Best hats in Bolt Action... Bersaglieri are the obvious front runners. However, SS Handschar aren't far behind with those dope fezzes. We have to go back further in time for some really fancy hats, though. In this humble Guardsman's opinion, there's just not enough fancy hats in modern militaries.
If you're charging a Defended Position without any Suppressive Fire to make your target go DOWN, then you're gonna have a bad time. This change to Close Assaults, making it "Defender First" when attacking a unit in Cover UNLESS they are Down, means that you're going to have to bring TACTICS to Bolt Action, lol. Engineers negating that bonus, is also sensible.
I 100% agree the new assault rules make complete sense, why did they dig defensive positions, if they didn’t give them an advantage? This version will see infantry heavy weapons rule and Tanks be demoted to completely useless, still massively nervous and I’m worried about the new base 4, I think its going to make a huge difference to the game? But we’ll have to see
I think club games will stay at a 1000 points due to time constraints. We meet on a Thursday evening and have jobs in the morning so only have limited play time
That really depends on where you’re at. I’d say to go to local game stores and ask around, or see if there’s Facebook groups. If there’s nothing local to you then you’ll probably have to start your own group
I haven’t played yet, I’m one of the first in my group to get the book. I’m not sure about raising the base to hit from 3-4. I mean now I’m rolling a 4 to hit, cover save, then if I’m lucky…a 4 to kill (regular).
Great stuff...Italians are just so cool...I am actually developing 3 Italian armies, one for east Africa, one for North Africa and 1 for Russia...cant wait to see more of Si's Italians........One of my reasons for the Italians were those hats and that Italian finger gesture!!!!!!!
Seeing as I already had two mortar teams for my Americans and three MMG teams I kitbashed together to take advantage of the 3 for 1 US got on MMGs in 2nd edition, I basically already have a decent Heavy Weapons Platoon ready to go. Add in a pair of Shermans and a bunch of riflemen and I’m set. My Germans will get about the same treatment, except my Panther and Tiger can both come out to the table together.
Since I have armies ranging from big to stupidly big, I'm not really going to add much until after I get 3e in hand. Pretty sure I'll be adding more artillery and AT guns though.
Are the assault rules the same regardless if the defenders have used an order dice already? If so, isn't that a missed opportunity? It would be more realistic if the defenders have already fired or advanced, then the attackers would maybe get first strike, whereas if they had not had an order yet or were on ambush, then the defenders have first strike.
Just came back to watch after reading the rulebook myself. I think the main thing that rubs me the wrong way is that Japan seemed to be uniquely targeted. The CQC changes are fair, a Banzai nerf is fair, but the current state of the IJA is quite depressing. 2 of the 3 nation rules are memes, and the 3rd is Fanatics (the rule is also nerfed). Combine that with the fact that IJA pays largely the same prices as everyone else, has less wargear and options than everyone else, is the only nation that was NOT given an AA/AT Heavy AT Gun (Type 88 75mm where???), and will also be the final army book Q1 of 2026? Kinda hard to be hyped for 3rd Edition when it feels like IJA has been relegated to being a side character. Without the 75mm, all that's left to reasonably deal with heavy tanks are Lunge Mines, who got one-two punched by both losing small team AND the Banzai change. I feel like there were easily other ways to change Banzai without just making it "reroll a fail", even making it more flavorful. "Gain tough fighters only while youre attacking" "Make an order test ignoring pins" "It's only an auto pass if it comes from an officer Snap To Action" I hate to be a downer with complaints, and I'm sure a warlord designer would never even see this, but it blows comparing the IJA's rules with any other faction and knowing its entirely because people in a competitive scene I dont participate in abused a goofy bamboo spear unit and the faction got kneecapped as a result. I'm IJA ride or die, I'll certainly continue playing and would never change factions, it's just an incredible damper on the hype of the new edition. Thanks for putting out great content Mordian o7
@craigstidham3318 Errata/FAQ just dropped today- IJA/SNLF infantry can be given Engineer rules for +1 point/model, but there does not appear to be a way to bring flamethrowers still.
From the interviews and podcasts the rules guys have been on I have heard, that was a big focus. Dropping the pure detriment rules because they aren't fun. I have a feeling the rules will be much better.

That would be an epic game, be sure to record it!
Lol! So its a "what if" game then!
I have settled on Brit Paras and plan to do both a tankless list and an Operation Varsity list that includes tank support.
Tank destroyers/SPGs on ambush are going to absolutely SLAP, and I'm here for it
I am getting my Germans Panzer grenadiers painted and putting camo on my Marder 3...just got into BA last xmas so just finishing up my starter armies.

They can use the FAOs, not the normal spotters

While I only played narrative battles, bringing open topped vehicles was always a big risk.

Bolt Action has a more mature community compared to 40k. This is why people look to counter rather than mimic someone else's style

You can run up to 5 tanks per armored platoon and one armored platoon per rifle platoon.
Rifle platoon is minimum one officer 2 squads.
