Subsistence Survival Guide 3: The Hunters (Basics)

- Hey there guys and welcome to Subsistence. In part 3 we take a look at the options available for Hunter behavior andlook at what the hunters do when they first spawn into the game.
I will do a follow up to the Subistence guide if there is enough interest, looking at the progress of the Hunters and challenges they can cause.

"Subsistence is a sandbox, first person, solo or co-op, PvE open-world survival game. Struggle to build a base and gear-up in the hostile environment. Defend yourself from wildlife and AI hunters (who also build bases in the world). Progress your base technology for advanced item crafting and upgrades. Farm crops, raise small animals and harvest and refine resources to rise in dominance in the world. Sorry for the slight dip in video quality, recently switched from Vegas movie edit 13 to Vegas Pro 15 and lost my render presets, so having to adjust it again. Anyway hope the video helps, I will do an additional follow up if there is enough interest :)
I am late to the party, I have been watching development and the last sale was excuse enough to take the plunge. I have killed one Hunter so far, it was a mess. I had to rush him with the axe in the end. He had some gears but I am not ready to put those to use.
I am still trying to figure out the intricacies of the crafting system. I think I have it sorted by virtue of building every damn thing I can with the resources available. I assume anything I cant build yet will be revealed at that time.
Just new playing the game after work, needing a relaxing survival game with some challenges. Had to see some of the beginners videos you made. Thank you for the advice. Looking forward to diving in!

Thank you for doing this series. I have not tried with the hunters turned on, but they seem very interesting to add into the gameplay. I would love to see a map added in and the water well back in. Nice video, really enjoyed it.
Thank you. The map is still in development from what I understand, it is not known if he will create a map once he has finished. The water well was a temporary feature before he added more lakes and rivers in, I'm not sure if he will add it back in since water supply is now plentyful.

Ah ok, makes sense. For a game that is still in development, I think it is just wonderfully done and thought out. It is very enjoyable.

I just sneak up behind a solo hunter and hatchet him to the face and get his stuff I farm him every time I noticed he spawned back.
Can work sometimes, then they can be hatchet sponges others 😂
the hunters are hard to predict and a damn good shot at times. i think the two different types of hunters might fight eachother too? i keep hearing gunfire and explosions....i know they fight with the wildlife but would they resort to explosives to take out a wolf or bear?
As far as I am aware at this time, they don't fight themselves, but will use any weapons to kill wildlife, particularly bears.
they will shoot animals, i've seen a bear bitch smack one and the hunters all lit the bear up and walked away and I skinned it, i've never seen them like throw a grenade or shoot an explosive arrow at a bear tho they totally might though
It can be tons of fun watching the hunters and rogues fighting, and having them also fight the wild now is great considering there was a time the hunters invited Bears for tea and biscuits 🤣

I have mine on revenge attacks and they still attack me
Interesting, they shouldn`t attack unless provoked. They will also attack if you go to near to them.
Tough wolves, how many bullets does it take to kill them? I'd think after an arrow and a couple gunshots, it wouldn't be so...alive.
craft the shotgun, it's basically insta-death for wolves at close range.
Why are hunters killing hunters? is there a lore reason for this, it doesn't quite make sense to me why that would happen
No lore has been given, it is simply to add optional and additional challenge. If there was a story to it I would assume it would be that hunting is big business and the other hunters do not like competition. Hence them being so defensive and aggressive.

@Rusty Shackleford i've never seen base hunters attack each other, only rogue and the base hunters i've seen shoot each other, in my game alpha and charlie are like a football field apart max, charlie walks right by alpha to get water and fish and alpha hasn't shot yet, but bravo was walked past a rogue camp and the rogues shot and killed the bravo hunter, which I then killed the rogues and looted. i've never seen rogues close enough to see if they attack each other yet, idk if the base hunters are SUPPOSED to attack each other but mine don't for some reason
