The beauty of this k1 is that Ernesto Hoost got wooped by Bob Sapp but Bob was so injured after all the leg kicks that Ernesto still went through to the next round. Too bad that part has been cut out. Love to see this footage again!
I was wondering why hoost won the title after beiing defeated by sapp... now, i know :) le banner deserved 1 K1 title but hoost is just the best k1 fighter ever !
I thought I smoked a little to many when I saw Hoost magically reappearing in the half final. Now I get what happened. BTW It actually looked like Sapp was trying to tell this to Hoost and his team, but they were so angry with the defeat that they stormed of without listening. :)
First of all: Ernesto NEVER should have gotten into that position!! He had already battered Sapp's leg to the point he had trouble walking. All he had to do is listen to his coach and keep distance and kick Sapp's left leg. He was silly to decide to punch it out with the giant. 2nd: The referee was waaay too fast to stop the fight. Hoost still had his guard up. That was a very questionable decision.
Alexey Ignashov said in interview, he asked Hoost: "why havent you knocked Sapp out into the liver after your strong liver strike? Hoost answered he wanted to knock him out just into his head. So it was Hoosts brovada
All right, being from Holland I don't have any illusions about being objective in this :). But if you ask me , It starts of with 2 very dubious decisions against the two Dutch fighters. I love Sefo, but I don't see any reason for him to have the upper hand against Aerts (I think even an extra round would have been a lucky decision for Sefo) and I think the ref ended the fight between Hoost and Sapp way to soon. Did anyone think Hoost looked like he was to hurt or shook up enough to continue the fight? Hee looked sharp as a knive. Sapp on the other hand looked like he just fought a war and was about to collapse. BTW, I read comments about Sapp being the end of K1. And I get where it's coming from. But figures like him, the fact that people from every background could compete, is also precisely what made k1, in my opinion. But amazing watching this stuff back after all these years. Thanks for the upload!

久しぶりに見るとサップとホーストの試合物凄いな！
懐かしいなぁ、この頃は一回戦に日本人選手とあたる人がほぼほぼファイナリストになってたんだよな。世界の壁は厚い、武蔵が決勝まで行ったのは時代が変わったのかなあと思ったのが懐かしい。
日本人選手＝弱い＝対戦相手は体力温存＝決勝へ
確かに。バンナは１回戦佐竹雅昭、武蔵。アーツは後川、佐竹雅昭、武蔵、澤屋敷。フグは佐竹雅昭。ミルコは武蔵、セフォーも武蔵とそういえば全員ファイナリストまで行けてるわ😅そう考えると１回戦で一度も日本人に当たることなくファイナリストまで行ったのはブランコ、ホースト、ハント、フィリォ、レミー、バダ・ハリ、シュルト、アリスターだなぁ。
武蔵好きではないけどこのバンナ戦は凄く良かったと思う。
澤屋敷みたく勝つよりも、ちゃんと向かって負ける方がまだ良い。

99年、00年、02年と、決勝ラウンド初戦(準々決勝)で武蔵と戦った選手が決勝まで進み、ホーストに敗れるという展開ですね。
'96
97年はフグが１回戦で佐竹雅昭を秒殺して決勝でホーストに敗れてましたね。因みにバンナが決勝まで行ったのが95年と02年。どれも１回戦は佐竹雅昭、武蔵と日本人。ミルコも１回戦武蔵。それ以外でバンナもミルコも開幕戦と１回戦で敗退してたな🤣

バンナの腕のダメージだが、ハントにダウン奪われたとき、しりもちついた時に変な腕のつきかたしてしまいこの時既にかなりダメージがあったと、後にバンナ本人がジャンクスポーツで語っている
