To clarify a few things from the video, I work at Mercedes-Benz in Stuttgart myself. First, the GT and the SL don't have much in common; one of the few shared components is the door. As for the SL 43, it has a 4-cylinder engine and also comes with all-wheel drive. And you can order the car with back seats and when you have them you can fold them down.
The rear seats are large enough for my children who rarely ride in the car anyway. About as large as the rear seats were in my dads 928. Family fun taking off ramps at 120mph.
There's actually 5 variants: AMG GT 43 with a Turbo-4, AMG GT 55 & 63 with two variants of the BiTurbo V8, AMG GT 63 Pro with an upgraded BiTurbo V8, fixed wing, more intakes, and more downforce, and the AMG GT 63 S E Performance with 803 horsepower
Every manufacturer that moves the temperature and volume controls to a touch screen has lost the plot. This will be the scourge of 2018-2025 cars when we look back in the future.
In Mercedes they are always in the same place, they're large and easy to use. I have zero issues using it, I can even use it without looking because I know exactly where to touch. Or I can just tell it to change the temp, the voice control works extremely well.
Rear seats are available. Actually, the rear seats fold down and don’t have the partition barrier, ironically creating significantly more cargo area than the no rear seat option.
I have to say that in recent times, Doug has dropped the effort and quality of information that he puts into his videos. In the first eight minutes of the video he states that the SL43 has a V6 (it doesn't, it only gets the 4 cylinder), furthermore he talks about the GT only being offered with 2 seats (also wrong, it is obviously a 2+2). Those are the kind of mistakes that Doug usually doesn't make. Pretty disappointing to see how little he seems to work on his videos nowadays.
He used to pop the hood and point out funny warning labels and flip through the manual (perhaps digital now) and find interesting tidbits. Ya know, *quirks*. This was just an incredibly bland Mercedes advertisement. I think the only critique was for the in-screen AC controls? Every review I've seen for this car has been largely negative due to increased weight & cost, and no substantial performance improvements compared to its predecessor. Not to mention it lacks the character.
This was my dream car for like 8 minutes and then it went on a losing streak across RUclips against every single car in existence (this is a BRAND NEW model, everything else already BEEN here forever). Even a Hyundai, bro.

@@ImARealHumanPerson In races. If you look at the car in a vacuum, it's great. It's a Mercedes that for once in this era doesn't look like it belongs to a startup hairdresser CEO. Big numbers. Looks like a small old S65 with Roma tail lights. The SL can look refined but the AMG GT should look way more muscular than what we are being served right now.
The AMG GT is NOT simply based on the SL. AMG developed a shared platform and derived the GT from it with sportive competency, and a SL with more comfort. They sure share some components, but it's much more than body cosmetics and some different software features. The common basis was chosen because the sales numbers of normal 2 door convertibles drop dramatically, so that way the SL could survive.
This a a good looking SL COUPE ….I prefer the more pronounced front mid engine strict 2seater layout of the previous gen…AMG GTR GREEN with yellow brakes and seat belts
The weight…… what is going on. Porsche has gotten heavy, bmw has gotten heavy. I really don’t mind the hybrid systems in these cars but the weight gains is killing these cars
Saves cost for the people making them because the use bases emissions on weight, so the heavier a car the less they pay for emissions and the more power they can have.

It's not a straight line car, clown. Look at what it does against the same M8 on the track, it leaves it for dead😂
It's not a straight line car. Against the same m8 on track, it destroys the m8
@@lizparks1662 no... the m8 destroys it.
the old amg gt would destroy the m8
I saw a video of the Sl63 beating an m8 so I’m not sure how this could be slower. Where did you see that?
Ahhh yes, the infamous G-meter. This is exactly what i look for when I'm in the middle of a fast corner on track. I don't need to know anything else, only what kind of G's I'm at.
this isn't no AMG GT Successor. This is a 2 door version of the AMG GT 4-Door Coupe
You didn’t know the first gen gt was a 2 door version of the 4 door variant?
This is the coupe version of the AMG GT sedan. By definition a coupe must have two doors.
The rear does fold as long as you option for the no cost option seats. It will fold and you can fit skis right through. It’s just they don’t show that when you have the standard two seat configuration just as a heads up. @Doug love the reviews
Mercedes really makes beautiful interiors
This car would look so much better in any other color than all-black..
Looks like a small old S65 with Roma tail lights. The SL can look refined but the AMG GT should look way more muscular than what we are being served right now.
Following the same diet as the new M5 🐘
The gullwing SLS is my dream daily
I’d love the SLS Black series like Shmee has
Not for the weekends just for the ol' "daily grind"! Sounds perfect.
"Tremendously tiny". Never gets old 🤣
The AMG GT is NOT simply based on the SL.
Dougie Dimwit is at it again. But what can you expect from an Emory marketing, c average graduate?
all i noticed at the beginning was the ford gt in the back, crazy car.
Who skips to 'driving experience', then starts back at the beginning after?
😄
This a a good looking SL COUPE ….I prefer the more pronounced front mid engine strict 2seater layout of the previous gen…AMG GTR GREEN with yellow brakes and seat belts
14:44 that lag tho
The weight…… what is going on. Porsche has gotten heavy, bmw has gotten heavy. I really don’t mind the hybrid systems in these cars but the weight gains is killing these cars
Saves cost for the people making them because the use bases emissions on weight, so the heavier a car the less they pay for emissions and the more power they can have.
you can get the gt with rear seats as an option, and you can fold them down for more cargo area :)
@@skillissue1815 was looking for this comment lol
The new AMG GT makes the predecessor AMG GT look tremendously beautiful
And I hope it enjoyed that compliment from the back of your hand.
*tremendously ugly
Never true
Doug speaking 🗣️ in RUclips day by day more and more without any righting
Mercedes-Benz needs to hire some designers because this is the same old boring crap.
This is one of their better works. but yeah they really should, most of their modern cars look atrocious.
@nils4481
Exactly, and any slob can own a Mercedes now because of cheaper models and finance agreements etc, Mercedes just doesn't have the prestige anymore.
Just own one and drive around the city, ull see how it takes the attention from ppl.. it looks perfect for me
4:28 That makes it look like a Porsche Panamera.
Doug is the kind of guy to casually daily drive his FORD GT, just to review an AMG GT! You can see his ford GT parked over there, lol.
lol I saw that too!
@@extinnocencewow, you and a few hundred thousand other folks. Congrats for pointing out the painfully obvious.
Without a physical volume button, just that small detail would be a deal breaker.
Doug! Please review a mk1 or mk2 GTI!
True that would be cool
