My memory of the time of the former president was not that it was ok. His last 2 years in office were a stream of bad decisions.

As for the politics, 1) the Vice President is not in charge of the border. The VP does not preside over immigration courts. It generally executes existing law which on immigration has not changed since 1992. Also, there was a bipartisan immigration bill that Trump killed by calling Republican senators and telling them that they can’t let the Biden administration get a win in an election year. 2) Trump is very serious threat to democracy because he tried to not leave office after he lost and when you read the evidence attached to the indictments you will see that he was very actively involved in trying to overthrow the election. He fires everyone in his inner circle who tells him he is wrong. 40 of the 44 people Trump selected to serve in his cabinet during his first term have refused to endorse him (red flag?). That is 91%. 10 retired U.S. Generals have said he is a danger to US security. In August, approximately 250 Republican military leaders, legislators, conservative former federal Judges and White House staff have all endorsed Harris citing the unique threat Trump poses by his erratic behavior and attempts to stay in office. (Red flag?).
There may be perfectly valid reasons to prefer GOP policies over Democratic policies, but the party nominated the only person in U.S. history who tried to overthrow an election he lost.
But regardless of politics, I agree we need to be better as a society at finding common ground with people with whom we disagree. No political litmus test on friendships for me.

When Donald Trump still held a Twitter account, long before it was X, he consistently referred to Covid as “the China virus”. It’s an established stat that crimes against Asian-Americans increased during that period of time. I am not of Asian descent myself, and in regards to that I feel fortunate, since I wasn’t at risk of getting my ass beat by simpletons who wanted to assault anyone with Asian features. Dozens of federal officers were hospitalized on 1/6/20, and at least two wound up dead, due to cardiac arrest and suicide, not to mention some of his loyal followers who were shot and killed that day. He also posed for a photo op in front of one of Washington, D.C.’s oldest churches, having used force to clear non-violent protestors so he could hold up a Bible for the cameras. Which greatly upset the people who run that church and also own the property. I am done whining now.

Voting for candidates is like riding public transportation. You will never find one that takes you exactly to where you want to go, but you vote for the one that will take you as close as possible. If anyone truly believes that Trump will get them close to where they want to go, then go vote for him. Juat remember that he would try to dismantle the public transportation and force everyone to only use limo services, which is gonna leave a lot of people walking.

Documentaries aren’t worth the film they’re printed on. There are plenty of anti-Trump and pro-Trump docs. Each one of them is as convincing as the last. Hell, I even saw a doc that convinced me that Michael Jackson was still alive after faking his own death. Docs are produced from one point of view and are typically confirmation bias. They should only be watched for entertainment purposes.
A good movie suggestion, if ya haven't seen it, is Idiocracy.

My dad Jon lemon went to highschool with the singer Zack and was in a band with him in their sophomore and junior years. My dad said that he was pretty nerdy about his songwriting and that he would sit in the library most of the day between classes and durning lunch reading history, socialist, and Phillip Randolph books.
Out of respect, some things to consider:
Trump never answers a direct question. It's a lot of "we're looking at it" and "i think what we're seeing is awful" the latter being a slick way of saying something vague enough where everyone can agree. You're holding Kamala to a higher standard.
Trump took the best economy we've ever seen and gave us 9/11 level deficits BEFORE the pandemic. If you look at the market for the last 50 years, you can see what those trillions bought us: a barely noticeable bump. The trend stayed the same and GDP had no real gains. The bump was almost entirely buyback.

As a Democrat who voted for Biden in the primary, I'd have to say your facts are twisted. I knew when I voted for Biden, I was voting for the Biden/Harris ticket. I also know that Biden is old and that there may be a time when Harris takes over. That's how our system works. So, when he stepped down, I was hurt and angry at first, then realized that Harris was stepping up/in and I was okay with that. I voted for their ticket, not just Biden.

I was in my early twenties when this came out. I vividly remember the riots and the horrific beating. I lived in an all white city and county, it was very conservative, and the general media was very whitewashed. This song drove me to look deeper, beyond what was being sold to us. I started really questioning everything. I started listening to 2pac and Biggie, wanting to see and understand a life and experience that no white kid from Caucasian suburbia could experience or empathize with. It changed me for the better.

I was living in the SFV not far from where Rodney King went down. I know exactly where that spot is - I remember the riots and was in the process of going to Seattle as they made there way up north. I remember the night they rioted in Seattle as well and thinking the whole world had gone crazy....that was way before we actually went crazy during Covid

The only reason the country didn't erupt last trump term is because he appointed people into his administration who held him back from his worst impulses. He has already said he won't make that mistake again. Nearly every influential cabinet member from those years - recall the revolving door of personnel as people quit the administration in disgust - the WH chief of staff, the joint chief of staff, the security advisor, the attorney general, everyone who directly influenced our country, has said he is unfit for office and a danger to the constitution. Even the republican ex-VP is voting against him. Harris is not a great choice, but there is no alternative.
