I learned more from you than all the other big channels combined. I'm going on my first overnight backpacking this week. 4 nights alone. Thank you a lot. I'm from Folsom.
REI tent twinning! I love mine. Thanks for showing this set up. I'm a mummy bag girl as I never want any drafts. Once you've almost frozen to death and shivered all night out there, you never want to ever experience that again. SO happy your channel is doing well. ~RVA~
Those cold nights will ruin you! I’ve had my share, too, and they’re truly miserable. We just got the 4-person version of the Half Dome for car camping and love it! Great tents! Your channel is exploding, girlfriend! I love it!!
@@WanderingSwitchback Aww thank you! It's been a fun journey. You can never have too many tents.... well that is unless you run out of space to store them all when you're not using them. Ha Ha! ~RVA~
I have my X-Mid 2P on its way... never too many tents! 😂 We want to take this show on the road at some point, but we'll need an extra trailer just for gear!
This is really helpful for figuring out how to adjust a quilt to my sleep habits. I bought an extra wide because I sleep like a flamingo. I'm going to have to practice at home. Thank you!
I'm going to use my quilt for the first time this weekend. Your video was perfect timing. I probably would have done the straps incorrectly and had the quilt under the air mattress. thank you.
Thanks Switchback, I'm in good Sam rv park and had just bought a mamattress < I didn't do that, as a gender reveal I'm a man. I meant to type " self inflating but you have to give it a blow or two also. I usually boondock or stealth camp. I've owned the quilt 🎉 purchased @ the slightly used shelf at REI in Flagstaff, Arizona.( they're really nice) Finally I was gonna install just by illustrated instructions on the quilt label. ( I goggled it ) Bottom line is I stressed and couldn't tell who was watching me ( rv and trailers have kinda one way windows .. but they don't work that way @ night ). So I went in my recently purchased 1992 17' Bigfoot trailer and watched your video and really awesome ( I never use that word it popped up! Really appreciated the tutorial. The cat and I have been stuck at this hwy. "campground" for a week waiting for my truck to get fixed and then we'll go camping. If this makes it through the moderators it's been a pleasure writing this. Signed, Dave P.
I hope your trucks gets repaired soon, Dave! Quilts take a little extra skill when they're new, but they're so worth it. I imagine that self-inflating pad keeps you nice and toasty! They're usually pretty well-insulated, at least! I hope your cat is enjoying the adventure!
I would put them in the foot box, and perhaps inside a ditty bag as well just to keep things secure. Another option is to use a hand warmer (I have an electric one, for example) inside of some sort of insulated pack, apart from your quilt.
@@WanderingSwitchback Good ideas, especially the hand warmer. Personally I'm not sure if I'd be able to handle anything in my foot box area except my own feet.
Understood about the foot box, for sure. I was just thinking how I tend to keep my puffy inside my bag/quilt with me. I could put electronics and such inside a ditty bag and wrap them up inside of that with a hand warmer. This'll be my first winter with my quilts, so I'll be experimenting myself!
@@WanderingSwitchback Perhaps you can do an updated video on what you find works for you? I tend to move a bit at night, and a quilt could be an alternative. I still can't get my mind unwrapped around the idea of my skin (arms/legs) against my sleeping pad and the quilt over me. I think I would still prefer a bag with a zipper down to my knees as I tend to sleep warm.
A video about it is a great idea! I will be trying some different things over the next few months, so I can put something together with what works for me (and perhaps cover anything that didn't work!). I had to get used to laying right on my pad, too. I bought a sleeping pad cover, but it's more of a pain than it's worth. I need one of the ones that's more like a slip cover than the one I got (maybe something along the lines of this: www.exped.com/en/products/accessories/mat-cover?sku=7640120114992 ).

What! Plus size backpacker?! Hell yeah, instant follow!
❤️ welcome aboard!

I really appreciate that! Have the best time on your trip!! Hopefully it won't be as hot as Folsom!

I'm glad it was helpful! Sounds like you sleep like I do. The width and flexibility of a quilt really help!
Great video, THANK YOU!
Thank you! 😊

Thanks, Karyn, I hope you love it! Honestly, I would have done them wrong without researching it, too. Sometimes we don’t know what we don’t know!

Just got a new quilt and wished I would have seen this before taking it on trail for the first time. Sharpie marks is a good idea
I hope you stayed warm! How was your quilt?
When using the quilt where do you put your electronics in cold climates? Are you worried they might slip off the pad onto the tent floor and freeze?
