Sooo many questions! 1) do you allow your children to take breaks as often as they want? 2) when you said you “lost children” during the history part, did some ask to take a break or do something so you stopped the lesson to give a small break? Or do they just leave? 3) if they just leave, do you continue on with the lesson for the 1-2 children left & those gone miss out on the lesson, or is it made up somehow? 4) with such a large age group and some special needs mixed in, how do you carter each lesson to meet each child’s learning level?
It's easier than you'd think... they are all getting what they can, at their own level. People don't actually learn in grade levels, that's just how they set up classrooms in most schools. And different ages learning together, helps everyone learn better. But she's just letting her littles (under grade 3) get up and leave when and if they want. Doesn't mean they're not still catching bits here and there. They're getting exposed to so many things, and when things peak their interest, they stick around longer. Her older 2 are getting it all. Her younger ones are getting what they need.
I hope she gets back to you! I am thinking when she said "she lost a few" she meant the younger ones that she doesn't require to do the group studies yet. They are welcome to take part but they must have been excited in the beginning and then got a little bored so she lost them. 😉
My daughter is only 2 and we "homeschool" daily. I can't wait until she is the age we can start with real subjects and see what she is actually interested in 💖 Thank you for sharing
Love all your content, but definitely would like more homeschool videos! It was great when CR jumped in and was talking about an area he is passionate about. I love when my hubby does that with our daughter on something I’ve been teaching her.
A Long Walk to Water is such a moving book. My oldest was 9 when we read it for a book club, and it was so eye opening for her. God did some pretty awesome things from seeds of compassion that were planted from this book.
I’m curious to know how you check them on retaining information. I disagree with the rigorous tests and memorization of traditional school, but am wondering if you go back and review or give some kinds of tests
Yes to factual history! Honestly a huge deciding factor in my decision to homeschool was how schools in Australia whitewash history. My mum read aloud an autobiography of an aboriginal woman when we first got to Australia, I knew more about aboriginal history than my Australian born friends did (I still have alot to learn but now I have my side kick to learn with me)
Thank you for explaining how you don't "plan" your school lessons, but just track them! I have naturally been doing that too, but still feeling like I "have to" plan. But you are right, it just creates a burden and stress of feeling behind if you don't stick exactly to it. We get so much done anyways without needing to plan and life happens!
How cute would it be if they ALL picked out tea costumes to wear and characters to be for tea! Imagination use AND poetry time! And a little bit of theater thrown in there too!
I LOVE your poetry tea time shenanigans!!! It has inspired me to break out our Alice in Wonderland tea set, make some brownies (my favorite!), and dive into some poetry (NOT my favorite ;-P). Thank you!!!
The kids loved it! One of my kiddos really seemed to be drawn in to the poetry- it surprised me, but that’s why I love trying out new things- you never know whose interest will float to the surface.
You're so wonderfully relaxed! Inspiring... I am schooling my three little boys with a 4th on the way. So encouraging to see how natural you keep the schooling even with 8! What a blessing.
The tea time is such a cute idea and it looked like the kids really enjoyed it! Goodwill pretty much always has tea cups for usually $1 or less. Might be fun to take the kids and let them choose their own cups.
So sweet to have your husband working and homeschooling alongside you. My hubby does preschool books with our 5 and 3 year old why I do English with our older three. It's so nice working as a team in the home together, I feel so blessed to have him here.
I’m 24, single with no kids but this gives me so much inspiration for homeschooling one day. I love the idea of being able to give my future kids a catered teaching with accurate accounts of history and implementing a ton of fun activities to make education more enjoyable. I absolutely love this and your channel so much! Keep up the amazing work ❤️
You’re such a beautiful person, Angela! You’re a wonderful mother. I literally burst out crying when you put the tablecloth on and set the table, you have such a beautiful soul. Bless you and your family
Thank you so much for showing your poetry & tea. So stealing this idea. I'm a homeschool mom & my daughter just got a ceramic tea set. So such good timing on this idea. 💗
Found you recently. May I ask you, how do you always have your makeup, hair, nails done and do all that you do? I homeschool three little boys and that just doesn't seem like reality. Is your husband supportive and hands-on helpful with all the children or in the house? What time does everyone including you go to bed and what time do you wake up? Would love to know or even a video on maybe just you. You know we other moms find these things encouraging and inspiring.💜
Juggling 8 children... A huge house, two dogs (as far as I can see), a love life, house chores, shopping, looking beautifully put together, and entertaining your RUclips channel, plus presumably hobbies? Finance? Problems? Other family? How on earth are you guys doing it? I go to university, live with my fiancé and have two dogs and a a biggish house to care for and I'm crumbling.
Hey, you're doing great. I go to Uni and work full time. I don't get a pet because I already forget to feed myself some days. And I don't have the energy for a partner at the moment. My days are way to short.
One of my favourite memories growing is my mum and sister's reading aloud to me. Fun fact: I never read a Harry Potter, my sister read them all to me from when I was 10 to when we were in our teens just before she moved out
When you were setting up for poetry tea time, I thought to myself "Wow. She is serving and honoring her kids in such a sweet and humble way, just like the Lord does to us!"
That looks so interesting! Thx for sharing your routine :) Since I come from a country where homeschooling is not allowed, I have a few questions on how it works. I'm really curious about homeschooling and could even see myself doing it (if it were allowed in Germany). 1. Do you yourself "study" the units beforehand so you know what to teach them? 2. How to you go about teaching the different age groups? In Germany we learn very different stuff in year 8 vs year 10 for example. Will you repeat the stuff you teach Kennedy and Shelby now, when Noah is their age? And do Kennedy and Shelby study the exact same stuff eventhough they're slightly apart in age? 3. How do exams and grading work? 4. What kind of "final exam" or "title" do they get once they finish school? 5. How is homeschooling viewed in the general public or when applying for jobs / college? I realize thats lots of questions - sorry haha. If you're ever looking for video ideas, maybe a "explaining the homeschool system" would be really interesting - especially for your foreign viewers! :) Love your videos - all the best to your family! If you read this and think it's to complex or don't have time to answer - no worries :)
I loved this video! I would love to see more like this. Your homeschool day inspires me to add more fun to our school days. I feel like we have such a boring, mundane routine. I got great ideas from you, thank you!
The very first video TGN video, I watched was a homeschool day in the life. In the thumbnail you were carrying Rosie. Your homeschool videos are still some of my favorites. I always look forward to them.
Hey! I always wanted to get homeschooled (until my second high school). On the water unit, I'm a civil/water engineer, if you want any information about how we manage water day-day let me know :)
THANK YOU! I so appreciate watching the video and how you go about teaching and planning the lessons for your family. I enjoy all you've shared about the challenges and rewards of homeschooling in this video and am so very inspired by it all. I applaud you and other parents who are truly stepping up and taking a far more active roll in their children's education and over all well being. Engaging, encouraging and investing in the children and in their future is key!! Thank you so much for sharing and helping those who are just starting out to be hopeful, excited and inspired by you. What a blessing you are!!
This was great! I'd love to see more of what a typical day looks like for each grade. I have 8 kids - the oldest 3 have graduated from homeschool, 2 are high school, and the 3 youngest are elementary school. After all these years of homeschooling my kids, I still struggle with knowing how much is "enough". I love to see what others are doing. It helps so much!
I absolutely adored your spin on the poetry tea time, I loved seeing the kids reaction and seeing you get all pumped and excited to begin it. If you have more videos on poetry tea time please let me know and if not please consider doing more dedicated videos of them. 🤗
LOVE LOVE LOVE! I"m a homeschooled graduated and I've homeschooled my kids for 13 years so far. I have one graduating (from a private high school) this year and I'll be starting my 5 yr old in the fall, so I still have a long way to go. I LOVE your way of homeschooling, structured yet flexible. I see that you have just as much chaos with littles coming in and out as I do with just one "little" but you seem to keep your cool, too, which is great to see. I LOVE read aloud time. It took me a while to get used to it, believe it or not, I didn't actually read that many picture books to the kids when they were little, but I've come to really enjoy that part! I also do "units" for science, or we sort of "unschool" that subject throughout the day or with RUclips videos or yes, the husband likes to join in sometimes! I used to teach the middle two (we have 4 kids) together, but now that they are 11 and 14, they don't get along at all, so I separated them. Plus the 14 yr old is in 9th grade so his routine has changed a lot, so you might want to prepare yourself a bit for that. I only plan a little bit ahead as well, more like an overall idea, because lots of things come up with my health with appointments or stuff at church. Great job on Poetry and Tea Time! I learned about it a few years ago, but it didn't stick with us. You plan so well! I don't look ahead on lessons like that, but it's what a lot of people do. Great job! I have a ton of resources because my mom kept a lot of the books we used in our homeschool growing up. Otherwise, I use the library a lot! Especially with history! One thing I would love to see is how you handle kids who don't want to do their work and/or when they argue throughout the day. That's where I struggle the most. Especially being inside during the winter. Thanks!
I feel the same way about history. We just went through the pilgrams as well. A lot of the book views aren't totally factual. Thanks for the video. I homeschool as well.
I don't homeschool but I'm thinking about trying it for next year (3rd grade). What are some things you see in the textbooks that are less factual and more "school book" as she described?
Moving forward towards the future! Yeah, I was homeschooled, and once I became an adult. I fully realized the depth, and nuanced history education. I received, I’m extremely thankful for it.
@@coryf725 I think it has to do with a lot of history being "surgar coated" to make some country look better than others or some races look better than others. History, in some cases is biased in some way. I look at history as more of a lessened learned at the moment or how could have that been handled better.
Well school teaches you about Christopher Columbus and the pilgrims right. But it's not for the right reason and the way he actually treated the natives was much harsher than what's described. Just like sacagawea was treated much worse than what was told to us as well. That's what should be taught..
I love how you build your units and make less interesting subjects fun and interactive!! 😍 Even if it’s not everyday, it shows how much you care and know your children well!! 💝
YES! to all of the homeschool videos! This was the original reason I started following you and how I found your channel.. then I fell in love with you guys (sounds creepy haha don’t mean it that way 🙃🤣) and I watch all of your content now! ❤️
I admire u so so much!! The fun & interesting ideas u put into home schooling...ur even & kind tone & way about u! U are wonderful & truly inspirational!! I don’t know how u don’t have a million subscribers already?! ❤️🙏🏻
I'm obsessed with this tea time idea! I HATED poetry studies growing up. But I definitely think I could get behind something like this. I'm thinking old frumpy lady look, big feather hat, white gloves, big boa or necklace or something along those lines. I think this could also be fun for art. Get yourself a smushy hat and a paint board and teach the kids and art lesson. Thanks for the great idea!
I loved this! Back when I was first considering homeschooling when my girls were teeny tiny, you were one of the first homeschooling RUclipsrs I stumbled upon. You only had a few videos (you also only had a few kids!), and I loved hearing about the way you homeschooled. You, along with several other RUclips moms, gave me the courage to jump in with both feet, and now I am midway through our fifth year of homeschooling my fourth and first grade daughters.
I love watching how you homeschool. I have 6 kids. I homeschool 3 of them right now. I can't separate the little kids from the older ones. So we do have distractions. We do more of a traditional school. But I'm hoping to change somethings soon. I would love to do school like you. You are really engaged and it seems fun. My children are still young, and I want to change things but I'm not sure how.
I can’t even lie the part when you dressed up was my favorite part definitely opened my eyes up as a teaching parent I definitely have to try to keep things fun and upbeat
Yay for poetry tea time! We love “Where the Sidewalk Ends” for funny poetry. Thank you for being brave and sharing your silly mom moments in your homeschool day. I am a fool for the sake of learning as well some days. Glad I’m not alone 😜
I love how you try to stay creative with the curriculum. I’m actually a student teacher and I would look into visible thinking strategies, I think it would be a great use of your black board. There are so many different ideas related to that but one thing you could do is draw the water cycle and leave it unlabeled and the kids label it with whatever initial thinking they have then they can go to change and add more to their ideas as they learn more :) It’s a great way of doing science, it allows you to gauge how much they know as well as what they are interested in and want to learn more about.
You are fantastic. The level of depth of your lessons exceeds most of what I have seen in most schools here (in Australia 🇦🇺). You truly love these kids. It's so genuine and not just for the show of Instagram.
You probably already know this, but as a retired children's librarian I feel compelled to add that your public library (I'm not sure about *your public library*) but many libraries cater to homeschoolers, either by working with kids at the library or providing resources to families. A good way to bulk up your additional materials. They can check them out for longer and usually provide you with a list so you know what you've got checked out. Also, two recommendations for your wonderful poetry unit: The Random House Book of Children's Poetry is the only book I could rely on that grouped poems by subject. Also, don't skip Valerie Worth and All the Small Poems. Fantastic!
I loved this video! Kylee just read a long walk to water and was enthralled. She highly recommends. Also, I loved seeing you play and have fun with your babies. Those moments are memory makers!
Beautiful! Watching your love and dedication truly warms my heart. 🥰 I’ve been working with my 2 year old and it has been so fun. I was homeschooled and I’m confident your children will be very grateful for all you’ve invested in them when they’re older. (Not saying they aren’t grateful now, but will be even more so when they’re older 😉)
Where did you start when you made the decision that you wanted to home school? Or what steps would you recommend for us moms who are at square 1? I have a young toddler and don't even know what to research first for when he's older. No matter what style we do, I'll be honest that I don't want something that regularly requires a huge amount of work and stress on my part. I know I want to take advantage of following his interest levels as much as possible and provide truthful building blocks. I'm also a believer and am conscientious of how my methods will impact him in his long-term beliefs.
RUclips is a great place to start. With what your wanting I would look at videos of "minimalist homeschool curriculum" or "relaxed homeschool". I also found a few short books on Amazon that I find helpful. "The unhurried homeschooler" and Relaxed homeschooling I think they were called. I hope that helps!
Start by reading! There are so many wonderful resources. Learn about different styles, but know that ultimately you will blaze your own trail. Some of my favorite books have been Home Learning Year by Year, The Well Trained Mind, The Brave Learner, Teaching from Rest, and Project-Based Homeschooling. We are 8 years into homeschooling and loving it! Best wishes. 💕
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this idea!! You could also incorporate manners and etiquette too - how to be ladies and gentlemen. How men are to treat a lady and such.
Ahhhh! I LOVE POETRY! It makes my heart so happy that you are exposing them to poetry to them at such a young age. I am working on publishing my first poetry book and my love of poetry began at there age. Keep being the awesome momma you are!
Love the video! Can you do a video explaining when/how you decide what units to do for everyone? When do you put everything together, how long does it take you to put together a unit? I would also love a video of you with your littles doing school work!
I only have one little preschool girl and sometimes I feel exhausted, watching your video really encourages me to do better in parenting:-) Your kids are so lucky to be your kids. God bless you!! :-)
I am so thankful to have found your channel!!! So much great info for a new to be homeschooler of three 8yr olds this year. Can you please give your playlist for this video? I love it!!
Can you homeschool me? I graduated in 2009 but that's not the point
Haha! I’m schooling myself again too in so many areas!
Me too?
Angela I would love to know what you do as far as "preschool" type learning.
Yes me too!!!
Sooo many questions! 1) do you allow your children to take breaks as often as they want? 2) when you said you “lost children” during the history part, did some ask to take a break or do something so you stopped the lesson to give a small break? I love to see how you homeschool, I'm really hoping to homeschool my daughter.

Awesome with the discernment ! So happy to hear someone actually using wisdom in those areas
You’re such a beautiful person, Angela! You’re a wonderful mother. I literally burst out crying when you put the tablecloth on and set the table, you have such a beautiful soul. Bless you and your family

I wish I could "love" this video! This was all so helpful as a future homeschooling mom.
Angela, Your BEST video to date!! Thank you, thank you!!! I needed this💗
We write down what we do everyday too. I have a lose schedule of what I’d like to get done but if it doesn’t happen, our entire schedule isn’t ruined.
Every video you just get more and more beautiful!!! You are glowing!!!! Love your homeschooling vids. Lord bless you and your family!
YES! to all of the homeschool videos! This was the original reason I started following you and how I found your channel.. then I fell in love with you guys (sounds creepy haha don’t mean it that way 🙃🤣) and I watch all of your content now! ❤️
Same! Lol
Same!!!
Me too! I don’t even homeschool but find homeschooling interesting!
THIS is encouraging. THANK YOU for sharing. I'm a homeschooling mama of 5 VERY ACTIVE boys - LOVE THIS
I love getting a glimpse into your homeschool day. I use my planner like you do by writing down what we accomplish each day.
I have zero children and am 1000% obsessed with your videos and your channel!! *hugs*
Thank you for sharing your homeschool day! We started our homeschool journey this year and it is helpful to see what works for other families.
I loved this video. I would love to see other ways you make learning engaging and fun. This video was really inspiring ❤️
Your kids are so incredibly lucky.
Your video somehow gave me a glimpse of what it is like to homeschool when I become a mom! more video like this please!! :D
I really wish my husband could be home and help with the homeschooling. You are very blessed to have that.
We definitely need more home school content!
You are fantastic. The level of depth of your lessons exceeds most of what I have seen in most schools here (in Australia 🇦🇺). You truly love these kids. It's so genuine and not just for the show of Instagram.
I never thought of homeschooling but it looks interesting maybe when I have kids I will try it
You probably already know this, but as a retired children's librarian I feel compelled to add that your public library (I'm not sure about *your public library*) but many libraries cater to homeschoolers, either by working with kids at the library or providing resources to families.
I love that you homeschool you are an inspiration.
The oldest two daughters have such a happy face during there tea party, you just tell they are So proud of there mama /teacher 💗
She has some videos on this in her homeschool playlist
RUclips is a great place to start. With what your wanting I would look at videos of "minimalist homeschool curriculum" or "relaxed homeschool". I also found a few short books on Amazon that I find helpful. "The unhurried homeschooler" and Relaxed homeschooling I think they were called. I hope that helps!
Also looking at state laws and requirements for your States is a good idea once you decide if you want to homeschool or not.

This is an old video of Angie's that addresses some of your questions.
I loooove the homeschool content! I watched during our quiet time & it's now back to the homeschooling here for a few more lessons!
The poetry tea time got me singing " Aaaaa very merry un-birthday to YOU!"
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this idea!! You could also incorporate manners and etiquette too - how to be ladies and gentlemen. How men are to treat a lady and such.
How awesome to incorporate the tea time activity!! I'm sure it was so much fun for the kids :)
This is our second year homeschooling it it has been a lot better. I appreciate your homeschool videos they have been so helpful
Thank you so much I will do homeschool for my kids also
I love Usborne books :) I used to be a consultant and my kids love those books.
I am really praying about the option of homeschooling. 🙏 thank you!
So many good things integrated in that PTT! So endearing and inspiring to see a mom get into it to help her kids get into it!
We have used 1 TGTB science curriculum so far and really liked it. Seeing how you prep it was super helpful! Thank you for showing that.
This is such a fun video. Love how real it is. I only have my one son to homeschool and really appreciate these tips!
This video was seriously the cutest! ❤ I love all your videos so much!
Your tea time put a smile on my face!!.. they loved it so much!
