    I would like to explain a few things. Just sold my 2015 air ride max tow and got a 2022 air ride max tow. These are closed systems filled with nitrogen. They never take in outside air so moisture isn't a problem. It just moves the gas back and forth. I live in the U.P. of MI at -20 never a problem.The leaf springs on the non air ride, you are riding on a pack of 4 springs with 2 overloads on top and the spring on the bottom front is there for controlling axle rap when loaded, like a traction bar or slap bar for us old guys. The air ride has 2 leafs that you ride on that is where the better ride comes from. The airbag is like overload springs. If you would have pushed on those bags with your finger there was no gas in them. And the 2 springs on the bottom are there for both overload but more so for axle wrap control. When you have weight traction. When empty the tires will just spin. My 15 had those 2 springs going forward of the axle only for axle wrap. I would say the 22 has more power so the springs need more control. The 15 road is better than the 22. The bags will play a part with the ride when carrying a load. When you saw that system leveing that was only because you braked hard and the rear of the truck came up the sensor read a defearance it didn't move any gas. The bags were already empty. The system on the 15 & 22 do opeareat differently. But I talk too much as it is. This system is simple & brilliant just my 2 cents.

      So the bags are empty when cruising around without a load? or minimal air in them but enough to make a difference in ride quality?

    • @upnorthyooper1196
      @upnorthyooper1196 Год назад

      @@Laurant956 Yes, a real big difference. But on my 2022 they screwed up the system. On the 2015 when you would air down it would stay there even with fuel in the tank in the bed of the truck, you road on the springs only. Road better then my 3/4 03. My 22 will air down then reads the load is too heavy and air back up, you can't stop it. It does not ride near as nice as the 15 did. The 22 has more leaf spring also. Still a 2 main leaf but where as the 15 had 2 additional in front of the axle only ( like slap bars ). The 22 has it in the rear also. There are a whole host of things changed on the 22 that is just bullshit and could lead to trouble. I am sorry I got read of my 15. I would take a 15 over a 22 in a minute. Both trucks have the HO engine 4:10 gears.

      @@upnorthyooper1196 Thank you for the reply we are currently trying to debate if it is worth the extra $1705 on our build but I am getting a lot of mixed answers plus we tow a bumper pull TT with a tongue of about 800lbs and use a WDH so I was told i would have issues with the WDH and Air ride together or to always run in Alt trailer height 🤷🏽‍♂️

    • @upnorthyooper1196
      @upnorthyooper1196 Год назад

      @@Laurant956 Are you buying a dually to pull a bumper pull? The air ride works differently on a single wheel.No matter what you are pulling with a 22 dually I would buy the air ride? The WDH will not hurt the air ride system on the dully. When I said it airs up it doesn't air all the way up. So the ride is still a LOT better than just leaf springs. Airs just what it needs for the preset ride height and the 22 will do it automatically for you and you can NOT hurt the air bags. I wouldn't buy the HO engine, you don't need the extra power that just seems to confuse the computers shift points.

    Daily drove a '12 ram 3500 CCLB DRW for 235,000 and a '17 f350 CCLB DRW for 120k (current) both with 109 gal transfer tanks. Also driven various 3/4 tons. Both DRW trucks were easy to daily once you got used to it. But there is a VERY noticeable difference in ride quality with huge points for the ram. Ford took to much weight out of the truck and hurt ride quality.
    Thanks for costing me an extra $1700 for my next truck since now I need an air suspension.
    All seriousness, first good side by side comparison of ride quality. Thanks for that.

    Dude! I hear exactly what you're saying. I just traded my 2019 RAM 3500 dually (which was a Bighorn) in on a 2022 RAM 3500 dually (Laramie) and it has the HO with 420hp, 1075lb torque, and it does not have the air suspension under the back. It definitely rides harder than my other truck! Without a doubt! Up here in PEI Canada, we get harsh winters, and our roads take a beating! Right now, we have frost heaves in the road that get this truck airborne if you're not careful. It will rattle your kidneys at times, so you need to be a bit more diligent when driving it. That's for sure. However, she's my daily driver, and I love it!

    My understanding is the wheelbase is the same on the mega cab with short bed vs crew cab with long bed.
    I have a ‘17 3500 Limited DRW with the air-helper suspension. They may have changed since then, but on mine it has 2 settings: “Alternate ride height”, which deflates the bags OR Regular ride height. And you can only change from one to the other when stopped. I don’t think the air bags do anything for the ride when the truck is empty… the leaf springs are doing all the work at that point, but Once loaded it definitely makes a difference. Sounds like the system has changed & more options have seen added since my version.

    I have a 2022 ram 3500 long bed high output Cummins with the air suspension and I tow on a regular basis approximately 14,000 pounds and sometimes I’m towing seven days a week, if I’m not towing I feel the truck is very comfortable to drive and I think it handles great on windy roads, but while I am towing the air suspension is automatic and adjusts its self, so on bumpy roads with a heavy load the vehicle gets very stiff and very bumpy, I’m comparing this to my 2016 ram 3500 single rear wheels and under a load with that truck it just became very comfortable to drive so I do feel for around town driving it’s very comfortable but when you load it up heavy and you get on a bumpy road especially when you have to slow down you really feel the bumps in that air suspension really does work well but it does get stiff when loaded also I recommend if someone wants to put a lift kit on one of these trucks do not buy the air suspension because it’s too complicated and too expensive to try and modify, I would stick with the leafspring suspension that would be the easiest to put a lift kit on, but if you’re towing heavy loads like myself you cannot go wrong with the air suspension system, thank you for the great video you always give good videos you’re a good guy👍

      got so stiff I stopped and press the button to lower it I think it lowers it maybe half an inch up to 3/4 of an inch and it did soften it up a little bit but it changed how the truck drove it was actually better with the backend higher and stiffer but I think you can soften it up when it goes in lowering mode it’s kind of complicated because we can’t manually adjust it but overall it’s really a good truck and I think Dodge sets it up this way for liability reasons longevity warranty etc. and I think no matter what someone drives they should be very proud of what they have and what the cost of these things we all work so hard to pay for them I think Dodge Ram has done a good job.

    How is the longevity of the air suspension
    Are they durable for years to come?

    • @barrymelvin5525
      @barrymelvin5525 2 года назад

      They are great when they work, in cold climates they can be very temperamental... also like any other parts, with age and use they wear out.
      I have a 14' 2500 with factory air suspension, it rides great ill give it that but not worth the headaches when it isn't functioning properly.
      I will be converting it it coil suspension with some kind of suspension assistance.
      the biggest factors of my decision is price, reliability and safety
      If an air bag blows there is no other suspension components other than bump stops to fall back on.
      The price of air bags, compressor, suspensio modules are all expensive at $700+
      So for me to convert to coils and add aftermarket bags/timbrens/summo etc I'm still under price of one bag.

    Does the new Dodge 1500 limited air ride better than Coil Springs

      Not in my view. I had a 2013 1500 four corner air. System crapped out, thanks to my cold climate in Alberta. I swapped out the air with coils and OEM struts. Straight swap. I found NO difference in ride quality after the switch.

    How much air lbs were you testing with?

      This system comes from the factory so it has a air tank that does not show PSI

  • @electricamish

    Really shouldn't refer to that as an air suspension , it is a leaf sprung suspension with an air assist, leveling system, and is sold as that. the ride difference is simply the extra leaves, thats the case with any truck" add leaves, ride rough "

    Once you buy a dually… you’ll always buy a dually if you haul !!! My 2020powerstroke dually rode better than my 22 HO. I live in NY and the roads here are the some of the worst roads in the country !! That being said the Ram isn’t bad for everyday driving.

      The suspension on the Ford trucks do seem a little softer but I haven’t driven one in awhile so I’m just going off my memory 👍🏾

      @@JB_WhoWork my bad, I missed that. My Ford drw has wheels, and 34" tires and leveled and looked awesome, but tougher to get a level tow. My 21 drw night edition ended up getting new wheels and 33" tires and i tow level now with my toy hauler, but tires don't look as good as before. :)

      Do you have air suspension?

  • @jefflangley5454
    @jefflangley5454 3 месяца назад

    I don’t think you really understand what you’re talking about. Neither one of those trucks are air suspension trucks. Air suspension and airbags are two different things. Airbags is just basically for load truck leveling. Air suspension is different

    Wrong Dodge is a maintenance nightmare. In the hotshot business Dodge breaks down way more than any other diesel with the exception of stupid people hauling with Nissan diesel trucks.
