I did what every recuperating 40K player does and bought ALL of them during a clearance sale at my LGS. I dropped around 400€ for 6 faction big boxes , 6 faction books, 3 support boxes , 5 vehicles, 2 campaign books and the rulebook. For the price of a single 40K 2000p army I have gotten enough books and minis to host an entire Tournament on my own
Alternate comparison, BA factions vs Guard Regiments… Tallarn = USA They move and shoot. Simple as. EDIT: Rooty tooty, move & shooty Armageddon = Soviet Union You like tanks and infantry? I gotchu fam. Tempestus scions = Germany Everything is a little tougher and hits a little harder, but is way more expensive and fragile for the points. Cadia = Commonwealth Generically can do anything, hits a little more accurately, likes artillery, tends not to just horde infantry. Valhallans = Japan Likes to mass infantry, has mechanics for ignoring morale, tricks new players with weird mechanics that may not have been very well thought out.
Generally speaking, each Fraction is set up similar. Regular troops are 10 points per man and Vet troops are 13 points. They all have access to the same type of mortars, machine guns, snipper , artillery, trucks and flamethrower team all at the same cost. Even Tanks are similar priced. For example a Panzer iv and Sherman Firefly play exactly the same way and cost the same. Its been my experience that each Fraction is evenly balance. When picking a Fraction, pick the one you like. The people who play Bolt Action are a more laid back group of people than other game formats. It's more about fun than winning.
US Airborne did indeed fight the Japanese in the Pacific for example it was US Airborne with Phillipino Guerillas that raided and freed the US Civilians at the Los Banos Prison Camp in the Philippines.
There was lots more action airborne seen in Pacific theatre up to Guadalcanal,Palau, etc. But he gets the leeway as non-American. Most other nations don't care much about 2WW Pacific.
I agree on most of these comparisons except two. I think Americans are more like the eldar. Mid weights and more focused on speed. Then they can sub class to DE for Marines and craftworlds for airborne. Then the Brits could be the SPM. A very all rounders faction that can slightly spec into certain game play.
That would be true but I don’t think k47 has enough support. There’s a lot more variety in bolt action as well as having the plus of being fun for history buffs
From what you have remarked about what Italian Players seem to be like (and my glance at their Armies book), they do have the proper Ork spirit. You are not likely to win any game you play, but you are going to have an absolute blast with the Highs and Lows your army is going to swing in a single turn!
I play Finnish and I can't help but make the parallel between them and my Grey Knights with all the Deep Strike shenanigans, more elite troops, decent tanks. Really felt like I was dropping Paladins in on a Mongolian player I just played against with my Kaukopartio. Downed his Major and entire retinue in one round of shooting!
I find I play my Hungarians like I play my mordians, where I have a large number of good infantry, I have my trusty Turan 2 tank and my sacrificial toldi 1
Strongly considering starting with Island Assault. I recently moved to the Philippines from Alaska and have been reading lots of Pacific Theater books. Plus, I was in the USMC so I want Marines.
pretty late to comment but the US airborne did fight in the Pacific, the army used regiments for small landing operations and the 11th Airborne fought as plain infantry in the Philippines
dear sir, been watching many of your videos and like and your comparisons to 40k. some time ago you mentioned about wishes over command in bolt action / 40k...... i am very old and seem to remember that commisionars in imperial guard had some form of influence to units, ..... i may misremember and havent kept up with the new stuff just out and not a complete rulefreek when playing stuff. . regards . please inform and correct if possible
Rudolph Hess…. But yeah… anyone who believes uncountably that the Germans were bloodthirsty evil genocide monsters…. Should probably learn to think independently. History is written and more importantly re-written by the victor…. It’s weird that no one wants to accept that the west lied to justify executing hundreds of people and stealing billions in profits. In war no one is the “good guy” everyone decides to send their young glory hounds and poor people to kill and die for the wealthy politicians and the corrupt Buisnessmen. There is no winner on a battlefield in real life. There is only the living and the dead.
I love BA and I need to get back into it. Some errors with your hostory. The 11th Airborne did fight in the Pacific, even glider troops. Also, the 6th Rangers. In most US battles in the Pacific, there were some Army involved. There were also battles which were predominantly, almost entirely Army. An example which included the Airborne and Rangers, the Philippines campaign. The Army made up the bulk of the troops in the Pacific. The US airborne also fought a little in North Africa an of course Italy. Do not forget that the Soviets also fraught the Japanese.
It's fun, uses 1st edition rules, but should be easy to transfer most of them to 2nd if you want. We used the airborne deployment rules in a Battle for Venice game
How much historical precedent is there in Bolt Action? Like if you just want to meme and have full will it wind people up or are you always expected to take your list and battle ‘seriously’ or ‘in character’
I thought bolt action was 'the last unpublished 40k version' writen by Priestly, but copyright prevented it being called a SF rules set. Also if you take out all the colour pictures and the product hard sell the rules are only a couple of pages long: if so why is it soooooo expensive?
Hey don't get put of the yanks, I love my US airborne army :) US is still very fun to play, they are only like space marines as in they can do a bit of everything! But they are not boring at all
@@MordianGlory thanks for the reply! And it was a joke for sure, in reality I actually own an M8 greyhound, but what's kind of irking me is I can't find an M24 chaffee that isn't metal!

I don't play either 40k or Bolt Action but somehow felt compelled to listen to this all the way through.
Stick around a while. Mordian's stuff is great.
I don't play either game as well but if I did i'd pick Germans as they have better equipment 😜
Save up some spare cash and pick up a model kit! You dont have to play to be apart of the hobby! :) just collect like me!
1 Year update - Did you get some models yet?

Summed up well. Hungarian, that's cool.
Thank you Mordian! This is a great video to reference my local players to.

Alternatively you go Konflict 47 and get weird ww2 lol
I kind of want to get a wolfenstein mecha-hitler model for that, but I also don’t want to have to explain mecha-hitler to guests
@@FunkBastid If you need to explain Mecha-Hitler, they're not worthy of being guests.

South Park Mexican
Nice comparing of the armies! I’m working on my motivation to get into Bolt Action and this helps.
I think drawing a parallel between 40k and K47 would be a great video, since both are sci fi. Probably a better transition game! Great video!
That would be true but I don’t think k47 has enough support. There’s a lot more variety in bolt action as well as having the plus of being fun for history buffs
Nice overview. Love the connections between 40k and Bolt action! Chaos - Germans etc.
mandatory konflict 47 post, you really need to look at it.

You heard it here first, folks. MG endorses painting your American army blue!
The only paints I need are the red white and blue. MURICA.
Red White and Blue! MURICA!
@@MordianGlory Don't tempt me. I will have to paint up a Captain America guard regiment!
As much bad feelings as I hold against them, I would like to try the IJA. Bayonet charges sound like a lot of fun.
They are a ton of fun, I still prefer them over my germans despite the fact I probably win more games with my Germans
Bayonet charges are not for winning games. They are for tabletop glory.
I find I play my Hungarians like I play my mordians, where I have a large number of good infantry, I have my trusty Turan 2 tank and my sacrificial toldi 1
I like the Winter Wars. The Volga River battles and the amphibious assualt. I like the Winter Soviets.
Strongly considering starting with Island Assault. I recently moved to the Philippines from Alaska and have been reading lots of Pacific Theater books. Plus, I was in the USMC so I want Marines.
Just started a British paratroops army and am loving them, kind of similar to my guard but cooler
Finally More bolt Action!
I have 3 that being Germans, Soviets and finally just getting on the tail end of my US infantry/ tank destroyer, armor section.
The lore for bolt action is cooler than warhammer lore too, and way easier to keep up with! 😁
pretty late to comment but the US airborne did fight in the Pacific, the army used regiments for small landing operations and the 11th Airborne fought as plain infantry in the Philippines

12:31 - Literally the most casual of put downs 😅
Thank you for this ONE!
Great vid, can you do one with more niche armies too?
Rats, Rats, We're the Rats.
Referring to British "if you want to play, quote unquote the good guys"
Lmaooooo what does that MEAN, they ARE the good guys

Soviets are easily my favorite faction. I wanna try out American and Japanese factions too.
Are all forces playable against each other? Would you see the IJA fighting US Airborne? What about stuff like allies vs allies or axis vs axis fights?
Everything can play everything.
Even if it looks odd seeing Japan fight Finland in North Africa
In the grim darkness of the mid-20th century, there is only war.
You can fight what you like where you like. Some match up's are less balanced. Typically early war struggles against late war. Otherwise you're fine
Ironic I find it I made a waffen ss and us airborne force. Classic grudge match.
Have you added any Konflikt 47 to your Bolt Action games? Another draw for 40k/former 40k players, I've found.
40k and Bolt Action aren't the same game?
Not with that attitude, time to Play Konflikt 40k!
Haha great point! I really need to try out K47

13:07 the greater good, obviously

I take it Bolt Action doesn't have ships? I did notice in a gameplay video they have planes, so that's nice.
Is there a finnish start collecting box?
I think Not. There are only Partial Models available at warlord games
Me: Bolt Action? I don't have the money for....*Sees the tanks.* Oh my wallet is in for a beating.
Who's teh most like black templars? Probably teh Japanese. BANZAI!
