  • Getting started in Subsistence can be overwhelming. The world may not be that big but it can be tricky and is one heck of a grind. This is one of my favorite sandbox PvE games to date so I thought I'd put together a guide with some tips and tricks that I've learned along the way (often the hard way!).
    On day one we will be covering temporary shelters, fires, fishing, grinding and more.

    The Infected is a good game, seasonal changes, has an awesome truck that you can drive in 1st person. Stunning visuals, electricity, hunting, spear fishing, mining with ore extractors. You can disable the predators, and the "Vambies" (Zombie Vampire). The base building will keep you busy, and once you get the truck, that's when the game gets a bit more fun.

    I just bought this game, wanted to see how others were playing it, because so far it's been bear and dog simulator, and I can hardly find the plant fibers, but I'll keep trying. I see others succeeding, so I must be doing something wrong.

      Hi Harold! It can be difficult and super frustrating finding thing. I find it helps if you focus on finding one thing at a time. When you go out concentrate on looking for the fibers. Try running around the northern lake because they are more visible when they are on the sand! Keep at it!

    Great review! I love this game it is soo addictive and CG the dev does such a good job on updates and refinements. Some basic tips the day cycle is 30 mins and the night cycle is 7 mins so I have a clock in front of me and I look at the time when the sun comes up and then I run out for 15 mins then turn and come back. If you look east and raise your head as high as you can you can see when you are at midday and then turn west and look up and you can gauge how much time you have left. Day one for me is always loot as much as possible so you can build; platform, fire, fire starers, fishing rod and chest. If you learn the map you can run grub tree to grub tree and get a good load. Where you were in the valley by your lake is amazing for fibres and loot. Looking forward to a good series and thanks for taking the time to make these vids. Maybe look at a series that breaks down specific tips area by area such food, weapons, map locations etc?

      Thanks for the feedback! Those are some great tips and points! I agree about the devs.
      I've always meant to time the days and nights but always forget haha. Thanks for letting me know!
      Thanks for the advice! I will try to come up with a way to break things down like you suggested!

    The game gave you 2 arrows on day one. You even caught a chicken giving you more feathers for arrows. I have no idea why you didn't build a bow. You had everything you needed for it. I start killing every chicken I see. Kill a chicken, get two feathers, make two arrows, Kill a chicken... Rinse repeat. You just continuously build your supply of arrows. You do this while your grinding on finding crates, harvesting wood fibers etc. I try to have three small game to get me through the night in the early game. Once you build up your arrow count a bit, start shooting rabbits to get cloth, and build a shotgun.

      Great points! I've always focused on fishing during the night for food because I find the nights kinda boring at the start. I honestly forgot about making a bow and a shotgun while focusing on chatting about my shelter. I will give that a try next time I restart....which will likely be sooner then later lol.
      Thanks again!

      How to shoot the arrows with a controller? Which keys do you use?

  • @gamingmimi2
    @gamingmimi2 Год назад +1

    Great tutorial, thank you. Would you provide a screen shot / list of controller keys used to “auto chop” wood from trees, shoot bow / guns, & catching fish. Can’t read the pop up hints to small.

      Thanks for the comment! Here are the main key binds below (I'm don't know if I can drop a screen shot). You can find the complete list in the game menu under "Controls". As far as I know there is no "auto chop"
      Fire (Used weapon/tool etc): Left Mouse Button
      Reload: R
      Switch Ammo Type: Left Alt
      Next/previous weapon: Mouse scroll up/down
      Aim Down Sights: Right Mouse Button
      Use: E
      Inventory: Tab
      Map: M
      Flashlight: L

      Thank you, good starting point. I got all the errant key mappings restored except LEFT ALT as the virtual SteamOS keyboard does not show an ALT key. Any way to identify what keyboard combo emulates the ALT key?

    • @gettingstarted8931
      @gettingstarted8931  Год назад

      @@gamingmimi2 Hmmm. I'm not sure. I've never used that setup. You may just have to google or youtube that keyboard. I don't switch ammo anyway. If I want a different ammo I just load a second rifle or shotgun. They are cheap to make at that point of the game.

    Pretty sure you are supposed to be able to, at least if you agro it from far enough away.

      Not sure. Someone else said they can without jumping but I die every time. Most the time one hit will break my bone and then it's game over. I cam make a video specifically about that.

      you don't start with the pistol in multi, just in single player.
