Most American drivers don't want an autoshift. By and large, they all shift without a clutch. The Eaton trans is extremely reliable in the hands of a skilled driver.

Why are you not showing us the person driving the truck
good throttle operation, however, there's room for improvement regarding the gear changes.
Clutchless gear changes don't go well with post 2002 volvo trucks as the connecting mechanism, at least for european models, are no longer mechanical but pneumatic. Therefore, 1-2 gear change without using clutch, although possible, is rather hard.
Your car has a synchronized transmission that uses an internal ring/clutch to line up the gears as you shift.
Trucks are non-synchronized. Between each gear the driver has to manually match engine and drivetrain speeds. This is where double-clutching comes into play.
Once a driver is experienced enough with his truck he can shift without using the clutch at all.
Instead, you do it all with the accelerator pedal

Trucks aren’t synchro? You mean in the USA right? European Trucks have full synchro gears
risky business need a pushing truck too to ease the burden on the load bearing truck

im a deck driver with an 04 Volvo day cab 10 speed with a tuned cummins at 510hp. average load of steel from 40,000 to a low 50,000
but i don't double clutch, i float and jake down all the time. progressive shift when lighter than 25,000 or so until 8th, but anything past that i only progressive shift until im out of the basement.

They're still popular in north and south America, but in Europe it's synchronized manual transmissions or automatic gearboxes that is most common.
your double clutching causes violent hits, you should go clutchless!

original volvo trans the early 60's,70's, is 16 speed synchronised.up to 80's 12 speed forward+ 2 crawler,2 reverse.the 18 sp eaton fuller also 16 speed + 2 crawler.first and second speed is low-low=euro trans crawler.then follows first main speed and remaining speeds.

I havent seen that type of tranmission since, well, the 80;ies! Do they still make this type of gearboxes? And sell them?
I’m a little late here but they put them in trucks currently. Not in most company fleet trucks though

Hi Pether, Sorry I missed the point here. I drive a 5 speed manual car, the gear won't move without me pressing the clutch fully. How could this massive truck would change gear without the clutch?? Unless it is automatic? Just curious Thanks

My dad drives an 18 speed transmission I will soon be learning how to drive one and i'm 12.
I'm 15 and know how to a 13speed i can do a video for you dude to show you how to do a 13speed and an 18speed if you want me too i do an 18speed as well
Wynand Rautenbach 18 and 13 is the same box, 13 has a red spliiter, 18 has a grey one. You can split an 18 in both ranges but you can only split high side on a 13
yes i know i've told that before bu thanks for reminding me though i know this on an 18 u can split both ranges but 13 only the hi-side and truth is all i'll ever need is the capability to split the hi-side i dont actually have to have the capability to split both ranges because sometimes the 18 does confuse me i get lost in my gears
you'll need it depending on what your pulling, your rears, the terrain, hill grades, ect. Believe me, those half gears come in mighty handy.
i agree the 18 really comes in handy when you're pullin' heavy loads but for the loads commonly pulled here [28tons-58tons]
the 13 and 18 do the job side by side but for the light loads i recommend a 13 heavy loads[40tons to 58tons] use an 18 gives you more gears to channel the engine's power through

true to tradition and cool in the non-synchronized gearbox in America but the Eaton-Fuller also began synchronized transmissions manufactured, why? because the synchronous converter does not need months to get used to it, learn to use less fuel in the truck, lower the motor speed, faster change! anyway i tried the Volvo I-Shift automatic and world Champion, quick as lightning, accurate, and 98% of the people when they became too shifting.1-2 liter -fuel consumption.

Last year was my first year. This was how i learned it at school and it's how all the teachers wanted me to do it. After a couple of weeksi began working and i did not have a teacher next to me i forgot i still have a clutch pedal lol. Now i only use it to start from a stop. It's true that it is easier and faster without the clutch but you have to know your truck.
Way are ther a gearbox from 70s in a 09 truck? In sweden Volvo has full sync gearbox from earli 80s as standard! And They holding very good.
