You dont have to do a barbell curl in a squat rack if you dont want to. Lets not make it harder than what it is. If you have a barbell on the floor..pick the bar up the same way with the proper grip position and curl the weight up.

Yes, it will help your squat. To avoid bicep tendonitis I do mine using cheat style as Rippetoe showed but with a 4 second negative (2 setsof 10). This makes them balloon in growth, which induces females to openly stare at them in a licentious manner, which then raises my overall confidence for 1 RM squat PR attempts. 🤣

Rip is really the one true voice in the fitness industry!! How the hell did I not find this out, I had been curling completely wrong all these years...no wonder my guns never grew larger at one point and I got wrists and forearm pain!!
Applied the real technique and instantly felt the biceps working at 100% contraction, nil forearm involvement!

Noticed the elbow followed a groove, a neural, on the bottom of your ribcage in the movement. So actually this is not an isolated not compound but opposite on dumbbell.
I wanna do Starting Strength, but substitute Squats and the Deadlift with the barbell bicep curl and standing cable pullover respectively. Does this too get the Rippetoe Tick of Approval?

If there's anything missing from the Starting Strength program, I honestly think it's this. It's an incredibly useful movement pattern that replicates carrying things after you pick them up - boxes, chairs, children, etc. I also think this lift has a greater affect on overall aesthetics than any other, even the deadlift. There's a lot of guys that can pull 600 that don't even look that strong, but if they get their barbell curl up to 135, people will start to notice. If you don't believe me, then take Mark's advice, and just shut up and do 'em.

The bicep is not a shoulder flexor muscle, it's an elbow joint flexor, however it does insert at the shoulder

Can you do the ab-wheel? Sounds silly maybe but it seems very easy to do it wrong, like feeling it in the lower back or shoulders instead of the abs

I'd use an EZ bar, do a body drag curl, do all your back work first and (so) curl smaller weights, or do hammer curls with dumbbells. That are you can do what so many do, and tear a bicep insertion.
I've been doing sets of 10 of these and now my right biceps is injured distally

I do...I'm 60 and have a disabled grandson I have to pickup so I don't want to rip a DBT while doing it...Plus I have my own rack so I can curl in my squat rack and no one can say anything. And of course my whole routine is based around BB curls ...LOL
Plus Biceps just look good and If I'm gonna go in the gym and beat the chit out of myself why not have a few bumps in the right places for it...Always feels good to fill out your clothes

Why is there such a stigma to training biceps? We all want to look better and its easy to recover from working them, so those who want to should.
I'd wager it's because bicep work is primarily considered to be a vanity thing most associated with the dreaded "curlbro" archetype. The kind of guys who want gigantic arms but have twigs for legs. Of the major upper-body muscles, the bicep has the least amount of practical movement application, certainly less so than, say, the shoulders or triceps. But they look really good when built up, so hey, why not? Like you said, they recover quick, and nothing wrong with adding a bit of aesthetic. Plus it can help with chin-ups, which Rip is a fan of.

I can't do these. They cause me elbow pain. Have to stick to dumbbells. I can do weighted chin-ups no problem for whatever reason though, so I'm not too upset about it.
