also think I want to have a break from Thanksgiving until after New Years because I always thought it was silly to go back to school for that brief few weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas where nothing gets done.

Love this. I've just recently decided to do a year-round homeschooling. Still gotta do that math and planning to see what exactly our family will need when the curricula come in, but it just seems like the best option for us. And I agree with the off-season thing: Nothing like going to the beach in October when no one is around! Fills my introverted heart with joy, lol!
