  • Here I go over some basics for hunting in SUBSISTENCE. I give you some tips and ideas but by no means are these the only or even the best way (for you). Please enjoy and leave any thoughts, ideas, or anything you'd like to see in the comments!

This game is pretty unforgiving so your tutorials have been a big help! Thanks so much!

Great tutorial, things to add would be level 1 wolf you can take with 5-7 shots from the 9mm pistol, I always build a platform with a doorway to stop the cougar or bear coming onto the platform. You use less ammo that way and you always get them every time. I didnt know about the jumping with the moose but they scare the crap out of me!!!

Hahaha they scare me too! Great point about the pistol and wolf and the platforms! I like to use the axe or pickaxe when they get up to the doorways. I know I'd forget something lol

Didn't know about the jumping. I just kept running lmao. I thought the occasional hit was just speed loss from terrain. I'm always hunting moose with like 10-12 arrows. I always need 2x as much for cougars. I've always found counting the attacks unreliable. I just got good at listening to the footsteps.
Definitely going to try that door thing.
A cougar punted me off a cliff once so I never use shotgun unless I know the 1 shot will kill it lol.

Nice! The counting no longer works with the update so listening is the only way now (as far as I know). It's probably the most reliable way anyway. Thanks for the comment!

@@gettingstarted8931 Ahh I see. I've been playing and I can't tell if the jumping works as I've still been hit doing it. It definitely can cause wolves to drop aggro which is pretty nice, so I'll just keep doing it haha.

@@Nocare89 The jumping still seems to be working for me. Maybe it's a timing thing? Not sure. Stick with what works haha!

jumping change nothing, all u need to do is running and not change direction at the moment the moose is doing his headbutt. If u keep going staight the moose will not hit u

@@yann8280 Unfortunately that doesn't work for me. I get hit every time and often break a bone. So far jumping is the only thing that works for me. I'm glad running works for you though. Hopefully it works for others too!

A cougar killed me and dragged my body to it's den.. took me 15 mins to get my body back. I was fishing and a hawk stole my fish as I was reeling it in. This game don't play around.

Hahaha that's so wild! I've been there. Sometimes you just have to walk away lol!
