I like the dual screens, not the either or thing the switch has. They made it portable, but they did not innovate, they went backwards. Homie showing mario maker 2 having to swap into and out of the dock, and also the lack of stylus really drives home how the switch aint perfect. I miss the additional speakers in the controllers of the wii, and the dual screen experience of the ds, and those 2 things combined into the gamepad. It pains me to know that Zelda Breath of The Wild had real gamepad support planned and implemented, but it had to be axed to make both the wii u and the switch versions equal. That would have been a great game for 2 screens...
Like the gamecube, what will people miss and be nostalgic about when it comes to the switch? I bet it will feel beyond dated 2 seconds after the next system comes.
I hate how the switch made you have to put it in the dock so you could use it on tv rather than what the Wii U did with you being able to have it out of the dock to play
I used to use the TV Control button a lot, but it’s mostly useless now since Smart TVs have a completely different style of remote. But there is a mod that lets you switch the TV and Gamepad screens by pressing it, so it’s gain some new functionality I guess. The Wii U is also my favorite console, and I really like the gamepad when it’s used well.
Twilight Princess HD's item swapping is way worse than the original's item wheel, honestly. Aside from that, you're right. I'd like to add in Pikmin 3 as one of the best uses of the gamepad, as a separate strategy tablet and map while you control with the Wii Remote. Xenoblade X utilized it insanely well as a map that controlled fast travel and mining operations for the game, and Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE used it as both your map and a wide screen view of your character's cell phone. It felt really intuitive and made me love that ridiculous game. Highly underrated, especially on the Wii U. Additionally, Darksiders 2 had a far better menu & map use than the Zelda games, with a single on-screen button that could swap between any main menu page and the map so you could instantly get to the page you wanted, though was held back by not being able to upgrade gear or abilities in the gamepad menus or fast travel from the map, unfortunately. Still saved tons of time since the pause screen in that game took a minute to load. A highly underrated port, even if it's obvious the port ran out of time/money somewhere along the way. The DS virtual console was also awesome! And some indies really utilizes the 2 screens. I always regretted how Nintendo treated the Wii U. It felt like they thought off-tv play was the killer app of console instead of it being a dual screen device. Feels like the Wii U should've been the sequel to the Switch, not the other way around. Maybe Nintendo's just sick of dual screen gaming.
I dont like how in Twilight Princess HD the long arrow skill shot is much easier using the gamepad or controller instead of the wii remote. It cheapened the experience of trying to shakily make a long range seemingly impossible shot. I made it first try on the gamepad, but on wii, I remember struggling appropriately and feeling accomplished once I let the last arrow loose. I wonder what it was like on the gamecube...
Resident Evil Revelations had a map and weapon swapping on the gamepad screen, so that is great for Resident Evil, as pausing to see the map cuts into the pacing pretty significantly. If it had gyro aiming it would be perfect, but it does not. I wonder if anyone has worked on adding it through mods... It was a solid Wii U title, a port through, originally designed on the 3ds, I wish it had just a bit more to it, but you can't undervalue always having a map available in a Resident Evil game, it rocks...I beat that game on infernal difficulty.
The Wii U version was the weakest version out of the rest because of cut content which is the problem for Wii U AAA ports. The switch version had all the contents from the ps3/360 version.
I’m surprised you didn’t mention ZombiU. That game has one of the best uses for the gamepad. I know it’s not really a Nintendo game, but it was made specifically for the Wii U
@@DelXeno I have played the game and it’s pretty good. The Wii U version of the game is by far the best way to play it since it’s what it was designed for. It’s not the greatest game of all time or anything, but it’s super unique in how it uses the gamepad to enhance the horror genre. I highly recommend it just for that alone and this is coming from a guy that doesn’t even really like horror games
Say what you want but the wii-U sucked. It’s not that it was a bad console it just didn’t have enough games. I bought one at launch and mariokart was all I remember
If Mario Kart's all you remember then you weren't even trying. The only thing that really sucked were the awful load times and marketing that kept it from getting picked up and Nintendo's dumb insistence on making games support off-tv play as if that was the killer app of the console. So many games were held back by not being able to fully utilize the dual screen setup and Nintendo's efforts in the final years just showed that they didn't even really think about how to do it right themselves after Nintendo Land and Pikmin 3. But Xenoblade X, Tokyo Mirage Sessions, Darksiders 2 even, Lego City, and tons of indies used the thing well. Nintendo just made it too slow and overall handled it poorly because they largely did not treat it like a dual screens device. Look into the modding scene for it. It's one of the best modded consoles out there. All the backwards compatibility, it can play gamecube discs even, which Nintendo also handicapped the system by software locking that out of the retail release, and is just generally much better. It's crazy how golden that system was and Nintendo clearly never realized it and was thus not able to communicate it at all.
i could talk about this console for years. i dangerously prefer the wii u over the switch. great video !!!

It's a pretty unique precursor to the vr head set like how the Wii and VirtuaBoy were early prototypes of Vr

I bought a Wii U recently and was amazed at how light the gamepad is, it feels really good to hold. Love this thing!
It's honestly such an amazing console
It seriously is, really glad I picked one up!
I love watching Wii stuff for the nostalgia so glad this was recommended to me!!
i think the wii u is the perfect home console
I’m a simple man, i see Wii U, i click.
I loved the Wii U
Tank! Tank! Tank! let you play the game on the gamepad it self. It was great when my parents were watching TV and I wanted to play the Wii U as a kid.
Never had a Wii U , had a regular Wii back in the day and a different Wii now , maybe this video will convince me to get a Wii U 🤔
Absolutely you should. Very easy to jail break too 😉
Wii u pad is way more comfortable then the switch. Its more robust yet lighter 😀

awesome video keep up the good work my guy !

ZombiU was launched at the worst time in an oversaturated market for zombie games at the time. Resident Evil Operation Racoon City was the final nail.
Surprised paper mario wasn’t on this list but great video very interesting

It was insane how expensive it made the system. It was over $100 in price and it had a terrible battery life.
have you ever seen a console that costs less than 100$?
@@arthurgamerpro6585 yes the 2ds. A console that can play and do way more things aside from streaming wii u content to it and be a controller.
@@arthurgamerpro6585 He might be talking about just the gamepad. If that's the case, then yeah it was expensive for how long the battery lasted.
