Sorry Harry, but I much prefer the older classics. Manufacturers are producing so many ridiculously powerful cars stuffed with highly advanced electronics. I just can’t relate to them and would never buy one even though I could (just about!).
So bottom line: like every new Mercedes these days, too expensive for what it delivers. I've analyzed the price vs value of each new AMG that's been released and, almost like clockwork, each one is 30% too expensive for what it delivers. Thanks for corroborating Harry!
Hi Harry, this is the first review I've seen of yours and I must admit you are really good and well in touch with the new technology for an older guy like myself. I would personally go for a low mileage older model in a gloss colour, something I can polish and take pride in rather than go for a 'chav' satin colour which can only be jet washed to look its absolute best.
Harry, I own an SL63 Bi Turbo 5.5 Performance Edition, which weighs 1845 Kg,Glass Folding Roof & all. It has 565 BHP with it's 5.5 L Bi turbo, which makes it a very quick GT car AND a Convertible. GT 63 Weighs 1970 Kg with the petit 4.0 Litre Bi Turbo. The GT 63 also has AWD. We have near Zero Snow in Australia,so AWD is an affectation, but a negative in that it incurs Understeer,an unfortunate side effect. All in all, I won't even entertain buying an AMG GT 63,especially at the price quoted. I'll stick to my 18,000 mile SL63,and enjoy the Aussie Sunshine.
I loved my 2016 GTS. The spirit is still here with the drivetrain. It appears that everyone at MB got what they wanted here. Tech department with four screens, drivetrain department got their power plant, market research got their 911 competitor and back seats, finance got their profit margins, exterior designers got their wishes. The consumer gets an overweight expensive car that isn’t great at anything, but good at a lot of things. In 2027 people will be first in line to pay 45% off.
Excellent review as usual. The iPad led interior spoils the exclusivity. Test drove GT 55, said no thanks. Still in love with my 14 years old Jaguar XKR. The sound, the analog dials and buttons are all real and the 500 plus horses under the beautiful body is just amazing. AMG used to be good, still have a 12 years old S class AMG.
Given how the inside sound changed instantly when Harry switched through different modes, one has to assume the inside sound is heavily augmented with synthetic engine sounds.
Having recently driven your test route, I can’t believe how bumpy the road surfaces were..no wonder you keep most vehicles in the comfort setting for suspension. Maybe have a dash up the A429 from Morton for a change !
This move by Merc is so disappointing. The previous GT was a front-mid engine, transaxle, RWD sports car that could compete with the 911 every step of the way. The GTS won awards for best drivers car. The GT black series broke many track records. This however has become a grand tourer, and gained so much size and weight. The old GTS was 1618kg. This is 1974kg, which is possibly heavier than the old BMW M5, with less power and with worst weight distribution. The last AMG GTR had 585hp and weighed 1630kg, and literally beat a 660hp Ferrari 488 around the track.
Give me a break with the giant iPad thing. You can't even see out the window. They should make a non-driving living room version where you can simulate driving on the iPad. Who cares about "driving" in any case ?
In my humble opinion, this car would be better if they got rid of the interior screens, AWD, rear-steer, and increased fuel tank size. Also, I'm sure the engine sounds good, but when viewing this video on RUclips, it sounds like the engine noise in the interior has been digitally augmented.
The only part I like on the interiors of modern Mercs are the turbine-like looking air-vents…that’s it! The rest is video arcade chintz 😒 oh and that central LCD is going to date this interior so much, down the line. And all those hundreds of kilos of extra weight and front-biased weight distribution is a step backwards compared to the previous gen too. Quite good looking on the outside though, for a modern Merc jelly mould. Actually reminds me a bit of the original Sierra 😬

Harry. From USA, you are one of my go-to auto sites. I wish you and Jay Leno to mash up and blow our minds. No? It would be epic. "It's getting better all the time."
Let's summarize: - They added 350 Kg (770lb), that's an absurd amount of added weight - They ditched the transaxle design - They ditched the dry sump system - They ditched front-mid-engine layout - They ditched Rear Wheel Drive - They ditched hydraulic steering - They took the SL chassis and the 2+2 seat layout which makes this essentially an SL, especially in roadster form (I'm assuming this will come out at some point). - But hey, it now has a big iPad center screen 😀oh dear.

Used to be an AMG fan boy, I still have a SLK55, and I used to have a brand new C63……….but I just don’t have the money to buy an AMG any more. If I did have the money I wouldn’t bother with AMG I’d rather have an AMG powered Aston Martin
Sorry Harry, but I much prefer the older classics. Manufacturers are producing so many ridiculously powerful cars stuffed with highly advanced electronics. I just can’t relate to them and would never buy one even though I could (just about!).
I definitely agree with you Harry, I hate these screens on the new cars.
So bottom line: like every new Mercedes these days, too expensive for what it delivers. I've analyzed the price vs value of each new AMG that's been released and, almost like clockwork, each one is 30% too expensive for what it delivers. Thanks for corroborating Harry!
That Mercedes font on the glass is the original Mercedes logo from the 1900's
Imagine paying that much for a car and then you get an interior as bad as that 😂🤮
of all the coupe automobiles ive seen you review, this would be my pick and in that exact spec and color. Beautiful car!
Fun fact, the AMG GT GT3 factory race cars still use the good old 6.2 💪💪💪💪
Hi Harry, this is the first review I've seen of yours and I must admit you are really good and well in touch with the new technology for an older guy like myself. I would personally go for a low mileage older model in a gloss colour, something I can polish and take pride in rather than go for a 'chav' satin colour which can only be jet washed to look its absolute best.
It’s lovely seeing cars you can’t afford. But I’m afraid that’s also a car I wouldn’t want.
Why? It’s practically the perfect grand tourer
Hey Harry! Love watching your videos! Would you consider making one about your watches?
I loved my 2016 GTS. The spirit is still here with the drivetrain. It appears that everyone at MB got what they wanted here. Tech department with four screens, drivetrain department got their power plant, market research got their 911 competitor and back seats, finance got their profit margins, exterior designers got their wishes. The consumer gets an overweight expensive car that isn’t great at anything, but good at a lot of things. In 2027 people will be first in line to pay 45% off.
Surprised there was even room for seats with that 65 inch tv.
That touchscreen is probably 300kgs. 😂
😅😅😅😅😅😅
Loved the video. None of the options needed like another German brand! Love the car and great look. Well done M-B.👍
It sounds completely false/synthesised from in the cabin - on my TV at least. I assume it sounds more authentic in person?
Given how the inside sound changed instantly when Harry switched through different modes, one has to assume the inside sound is heavily augmented with synthetic engine sounds.
@@joergfitzner I'd want to turn that off I think.
The push at 6:58 makes that giant screen look cheap, and why’d they try hiding the engine start?
Aston all day long arry !❤
Having recently driven your test route, I can’t believe how bumpy the road surfaces were..no wonder you keep most vehicles in the comfort setting for suspension. Maybe have a dash up the A429 from Morton for a change !
Would love to see you review the new Maserati Granturismo. See how it compares to this
11:12 i think they programmed it to drop a a tiny drop of fuel somewhere in The system to make that sound. I could remember it from somewhere 🤔🤔
For some reason Harry sharing my AMG i mode preference has made my day
This new GT seems more of a rival for the Bentley Continental GT than a 911 Turbo S.
Thank you harry . Very detail video
stick shift, light, vibration, noise, visceral, non turbo, beautiful, no screens, analog dials, you dont exist WHY NOT!!!
Cracking car Harry keep up the good work
Give me a break with the giant iPad thing.
All your wishes were fulfilled in the previous AMG GT generation (C190/R190).
If I'm shelling out 100k+ for a car, the entertainment center better be integrated into the damn dash!
Great Video and keep doing your great reviews!
Looks a lovely car, that big screen in the centre of the dashboard puts you off
Noticed you have a new watch. Can't really tell what model is that. Maybe consider to a video on your watch collection?
Looks like a Rolex sub by Bamford 😉
Harry should do a wrist check for us nerds. 😊
@@peteflint7281 Yes I think you are correct, I was given one some years ago, and gave it away (I didn't like the black).
@@jmlupoludowicy1239 Nerds rule the world. :-)
What is the vehicle on the right to the black Jaguar F-Type in the garage? Just out of curiosity, I know it's not the subject of the video...
4343lbs is insane.
I'll stick to my 2500lb B16a EK.
Prices are just skyrocketing man. Wish these things were more obtainable and that I would see plenty on the road. So good looking
A GT with only 200 mile range is anti-GTish.
Great preview as always Harry … love the farm ones as well . I look forward to the Aston Vantage preview as think I would go for that one as an all rounder
Its that time yall!!! Harrys on Sunday!!! Yay!
Harry. From USA, you are one of my go-to auto sites. I wish you and Jay Leno to mash up and blow our minds. No? It would be epic. "It's getting better all the time."
Beautiful! And in thatt silver, it looks glorious.
Let's summarize:
- They added 350 Kg (770lb), that's an absurd amount of added weight
- They ditched the transaxle design
- They ditched the dry sump system
- They ditched front-mid-engine layout
- They ditched Rear Wheel Drive
- They ditched hydraulic steering
- They took the SL chassis and the 2+2 seat layout which makes this essentially an SL, especially in roadster form (I'm assuming this will come out at some point).
- But hey, it now has a big iPad center screen 😀oh dear.
Yet it goes 0-60 in 2.7 seconds.
@@brentparker9527 if you only care about straight line speed and things like cornering performance and an engaging experience aren‘t a priority for you I suggest you buy an EV. They‘ll do 2.7 seconds as well. 👌
@@sveeny can you prove to me that the handling on this is subpar? I’ve test drove one and there wasn’t any issue. I suggest you watch remove before race and his take on the handling
@@brentparker9527 I‘ll give the review a shot. It‘s certainly a nice car and maybe even more true to the „GT“ name tag I just think it‘s shocking how many things they removed. Cutting all those corners leaves a sour taste from a company that just came out with s 4 cylinder C63. The old AMG GT was a true stand alone sports car while this feels like (it pretty much is) a rebadged SL.
Had a courtesy c class last week, as my mercedes was in the garage and what happened.... The centre screen didn't switch on and I was unable to adjust the temperature in the car. 25 degrees outside and 30 degrees plus inside. Get rid of the screens. I gave the loan car back 😂
r/thathappened
Im not a Mercedes guy, but this freaking car, along the SL65A MGBS, the SLS and the CLK63 are magnificent!
Would love to see a supertest between this, the Aston, the Porsche 992.2 C4S, a Ferrari Roma and a McLaren Artura given the money involved for one of those. Great cars being released at the moment and glad to see that the ICE is the focus of them all. Bravo indeed.
The ipad just ruins the entire car sadly
Bugatti and Pagani giving a class on how interiors should be
AWD clinches the deal for me. I would love to see your reaction with a back to back drive of the 2wd version on a track, so you can really let fly...but then that isn't the point really is it. Thanks for another great review.
It’s lovely - but £165k?
Ok, I'll give you a discount of £8,000
Hold down the left paddle when you turn the engine on next. Nice little exhaust surprise
No longer
Watch that mic distortion!
Great review as always, Harry. I hope you review more Mercs!
Too f*** heavy 🛳️🛳️🛳️
But it's got some thump
Does that matter if it goes like stink?
@@worldofrandometry6912 Yes.
@@trenthazbroek5602it really doesn’t matter
It does matter when you want to go round a corner
I really like the way this looks.
Honestly, heavier, phatter asp! Looks wise; the older amg gt's ,gts, gtc, gt r, better looking. Prefer the Classic long hood, older had nicer interior too. Change for the sake of change and seems like incremental improvements; perhaps. And did he say 300kg heavier!!? Deal breaker! i'll take my imaginary 200k elsewhere haha!
