A Bit of an Improvement

  • While looking for my college resume, I found the first viewmodel animation I ever did. For my 2019 college final, I built two guns, a shooting range, Catz's arms that I also rigged and textured, and then animated it all for a video that I had on my demo reel at the time.
    I found the original file and got a friend to extract the gun from 3ds Max. I tried my best to fix it up in Blender, but some of the assets were either missing or broken. I used some CoD attachments to fill the empty rails on it instead.
    It's neat to see how far I've come with this animation interest.
    Some sounds and attachments are from CoD

    @ThePivotuserful123 Год назад

    I'm all for this style of improvement. The first concept of your reload animation was pretty good for the time, in the sense that the animation existing in 2019 was very reminiscent of the kind of gun animations you would see in early Halo games or Killzone 3 in particular. Somewhat floaty (especially with the magazines) and relatively slow.
    The current animation is obviously higher quality but not in an obnoxious way (for lack of better term). The animations aren't too punchy, like what you would find in the latest Call Of Duty games where the gun operator is almost smashing and bashing every part of the gun together everytime for a reload.
    I hope this makes sense, but your gun feel conveys the right amount of "ka-chunk" for a weapon. Not too much that the gun might fall apart after one battle. Nor is it too less that the gun is being operated in a game with limited processing power.

  • @calmcraft5852
    @calmcraft5852 Год назад +1

    That hand guard makes the mag well so bad. It's your design, and you are free do do whatever you want with it, but I'd get rid of it for ergonomics sake. Just imagine trying to put a mag in and getting your finger crushed between the guard and magazine, yeouch.
    You could also just extend the shroud on the mag well similar to the AR platform. On an AR the mag well comes down to the end of the trigger guard. This eliminates conflict between your thumb and the trigger guard, and only results in a bit more of the magazine being covered.
    Overall still a fantastic set of animations, sorry for ranting about gun design. 😅
