PCA Decision about LGBT Issue

- Pastor Joel Smit joins Jason Whitaker and Tim Frisch to discuss matters in the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA). Recently, the PCA General Assembly made amendments to the Book of Church Order concerning the issue of whether those who identify as gay can be ordained to the ministry.
PCA Book of Church Order Amendments:
BCO 16-4 Officers in the Presbyterian Church in America must be above reproach in their walk and Christlike in their character. Those who profess an identity (such as, but not limited to, “gay Christian,” “same sex attracted Christian,” “homosexual Christian,” or like terms) that undermined or contradicts their identity as new creations in Christ, either by denying the sinfulness of fallen desires (such as, but not limited to, same sex attraction), or by denying the reality and hope of progressive sanctification, or by failing to pursue Spirit-empowered victory over their sinful temptations, inclinations, and actions are not qualified for ordained office.
BCO 21-4 e. In the examination of the candidate’s personal character, the presbytery shall give specific attention to potential notorious concerns, such as but not limited to relational sins, sexual immorality (including homosexuality, child sex abuse, fornication, and pornography), addictions, abusive behavior, racism, and financial mismanagement. Careful attention must be given to his practical struggle against sinful actions, as well as to persistent sinful desires. The candidate must give clear testimony of reliance upon his union with Christ and the benefits thereof by the Holy Spirit, depending on this work of grace to make progress over sin (Psalm 103:2-5, Romans 8:29) and to bear fruit (Psalm 1:3, Gal. 5:22-23). While imperfection will remain, he must not be known by reputation or self-profession according to his remaining sinfulness, but rather by the work of the Holy Spirit in Christ Jesus (1 Cor. 6:9-11). In order to maintain discretion and protect the honor of the pastoral office, Presbyteries are encouraged to appoint a committee to conduct detailed examinations of these matters and to give prayerful support to candidates.

Huh, my comment was deleted. Just wanted to say that it's great that the PCA is taking a firm stand against LGBTQ culture, and isn't caving into theological liberalism/modernism.

Glad for the clarifications at the beginning about the issues in the PCA. I'm an RE in the PCA and so many people have the misperception that the PCA is debating about allowing practicing LGBTQ+ people to the ordained ministry. It is certainly more nuanced than that.
As I understand it, the sins we commit are first in the heart, in the desire, then we too often yield to that desire, and then they work themselves out in our actions (or inaction). But the sin starts in the sinful desire. James 1:15. Thanks! Great discussion.
Desires are definitely sinful. Jesus said, when you lust it's a heart issue. You've already committed adultery in your heart. Etc...

It doesn't matter if you don't believe in God, God is still real and you're still on your way to torment in hell when you die. And you will die one day. Repent and believe the gospel.

It's a interesting topic. I would personally want a pastor who lives a moral and holy life to the standard of the bible. It's relatively that's trying to sneak into our Christian body of believers. No wonder why some churches look just like the world
According to the Teachings of the Bible "All active Homosexuals and Homosexuality Sympathizers (applies to LGBTQ+) are going to Hell for an Eternity, Unless the come to full repentance and God Forgives them".

No, but you do if you are going to become a ruling or teaching elder.

I kid you not, at 7:30 seconds, an ad interrupted this discussion promoting a trans-gendered man (a man presenting as a woman). Think that happened by accident? I’ve watched hundreds of RUclips videos and have never seen this ad before.
I could never be a PCA member since they accept LGBTQ as acceptable church leaders. Love and forgiveness with the need to stop and leave the sin is ok, acceptance and condoning of those sins are not ok. Acting upon those desires and not addressing the thoughts as sinful is what makes them a sin.
1 Corinthians 6:9-11
"Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,"
"Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God."
"And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God."
That's "such WERE some of you", not such ARE some of you but you don't act on it. Scripture is clear in all points mentioned on this stream as well as here in 1 Corinthians, and we live by God's word rather than the world. The problem is that mankind hates to call sin what it is, calling it hate to do so, but the fact is that all mankind is sinful and in need of salvation. The world cherry picks sins to focus on to make a claim of discrimination, but God says:
Psalms 14:1-3
"To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good."
"The LORD looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, and seek God."
"They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: there is none that doeth good, no, not one."
That's as inclusive as it gets, it literally applies to everyone. I would avoid allowing the world to focus in on only one sin and rather call attention to all sin as equally deadly, so that the narrow narrative be opened up into a full gospel presentation whenever possible.
