In my personal vehicle I have a GPS, and also a paper Rand McNally, when I was working I hated those DEF trucks, so many problems with engine lights coming on, I told my boss, "hey, I might as well pee in the DEF tank, I will save you some money on actual DEF, and maybe the engine lights won't be coming on" , boss never seen the humor in that - LOL

Old school, paper logs, well tuned pre emission trucks (not smoking inefficient set ups) long wheelbase small bunk flat tops, ( I haul equipment and oversized loads so aerodynamic trucks don’t make much difference). GPS, CB and cell phones they all make life better.
Great reply brother, yes I haul a lot of oversize as well, just what I like doing lol. And yes they do make life easier. Nice that they have trucker packages not like the old days when my cell phone bill was $1000 lol
My old school: Paper logs = Comic books, juggled around to suit me not the government.

I like paper log I have 2000 freightliner 18 sp I never go to automatic no way for me automatic is baby toy!
Very nice brother, I do love the 18 speed. I have to agree with you on the automatic, even though they have come a long way, I still like knowing what gear I mean at all times.

I'm new to the industry I started my 1st job Oct 2021. I got to drive a 06 Peterbilt 379 with a 53' conestoga. I loved the Pet but not so much the flatbed. I'm now getting in a 09 Freightliner Columbia in about a week or so pulling dry van drop & hook. I'm looking forward to this easier work lol. I'm definitely old school 100%. Before this I was a 30yr welder fabricator.

I don't ever let my def get under 3/4. That way it doesn't crystallize all in ur tank. Not being full and air causes issues.

Yeah I generally try to catch mine at 2 bars for the same reason, not always possible depending where you are going. Can carry jugs but they are so damn bulky.
Got a preemissions truck just because I hate def so much. As well as liking the older engines.
Thing about cellphone and cb radio. CB is a lot better because the driver next to you that you may need to speak to for whatever reason you will not know his cellphone number but you can jump on cb and talk to that driver if they have a cb and it's on.

As of 17-year-old who is working towards my CDL I enjoy a mixture of both.
That’s awesome young Jedi lol but for real buddy you will get there. It is good to learn a lot of the old ways because if that GPS or E log stop working you won’t be stranded. Please keep us informed how the CDL goes
When truckers have CB radios, they often use a squelch instead of an RF Gain. Big mistake.

Yes and ASAP on that lol. I’ll go electric if it has less issues then DEF and the torque is off the hook lol

E-Logs and DEF suck and for the recorded I built a diesel engine without DEF and the motor past the Ontario emissions test
