Actually just heard the mother law snooping and fade pregnancy test story yesterday on a different channel and I think it's terrible that somebody would open their house to someone else and they would start going through their stuff and blabbing whatever they see it everyone. She's a terrible person and the fact that her son didn't believe his wife is a whole other issue in my mind.

For story #1 I'd just like to say that woman committed 4 different things that were illegal, being: public disturbance, threatening a law enforcement officer (the victim doesn't have to be law enforcement), Harassment to both the officer and the one worker and resisting law enforcement authority. This can be a minimum of 30 days in jail following a likely fine from the staff and could also result in a higley likely ban from either the mall or the establishment located in the mall. 5. Hi, insomniac here. I call BS on OP. I prepped everything days in advance for my baby brother's sunrise proposal. In the end, I just powered through 30 hours of no sleep and got through 2 more for him. My family and his fiancé know of my issue and it was a team effort of myself and my mom to keep me alert and get a micro nap here and there before. OP is just selfish to not even see a dr or make a plan.
I finally found one that I can agree with. Just one day for her sister and she acted all hurt just because the wedding time doesn't fit her timeline, like everyone has to adjust for her. It's not everyday that your sister gets married. She just wanted her to be there. And laughing at her sister like that means she gave no fuck whatsoever 😂
I say no jerk. She said she comes later but not at 10am. So if i now my sister has sleeping problems and says she comes later that would be fine by me. I woulden't turn in to a Karen and get angry at someone for a medical condition. It's not my health, not my body and so it's not my decision. As for the laughing, i can understand that. When people that now i have sleeping problems ask me to come at a time where i'm usualy sleeping i laugh at them too and say "nope not happening, i will try to be there at xyz but earlyer is not doable". Also everyone is different, if you can deal with less sleep better than others don't expect others to deal as good as you do. It's like alcohol, just cause i can drink a bottle of Rum and i'm fine it doesen't mean others don't lie under the table after a half bottle. Maybe a bad comparision but i think people get what i mean. For me i'm rather without drinking/eating for a few day's than 1 day without sleeping.
Story 5: You are not. You didn't force it to be a priority and straight up said no and your sister must respect that. She has known about your insomnia for years and has ignored it multiple times. I really feel bad for the op. Stay strong!
Nothing wrong with the OP's decision and should not apologize for that but it's really sad. I actually experience that getting an invite but have a work before my sister's wedding day and still agreed as that's my sister's special day and it's only happening once so sacrifice some sleep wasn't that bad. So working night then attending at their wedding, had a great time meeting the in-laws.
I don't think the OP is in the wrong, insomnia suck and I have experienced the struggle of family not understanding that once I am asleep there is no "Oh! I'll just wake up in a few hours!" it is something that can take years to make even a little difference in the sleep schedule. So in short I don't think the op is in the wrong especially since the sister and mother should know most out of everyone else that the op has insomnia

The last one is the only one I disagree with people with insomnia can pass out if they don't stick to their schedule that works for them if she ended up passing out in the middle of her sister's wedding, then that would ruin the wedding anyway I don't know if hers is that extreme, but that would be a reason for her, not to 10, it is also very difficult for people with insomnia to even wake up in the first place insomnia is not just a difficulty falling asleep, it is a difficulty of sleep in general, waking up or falling asleep are both very difficult for people with insomnia sorry if this seems repetitive. @@comradegato1482 I disagre, insomnia is torture. I have it since i was about 16 year's old i'm now 29. Of course she could have atended to the weding at cost of her own health but why should she. Her sister now's she has insomnia so it's more like a Karen thing to get angry at a person with a medical condition that forces her to sleep over day and not night. Also she didn't say she doesen't want to atend the weding at all but just not at morning. A normal person would have said "I'm sad about that and would wish me you come at 10am but i respect your desicion and happy you come at least for the rest of the day" in my opinion.
Last Story: OP not the jerk. People have different sleeping schedules, your body decides when to sleep on its own. Like, even if I decided to sleep at an earlier time, I can't because I just can't sleep. People really be forgetting how bad insomnia is for other people, OP tried to compromise saying that she'll just attend the wedding later but the sister refused. If your sister isn't willing to compromise then it isn't really worth it. Even if it's the OP's sister's wedding, it's Op's decision whether she wants to go to the wedding or not. Again, she tried to compromise but the sister isn't willing to accept it.
Yeah its really infuriating. I once had a time where i just couldnt sleep because of health related issues. I was physically incapable. Ive had many broken limbs and none of it hurt more than that insomniac Period. It started off as a mild discomfort with headache, and quickly turned into torture. It was agony. People need to become more informed that insomnia isnt just "oh you have to lie down longer to start sleeping" imagine youre hungry, but physically incapable of eating, eben tho you have the food right in front of you. imagine being thirsty but being physically incapable of drinking, even tho you have the water. Not only the physical Problems that it comes with. The mental Problems as well i actually started hallucinating due to lack of sleep. Ive never done drugs, but from what ive heard people say, happens during a bad trip, i can relate through these sleep depravation hallucinations.

Wow i didn't think i ever get to talk with people that have insomnia. I have it since about i was 15-16 and it's hell. Back when i was young (19-20) i needed to work early shift stay up 4am and come home at 2pm, i usualy got to bed at 5pm and sleept deeply straight till 4am. i needed it, if i didn't sleep that long my brain didn't function next day till at least 9am at work. And i needed a functioning brain for programming machins to mill and drill etc. I got pill's and stuff to "fix" it but nothing worked, my default sleeping time is from 4-6am to 2pm. I was in rehab. clinic for depressions that also got worse by not sleeping and they had fixed times when you needed to wake up, at 6:30am. So i was there for 4 week's and sleept about 4-5h a day. The day i came home i sleept for 24h straight. Not being able to sleep is torture. I rather would live without water/food than without sleep
The story of the evil aunt and all of that remind me of a story that happened not to long ago. Unfortunately it’s a second hand story that my grandfather has told me. Basically, my grandparents live now at the city, but my grandpa is from a small town where his sister, nephews and nieces still live, and the thing is, that him, being the only boy between three siblings got the family house (his sister got her aunt’s house and I don’t really know about the other sister). My grandpa used to go to the town almost every two months and spend a week there, as he also has some terrains with olive-trees and has a deal with an olive-oil maker in the area, so basically, he used to go pretty often. But now he doesn’t drive anymore, and only goes with a family friend and spend less time there, so when he arrives he wants to have the house prepared so he won’t have time to clean it up and all of that. Usually he hires someone to go and clean it up, but the last time something happened. It looks like the lady that went there smoked and in some way set in fire the first floor of the house (for context, the house was made entirely of wood). The firefighters managed to put out the fire but the damage was already done. Then my grandfather asked his sister if she knew anyone in the town who he could hire to repair it, and she said that there was only one person in the entire town who was in any way qualified to do it, as he was the only builder(? there. So my grandpa contacted him and it looked like he was a really good friend of my grandfather’s nephew and that he was willing to do it. The next thing my grandfather knew was that, yeah, the damage was repaired, but some old furniture disappeared. He was angry but thought that maybe it was damaged and couldn’t be saved, so let it be. When he went again more furniture had disappeared and in that moment he went mad. He asked his sister about it, but she didn’t knew anything and told him to talk to her son because he was the one with his spare keys. I don’t really know what my uncle said to my grandpa, but he was not happy. He told my uncle to never let his friend close to his (my grandfather’s) house again and return to the city. He has gone there many times since then and all seemed okay, but last time he went my great grandmother’s centennial rocking chair disappeared. He went to his sister again and told her that his excuse of a son and his friend have been robbing his family’s legacy. My grand aunt(? was angry with my uncle but also tried to explain that he was going through a really bad divorce and he was not in the mental condition to be confronted for it. Then my grandpa returned to the city and hasn’t gone again there. He has changed the locks and only him and his child have the keys. That’s basically where it ends and it makes me so mad that he didn’t do anything about it, but when I told him he just said that the guy had robbed to half of the town and that the cops have not done anything towards it and that he doesn’t want to get into any mess. He also said that as it is now, he has no nephew and that he prefers to not talk to him or even see his face for the rest of his live. I’m so frustrated about it and I wish that I could do anything, but I’m just a kid and I don’t have nothing to do with that problem
Story 1: People like this make me wish we'd here about an officer going overboard and the Karen getting handcuffed or tasered or something. Also, i dont know about where the OP is (england), but i know here (canada) at times, some security companies not only employ off-duty police but also have as much rights to detain someone as a police officer does. The mom-in-law was busted, wake up bro. Story 5: I think that there's something not being told here, whether its relevant to this story or not. If the sister is getting that mad at the OP here, there's something else to it, other then just 'insomnia'. I think the OP could try to work around the schedule, but shouldn't really be required to go to anything other the the ceremony if they dont want to.
Story 3 gotta say we went to the "Didn't do anything path just showed the lawyer the documents" and somehow we got everything my step-grandmother stole from grandpa (whose lands are in dad's name he did that before he died but dad was too busy but still paying the taxes) but I feel bad for the companies that bought land from her coz they had lost so much in that one moment but then she she was destroyed financially even her kids which are my aunts and uncles who were so kind to us and yeah we did help them pay em all tho
Last Story: No one should be guilt tripped in doing something that they dont want/cant do. And most People with a 9-5 Job would call her indeed crazy to make it at 2 AM (Guess sister wouldnt come when OP did this.) There are also People that work longer than that.
Last story : The OP actually thinking that her sister should have planned her weeding according to her sleeping habits is unreal to me : if you are that crazy, you place isn't at any wedding, but in an psychiatric institution!

Last story- Insomnia is no excuse with how many sleep aids are available these days. I have bad Insomnia, i still function. Judging by the dismissive attitude, OP wasn't planning to go anyways and is using "wah I'm tired" as an excuse.
For the last story, I feel that it could be roughed out to go to the wedding but I understand why the op would not want to. I think it’s perfectly reasonable to arrive later or at least try to arrive a bit earlier
it wouldnt be possible at all to just "rough it out" dude, shes going to bed at 7 or 8am and the wedding starts at around 10 with the ceremony at noon (12), no one is ever going to go to an event with only 2 hours of sleep and expect to survive the day without passing out or hurting themselves, her not going is better than actually going at all at that point because she'll just be tired and passing out and the way these people act about her i wouldnt be surprised if they would start gossiping and acting like her "passing out" is just trying to get attention and take away from her sisters big day so arriving to the afterparty was reasonable as she wouldve actually ya know had plenty of sleep at that point? but even ariving earlier is impossible because again not enough sleep, if she arrived for the ceremony at minimum thats 3 to 3 1/2 hours of sleep which isnt much better
I would have asked the cousin where he purchased the necklace cause it looks just like the Grandpa's and they need to tell the police cause it was reported stolen.
Story3: the moment karen said she wanted the whole table for her family, I would have said :"I do not give a fuck if your whole family freeze to death outside, and u want me to give my seat to you?"

On the last story I can kind of see where the op is coming from because I have pretty bad insomnia. I can guarantee that she wants to go but she can’t unless she wants only a few hours of sleep and it really does look as though she’s trying to make it to celebrate the engagement of her sister but I don’t necessarily see her as the jerk. Last story. NTA. Due to my ADHD i have a late biological schedule and insomnia, meaning i will only start creating melatonin around 1am and maybe be asleep by 3. This makes it impossible for me to wake up at 8 or 9. Yes, i can work around it by trying to tire myself out to the point of exhaustion so i fall asleep by 11 but i will feel like a mess the next few days with having really bad pains and heart burns. Insomnia is no joke and if OP is properly diagnosed and is dealing with this since the age of 15, sister should know this and work around it by having a late breakfast or a brunch at 12. But it sounds like sister doesn't want OP there and is using this as an excuse. It's like saying you want your wheelchair bound family member at your event but host it at a place only accessible by stairs
story #5 not a jerk, Its not the op's fault that she has insomnia as stated in the story she said that she had really bad insomnia since puberty, so if its a time where she cant go to the wedding then she cant go, even if she were to go to make her sister happy she would most likely end up sleeping at the wedding which would probably make the sister even more mad that she showed up just to sleep and would make the situation bigger

No, OP is not a jeck. People don't of the 9-5 work that OP have to go to after the wedding. Is not good for her health. Let's say she sleeps at 6am and wake up at 9am. And she will be awake for 20+ hrs until she gets home to sleep the next day. And this will damage her performance at work as well as she drives which will be dangerous.

If it's just one of those deals where she'll feel like shit for the day after while she stays up to try to get her sleep schedule back on track then yes she should just grit her teeth and deal with it. but if OP has a snippy attitude at the wedding then sister doesn't get to get mad about it cause that's what sister is gonna have to deal with forcing OP to go outside her sleep schedule for her. BUT! if it's one of the more intense versions of insomnia where OP could literally (for example) pass out and faceplant to the ground out of nowhere or faceplant onto a fork in the middle of eating without the proper amount of sleep then sister is the jerk because she's risking her siblings safety just because she doesn't want to compromise. Just because sister is getting married doesn't mean that everyone is suddenly her slave and it's her way or the highway.
Last story: OP was definitely a jerk. I went to my brother's wedding at a city that's 3 hours away, while working night shifts and having a single night off to attend to it. On top of that, I have sleeping problems (though not as bad as OP's insomnia) and I was fresh out of a relationship (my ex had broken up only 3 days prior to the wedding) So I was sad, depressed and tired, and yet, I happily bought some train tickets to go to where he lives, because I knew it would mean the world to him to see his entire family (me, our parents, our half-sister) to his wedding. This was HIS big moment, and I felt he deserved to be hapoy, even if it meant that I would be even more tired than I usually am.
Totally agree, i actually struggled with insomnia in college and somtimes would be up 2-3 days but i still made a effort to travel to my family on holidays and see them. I still have issues with insomnia to this day and some days i can only sleep 4 hours or wake up every 30 minutes but i still refuse to sleep till the afternoon no matter how tired i am.
I actually can understand both sides tho in the story. Yes the op should go but there might be a reason for them not wanting to go, they never really explained the relationship between there sister and them. Yes its the sisters big day but for some waking up at that time would be near impossible, then as the narrator said staying awake all night just to do so if iffy for me. The op already has a bad sleeping schedule so staying up all day will make it worse for them. People say family comes first no that is a lie the only one to come first in your life is yourself. No one else in this world will make the same prints in the sand you do. Staying up for a long period of time is bad for health and the mind set. It might be a family members big day and they tried to compromise with the sister to at least show up. Family is important but taking care of yourself is more important in the end. Op not a jerk for me cuz they tried to talk and work something out!
It's not always that simple I understand where op is coming from as I also suffer from extreme sleep issues growing up I was forced to suck it up and attend gatherings. Trying to drastically alter a barely functional and unhealthy sleep cycle in that way does more then cause you to feel more tired than usual it leaves you in an almost delirious state throughout the day. If you struggle with other mental issues like social anxiety or depression they can become heightened extremely by a shift in sleep schedule making something like a wedding or social gathering is almost crippling to attend. As an adult the last time I had a social gathering to attend I needed to book a week off work so I could have adequate time to adjust to the lack of sleep and be able to catch up on sleep so I can return to work capable of working. Not everyone can do that so I can understand the difficulty op could be facing where while they likely want to attend they can't mentally justify doing so and risking impacting their job performance as I know it's not easy to find a good job that fits within a abnormal sleep schedule.
Story 5 is NTA. How many times I have to remind people in my life of my insomnia and allergies that they have no reason to not know is insulting. You don’t demand someone to do something you know they can’t do and act entitled to their time and situation. I’m allergic to onions. My family knows this and still gets mad when I refuse to eat food they made that has it in there.

My dads body wasn’t even cold and his 2 of his sisters cleaned his house out. He had two antique bikes a bunch of really expensive guitars and fishing gear, loads of jewelry, and two classic cars. We didn’t get revenge, but they both died not long after he did -drug overdoses- 🤷🏾♀️
For story 3 something similar happened to my family my cousin who’s now in jail was supposed to be taking care of my now late grandmother but all he would do was play video games. After my dad moved my grandmother to a assisted living facility my cousin broke into my grandmother’s house (my dad had changed the locks at this point) and stole a ton of stuff which he sold and he used the money to buy drugs.
Story 5: I definitely agree that OP is the jerk since they are making a LOT of excuses for why they shouldn’t go. “Oh, I work freelance at weird hours. Oh, I have Insomnia. Oh, I want her to apologize first.” It’s just excuses. The only thing I will disagree with is the idea that people working 9-5 would be willing to get up and go at 2am to events. I often work that myself on the weekends (my shifts start at 5pm, and end anywhere from 11:30 to 1:30, depending on the customers, how busy we were, and other factors). My family will then make plans to go out anywhere from 8-10am for a trip out of town, or to go get breakfast/brunch. I want to go to those, but it’s rare I actually get to because I’m incapable of waking up on time, getting ready so esrly, or sometimes am in pain still from my job. That’s about all I disagree with in the end.
I think the 9-5 people would be willing to arrange it for something like a wedding, where you have months of advance notice and therefore can arrange time off as needed. Eta: it would suck, but if it was a family member, I'd still want to be there
So, you at first part saying that op is a jerk, but in the second part say that it's normal for people with not normal working time could not go to events at such time. And yes, insomnia is a thing and it's hard to reschedule your sleep time once you break it. And the work was such to fit sleep schedule. It's not another excuse. In addition op said that it was possible to get there at the after-party. I'm currently writing it at 7:26 am before fall asleep to wake up feeling like shit at 12. This is an addictive thing.

For story #1 I'd just like to say that woman committed 4 different things that were illegal, being: public disturbance, threatening a law enforcement officer (the victim doesn't have to be law enforcement), Harassment to both the officer and the one worker and resisting law enforcement authority. This can be a minimum of 30 days in jail following a likely fine from the staff and could also result in a higley likely ban from either the mall or the establishment located in the mall. 5. Hi, insomniac here. I call BS on OP. I prepped everything days in advance for my baby brother's sunrise proposal. In the end, I just powered through 30 hours of no sleep and got through 2 more for him. My family and his fiancé know of my issue and it was a team effort of myself and my mom to keep me alert and get a micro nap here and there before. OP is just selfish to not even see a dr or make a plan.

I finally found one that I can agree with. Just one day for her sister and she acted all hurt just because the wedding time doesn't fit her timeline, like everyone has to adjust for her. It's not everyday that your sister gets married. She just wanted her to be there. And laughing at her sister like that means she gave no fuck whatsoever 😂
I say no jerk. She said she comes later but not at 10am. So if i now my sister has sleeping problems and says she comes later that would be fine by me. I woulden't turn in to a Karen and get angry at someone for a medical condition. It's not my health, not my body and so it's not my decision. As for the laughing, i can understand that. When people that now i have sleeping problems ask me to come at a time where i'm usualy sleeping i laugh at them too and say "nope not happening, i will try to be there at xyz but earlyer is not doable". Also everyone is different, if you can deal with less sleep better than others don't expect others to deal as good as you do. It's like alcohol, just cause i can drink a bottle of Rum and i'm fine it doesen't mean others don't lie under the table after a half bottle. Maybe a bad comparision but i think people get what i mean. For me i'm rather without drinking/eating for a few day's than 1 day without sleeping.
Story 5: You are not. You didn't force it to be a priority and straight up said no and your sister must respect that. She has known about your insomnia for years and has ignored it multiple times. I really feel bad for the op. Stay strong!
Nothing wrong with the OP's decision and should not apologize for that but it's really sad. I actually experience that getting an invite but have a work before my sister's wedding day and still agreed as that's my sister's special day and it's only happening once so sacrifice some sleep wasn't that bad. So working night then attending at their wedding, had a great time meeting the in-laws.

I don't think the OP is in the wrong, insomnia suck and I have experienced the struggle of family not understanding that once I am asleep there is no "Oh! I'll just wake up in a few hours!" it is something that can take years to make even a little difference in the sleep schedule. So in short I don't think the op is in the wrong especially since the sister and mother should know most out of everyone else that the op has insomnia

@@comradegato1482 I disagre, insomnia is torture. I have it since i was about 16 year's old i'm now 29. Of course she could have atended to the weding at cost of her own health but why should she. Her sister now's she has insomnia so it's more like a Karen thing to get angry at a person with a medical condition that forces her to sleep over day and not night. Also she didn't say she doesen't want to atend the weding at all but just not at morning. A normal person would have said "I'm sad about that and would wish me you come at 10am but i respect your desicion and happy you come at least for the rest of the day" in my opinion.

Last Story: OP not the jerk. People have different sleeping schedules, your body decides when to sleep on its own. Like, even if I decided to sleep at an earlier time, I can't because I just can't sleep. People really be forgetting how bad insomnia is for other people, OP tried to compromise saying that she'll just attend the wedding later but the sister refused. If your sister isn't willing to compromise then it isn't really worth it. Even if it's the OP's sister's wedding, it's Op's decision whether she wants to go to the wedding or not. Yeah its really infuriating. I once had a time where i just couldnt sleep because of health related issues. I was physically incapable. Ive had many broken limbs and none of it hurt more than that insomniac Period. It started off as a mild discomfort with headache, and quickly turned into torture. It was agony. People need to become more informed that insomnia isnt just "oh you have to lie down longer to start sleeping" imagine youre hungry, but physically incapable of eating, eben tho you have the food right in front of you. imagine being thirsty but being physically incapable of drinking, even tho you have the water. Not only the physical Problems that it comes with. The mental Problems as well i actually started hallucinating due to lack of sleep. Ive never done drugs, but from what ive heard people say, happens during a bad trip, i can relate through these sleep depravation hallucinations.

Wow i didn't think i ever get to talk with people that have insomnia. I have it since about i was 15-16 and it's hell. Back when i was young (19-20) i needed to work early shift stay up 4am and come home at 2pm, i usualy got to bed at 5pm and sleept deeply straight till 4am. i needed it, if i didn't sleep that long my brain didn't function next day till at least 9am at work. And i needed a functioning brain for programming machins to mill and drill etc. I got pill's and stuff to "fix" it but nothing worked, my default sleeping time is from 4-6am to 2pm. I was in rehab. clinic for depressions that also got worse by not sleeping and they had fixed times when you needed to wake up, at 6:30am. So i was there for 4 week's and sleept about 4-5h a day. The day i came home i sleept for 24h straight. Not being able to sleep is torture. I rather would live without water/food than without sleep
story 3: I feel bad for the op cause they couldn't get back the necklace, but at least that f-ed family got what they deserved
The story of the evil aunt and all of that remind me of a story that happened not to long ago. Unfortunately it’s a second hand story that my grandfather has told me.
Basically, my grandparents live now at the city, but my grandpa is from a small town where his sister, nephews and nieces still live, and the thing is, that him, being the only boy between three siblings got the family house (his sister got her aunt’s house and I don’t really know about the other sister). My grandpa used to go to the town almost every two months and spend a week there, as he also has some terrains with olive-trees and has a deal with an olive-oil maker in the area, so basically, he used to go pretty often. But now he doesn’t drive anymore, and only goes with a family friend and spend less time there, so when he arrives he wants to have the house prepared so he won’t have time to clean it up and all of that. Usually he hires someone to go and clean it up, but the last time something happened.
It looks like the lady that went there smoked and in some way set in fire the first floor of the house (for context, the house was made entirely of wood). The firefighters managed to put out the fire but the damage was already done. Then my grandfather asked his sister if she knew anyone in the town who he could hire to repair it, and she said that there was only one person in the entire town who was in any way qualified to do it, as he was the only builder(? there.
So my grandpa contacted him and it looked like he was a really good friend of my grandfather’s nephew and that he was willing to do it.
The next thing my grandfather knew was that, yeah, the damage was repaired, but some old furniture disappeared. He was angry but thought that maybe it was damaged and couldn’t be saved, so let it be.
When he went again more furniture had disappeared and in that moment he went mad.
He asked his sister about it, but she didn’t knew anything and told him to talk to her son because he was the one with his spare keys.
I don’t really know what my uncle said to my grandpa, but he was not happy. He told my uncle to never let his friend close to his (my grandfather’s) house again and return to the city.
He has gone there many times since then and all seemed okay, but last time he went my great grandmother’s centennial rocking chair disappeared.
He went to his sister again and told her that his excuse of a son and his friend have been robbing his family’s legacy. My grand aunt(? was angry with my uncle but also tried to explain that he was going through a really bad divorce and he was not in the mental condition to be confronted for it. Then my grandpa returned to the city and hasn’t gone again there. He has changed the locks and only him and his child have the keys.
That’s basically where it ends and it makes me so mad that he didn’t do anything about it, but when I told him he just said that the guy had robbed to half of the town and that the cops have not done anything towards it and that he doesn’t want to get into any mess. He also said that as it is now, he has no nephew and that he prefers to not talk to him or even see his face for the rest of his live. I’m so frustrated about it and I wish that I could do anything, but I’m just a kid and I don’t have nothing to do with that problem

Also, i dont know about where the OP is (england), but i know here (canada) at times, some security companies not only employ off-duty police but also have as much rights to detain someone as a police officer does. Story 5: I think that there's something not being told here, whether its relevant to this story or not. If the sister is getting that mad at the OP here, there's something else to it, other then just 'insomnia'. I think the OP could try to work around the schedule, but shouldn't really be required to go to anything other the the ceremony if they dont want to.
In the first story, considering you are a full police constable, you simlly performed your duties and Quickly resolved it.
Story 3 gotta say we went to the "Didn't do anything path just showed the lawyer the documents" and somehow we got everything my step-grandmother stole from grandpa (whose lands are in dad's name he did that before he died but dad was too busy but still paying the taxes) but I feel bad for the companies that bought land from her coz they had lost so much in that one moment but then she she was destroyed financially even her kids which are my aunts and uncles who were so kind to us and yeah we did help them pay em all tho

For the last story, I feel that it could be roughed out to go to the wedding but I understand why the op would not want to. I think it’s perfectly reasonable to arrive later or at least try to arrive a bit earlier
it wouldnt be possible at all to just "rough it out" dude, shes going to bed at 7 or 8am and the wedding starts at around 10 with the ceremony at noon (12), no one is ever going to go to an event with only 2 hours of sleep and expect to survive the day without passing out or hurting themselves, her not going is better than actually going at all at that point because she'll just be tired and passing out and the way these people act about her i wouldnt be surprised if they would start gossiping and acting like her "passing out" is just trying to get attention and take away from her sisters big day
so arriving to the afterparty was reasonable as she wouldve actually ya know had plenty of sleep at that point? but even ariving earlier is impossible because again not enough sleep, if she arrived for the ceremony at minimum thats 3 to 3 1/2 hours of sleep which isnt much better

On the last story I can kind of see where the op is coming from because I have pretty bad insomnia. I can guarantee that she wants to go but she can’t unless she wants only a few hours of sleep and it really does look as though she’s trying to make it to celebrate the engagement of her sister but I don’t necessarily see her as the jerk. (This is just my opinion I am not asking anyone to agree with me I am just stating what I see the situation is like)

Last story. NTA. Due to my ADHD i have a late biological schedule and insomnia, meaning i will only start creating melatonin around 1am and maybe be asleep by 3. This makes it impossible for me to wake up at 8 or 9.
Yes, i can work around it by trying to tire myself out to the point of exhaustion so i fall asleep by 11 but i will feel like a mess the next few days with having really bad pains and heart burns.
Insomnia is no joke and if OP is properly diagnosed and is dealing with this since the age of 15, sister should know this and work around it by having a late breakfast or a brunch at 12. But it sounds like sister doesn't want OP there and is using this as an excuse.
It's like saying you want your wheelchair bound family member at your event but host it at a place only accessible by stairs

story #5 not a jerk, Its not the op's fault that she has insomnia as stated in the story she said that she had really bad insomnia since puberty, so if its a time where she cant go to the wedding then she cant go, even if she were to go to make her sister happy she would most likely end up sleeping at the wedding which would probably make the sister even more mad that she showed up just to sleep and would make the situation bigger

Let's say she sleeps at 6am and wake up at 9am. And she will be awake for 20+ hrs until she gets home to sleep the next day. And this will damage her performance at work as well as she drives which will be dangerous.

BUT! if it's one of the more intense versions of insomnia where OP could literally (for example) pass out and faceplant to the ground out of nowhere or faceplant onto a fork in the middle of eating without the proper amount of sleep then sister is the jerk because she's risking her siblings safety just because she doesn't want to compromise. Just because sister is getting married doesn't mean that everyone is suddenly her slave and it's her way or the highway.
Last story:
OP was definitely a jerk. I went to my brother's wedding at a city that's 3 hours away, while working night shifts and having a single night off to attend to it.
On top of that, I have sleeping problems (though not as bad as OP's insomnia) and I was fresh out of a relationship (my ex had broken up only 3 days prior to the wedding)
So I was sad, depressed and tired, and yet, I happily bought some train tickets to go to where he lives, because I knew it would mean the world to him to see his entire family (me, our parents, our half-sister) to his wedding. This was HIS big moment, and I felt he deserved to be hapoy, even if it meant that I would be even more tired than I usually am.
Totally agree, i actually struggled with insomnia in college and somtimes would be up 2-3 days but i still made a effort to travel to my family on holidays and see them. I still have issues with insomnia to this day and some days i can only sleep 4 hours or wake up every 30 minutes but i still refuse to sleep till the afternoon no matter how tired i am.
I actually can understand both sides tho in the story. Yes the op should go but there might be a reason for them not wanting to go, they never really explained the relationship between there sister and them. Yes its the sisters big day but for some waking up at that time would be near impossible, then as the narrator said staying awake all night just to do so if iffy for me. The op already has a bad sleeping schedule so staying up all day will make it worse for them. People say family comes first no that is a lie the only one to come first in your life is yourself. It's not always that simple I understand where op is coming from as I also suffer from extreme sleep issues growing up I was forced to suck it up and attend gatherings. Trying to drastically alter a barely functional and unhealthy sleep cycle in that way does more then cause you to feel more tired than usual it leaves you in an almost delirious state throughout the day.
If you struggle with other mental issues like social anxiety or depression they can become heightened extremely by a shift in sleep schedule making something like a wedding or social gathering is almost crippling to attend.
As an adult the last time I had a social gathering to attend I needed to book a week off work so I could have adequate time to adjust to the lack of sleep and be able to catch up on sleep so I can return to work capable of working. Not everyone can do that so I can understand the difficulty op could be facing where while they likely want to attend they can't mentally justify doing so and risking impacting their job performance as I know it's not easy to find a good job that fits within a abnormal sleep schedule.

Story 5 is NTA. How many times I have to remind people in my life of my insomnia and allergies that they have no reason to not know is insulting. You don’t demand someone to do something you know they can’t do and act entitled to their time and situation. I’m allergic to onions. My family knows this and still gets mad when I refuse to eat food they made that has it in there.

My dads body wasn’t even cold and his 2 of his sisters cleaned his house out. He had two antique bikes a bunch of really expensive guitars and fishing gear, loads of jewelry, and two classic cars. We didn’t get revenge, but they both died not long after he did -drug overdoses- 🤷🏾♀️
For story 3 something similar happened to my family my cousin who’s now in jail was supposed to be taking care of my now late grandmother but all he would do was play video games. After my dad moved my grandmother to a assisted living facility my cousin broke into my grandmother’s house (my dad had changed the locks at this point) and stole a ton of stuff which he sold and he used the money to buy drugs.
Story 5: I definitely agree that OP is the jerk since they are making a LOT of excuses for why they shouldn’t go. “Oh, I work freelance at weird hours. Oh, I have Insomnia. Oh, I want her to apologize first.” It’s just excuses.
The only thing I will disagree with is the idea that people working 9-5 would be willing to get up and go at 2am to events. I often work that myself on the weekends (my shifts start at 5pm, and end anywhere from 11:30 to 1:30, depending on the customers, how busy we were, and other factors). My family will then make plans to go out anywhere from 8-10am for a trip out of town, or to go get breakfast/brunch. I want to go to those, but it’s rare I actually get to because I’m incapable of waking up on time, getting ready so esrly, or sometimes am in pain still from my job.
