    Nothing too world-shockingly new so far, but the next episode will include a new ' end of early game' strategy i've adopted over the last months. It will help you avoid a lot of power issues, spaghetti, as well as a lot of unnecessary time spent building things that will be broken down later on. Make sure to join in!

    Awesome to get a new series for DSP from you! Keep it up and I like the pace, really no need to spend too much time in the early stages.
    As I am having a playthrough with minimal resources, I am more focused on bottlenecks, so maybe you should mention that oil wells decay over time, but I guess later down the line you will centralize processing anyway, so only a minor detail.
    On another note as I saw the flickering on production you could maybe make a small section for early game energy production, like if the thermal station is worth it.

    • @TheDutchActuary
      @TheDutchActuary  Год назад

      With minimal resources you can pretty much play as I do here, you'll just need to make sure you don't fill up unnecessary stockpiles with items you don't need, and put everything you do produce to good use. I think you'll like the next episode, as the strategy I will use to get to yellow science fits rather well into a minimal resource game.

    • @kryolith3330
      @kryolith3330 Год назад

      You are right, your strategy is viable for minimal resources, but the most annoying bottleneck will come with purple science, in my seed I was blessed with less than 100k silicon in the starting solar system. Just annoying to get silicon from stone, so I will postpone automating purple until I have warpers ready to get it elsewhere reliably.

    I have 2 blue print folders filled with about 50 blue prints for start->win. One for a fire ice gas giant start, and one for deuterium gas giant start. It takes me about 15 hours to "win". The other 7 plans I have are planetary builds. A planet that builds every machine(including warpers and antimatter fuel rods), a refinery planet, a photon/antimatter planet, 100 white science/sec planet, rocket planet, solar sail planet, and a Dyson sphere creator planet...basically all rocket and em launchers. After "winning" there is no need to dick around with small builds. Planetary builds is the only thing that makes sense.

    So far everything looks very efficient. I must say that in early game DSP is in many ways similar to Factorio, yet it seems better. Maybe just a subjective feeling, but I believe that logistics in Factorio, and many small issues were less efficient, especially for new players, while in DSP it is very easy to kick into a game. And, last but not least: I actually enjoy not having any bugs around. I love being able to focus on building stuff only... I hope we will get option to turn off enemies in game update, when those enemies finally show up.

    At 10:44 you say that you want 3 red science per second so you need 6 hydrogen per second, but the red science recipe only gets you 1 red science per 6 seconds, so to get 3 per second you'd need to run 18 of them, which would cost 36 hydrogen per second. Am I missing something?

    • @robinleepowell
      @robinleepowell Год назад

    I might be jumping ahead here since it could be mentioned later in the series, but why not use the early refined oil supply in the thermal power plants?

    • @TheDutchActuary
      @TheDutchActuary  Год назад

      I try to stay away from any type of power supply that is too reliant on inputs that might easily lead to a power spiral.
      Low on power = low on production = lower power... you get the idea.
      Going wind > solar > Deuterium rods is usually a pretty safe & easy way to avoid problems.
      (and yes, Deuterium rods do have the same potential issue, but at this point you'll typically be producing on several planets so one planet being low on power is in most cases not a spiral waiting to happen)

    The initial set up for red science is overkill - just get enough hydrogen to research x-ray cracking, then do a big set up.

    • @TheDutchActuary
      @TheDutchActuary  Год назад

      The build is actually not really meant for the red science (in the long rung), and I don't think x-ray cracking is particularly useful. If anything, I would say that cracking itself is overkill (at the very least for the purpose of red science initially)

    • @Azige
      @Azige Год назад

      I like to do this too. Just input 4/s crude oil to get 2/s hydrogen and prepare another 3/s graphite to kickstart red science. Late use X-ray cracking to get a total of 6/s hydrogen and 4+3/s graphite for 3/s red science. No double belts and no excess refined oil to deal, gracefully! And there is a extra 1/s graphite to feed the mech.

    Any reason why you didn’t use the second refinery recipe to convert refined oil into hydrogen and graphite? It seems to be designed specifically for red science production.

    • @TheDutchActuary
      @TheDutchActuary  Год назад

      Mostly because you'll quickly switch to getting hydrogen from other sources, and graphite is much easier to get straight from coal. There's nothing wrong with using those options per se, but I don't consider them to be efficient.
      You also don't have a large amount of oil to work with early in the game either, and you do need a bunch of that for other purposes.

    Any particular reason to stockpile that sheer volume of refined oil rather than just burning it in a thermal generator for a little extra power generation and introducing a essentially 3rd renewable power source to your base?
    Seems a lot to just sit on that could at least have some redeemable return considering you're going to be producing absurd volumes of it either way.

    • @TheDutchActuary
      @TheDutchActuary  Год назад +1

      I try to stay away from relying on fuel that will eventually run out by itself, potentially causing a cascading power issue that might turn off your entire planet (been there, done that...)
      The stockpile itself isn't really needed, but its also not going to waste as early end-game I usually reach a point where I actually run out of oil (temporarily) before I scale production up again.

    • @Tiki832
      @Tiki832 Год назад

      @@TheDutchActuary I'm seeing what you mean now, I incorrectly figured oil wells were a continuous output source. I'm now finding on my starting planet the oil wells are now barely outputting 0.3 units a second.
      Definitely wish I had kept more of that stockpile now, fortunately with some merging it's still possible to keep the refinery continuous fed for now.

    How can you put belts and buildings that close? When I try to put inserters, it says almost always "too close". I have to leave one block gap between all my buildings and belts otherwise it says "too close". But sometimes it doesn't, it is weird.

    • @TheDutchActuary
      @TheDutchActuary  Год назад

      It depends where you are on the grid. In some places (specifically, on the edges before a 'jump' in the grid) the buildings get pressed closer together.
      This is why I tend to make my blueprints at the northern edge of a grid section. If it works there, it will work everywhere.

    • @TheDutchActuary
      @TheDutchActuary  Год назад

      No tricks involved, it should ' just work ' when you join up different belts in this shape (assuming you're talking about merging, not splitting - for that you need a splitter).
      If it's not working for you the only reason I can think of would be some mod interfering. I've not had a single problem with this over hundreds of hours of gameplay.

    Can you explain the math between need 24 oil refinery needing 2 full belts of oil?

    • @TheDutchActuary
      @TheDutchActuary  Год назад

      Sure!
      Step 1: Oil is processed into refined oil at a rate of 2 oil / 4 seconds. Or in other words: 0.5 oil/s.
      Step 2: So 24 refinery's need 24 * 0.5 = 12 oil / s as inputs in order to be fully functional.
      Step 3: At this point i'm still working with mark 1 belts, which can handle at most 6 items / second. So you'll need 12 / 6 = 2 full belts.
