Time to Drive the New #AMGGT 63!! I’m Raz, sometimes known as Mr AMG, and today is finally the day to drive the new #MercedesAMG GT 63!
It’s a car many #AMG fans are super hyped up about, because it stays true to the emotional V8 character that has been a hallmark of the brand for decades. Building upon the Grand Touring side of the car, it now features a 2+2 seating, 4matic all wheel drive, and a much bigger interior and boot.
The V8 engine and gearbox are now mated up front, to free up space for 4matic+ all wheel drive - a first for the GT. It’s always rear biased, up to 100%, and a max of 50% power to the front. The 63 gives the same horsepower as the outgoing AMG GT R at 585BHP, and a 0/60 of 3.2 seconds (we test it at sub 3!). There’s also a GT55 with 476BHP coming soon.
All this sounds very familiar tot he SL with which it shares the same platform and most of the main comportments.
So the car has grown, and has lost the “front mid engine” transaxle layout of the original GT and SLS, along with the perfect 48/52 weight balance. It’s now 1900KG, and on paper reading more like a super saloon.
So because it shares platform, it’s accused by many keyboard warriors of being an SL with a roof. But is that really the case?
AMG head of dynamics Rene Szczepek, filled us in a little on this. First of all, the rear transmission is unique to the GT, which alongside the wider tyres, helps shave 0.6 off the SL’s launch time. Further more, modern components are wholly dependant upon software, and car vary massively dependant on configuration. The GT’s software for ESP, gearbox, steering, engine map - all unique. Most crucially the semi active roll stabilisation uses hydraulic pumps instead of roll bars, saving weight and helping create a unique character. Speaking of character - the exhaust note is simply orgasmic, with a very different note to the SL.
But will it be enough? Can this first Grand Tourer version ever hope to live up the old pure sports car? Let’s find out today!

That old generation of GT will remain unique as Mercedes has dropped the mid-engine concept. The new generation is cool and all, but conceptually it is more generic.

The 4343lb weight is insane. when I drive a coupe in the first place I'm looking for a dynamic chassis for cornering and a driver focused experience.
AMG has lot its ways with making modern amg offering so heavy (like the c63) and too much technology
Gotta say this red and black spec is by far the prettiest out of the 3 you posted on your IG.
I love the rear end, actually think the SL front end looks better once you compared them on top of each other. But the gt front is still sexy aggressive. What I HATE and PRAY Mercedes owners are giving feedback on is that Tesla style huge center display. I plan on getting earlier models for that alone.
It honestly still looks good and works well. But I agree the horizontal integrated screens look better.

always the 911 was a "4 seater" this magically became a 4 seater, the 991 has front active aero, this now has a front aero, the actual 911 has a single rear light composed of multiple rear lights now this mercedes is a single rear light car with a more 911 rear.
everything is there and not only this, the panamera in mercedes is the gt63s 4 door, the taycan is similiar to the eqxx (even knowin that it's respective purpouses are different the styling is there.) , the macan is a eqa etc
but not only that the actually front styling of current mercedes 2013- 2018 is from volvo, the rear of the amg one takes a lot of inspiration from the aventador SV.
i liked when mercedes was mercedes and not aimming to the something else.
Its crazy to me to think that somehow this is the succesor of the slr McLaren the downgrade in peformance and looks is BIG, whichs is simply sad.

1900 kg is wild for this kind of car, especially developed and build on its own AMG platform.

@@Welsh_Veteran_420_ZWildly disagree, just because it got GT in its name, doesn't make it an actual Gran Turismo/Gran Tourer just like the Ford GT is anything but a Gran Turismo. The AMG GT rivals the 911 and other actual sportscars.

Absolutely enjoyed this review and the car is awesome. Just that sound and emotion alone is worth it. The shape and profile is perfection as well.
I guess it‘s now more true to the „GT“ nametag than before. But they DEFINITELY took away from the sports car that it has been!
* They added 350 Kg (770lb), that's an absurd amount of added weight.
* They ditched the transaxle design
* They ditched the dry sump system
* They ditched hydraulic steering
* They ditched Rear Wheel Drive
* They ditched front-mid engine layout
* And yes, they took the SL chassis and the 2+2 seat layout which makes this essentially an SL, especially in roadster form (I'm assuming this will come out at some point).
Glad to hear that it‘s an exciting car nevertheless though. But the list of things they got rid of is heart braking to me.
This car costs as much as a GT3. Let that sink in...

Just wanted to say, thanks to this channel + Chris Harris for motivating me to work hard I have been able to buy a 2017 C63S. Such a great car and so proud to own it. It's a blue t-model with chrome trim and saddle brown interior.

But I must say, I'm not really impressed with the inside especially since you've compared it to the older model, where it had that center cockpit, but I'm sure people will get used to it.

What I wanna see for the GTR/BS version.
- Redesign chassis layout to be front-mid engined again (they have designed chassis before like the SL BS)
- lose the weight, drop the 4 wheel drive if it helps
- add the race tech like dry sump

This simply is a coupe version of the new sl, and thats in no way a bad thing. The new sl63 handles great, and this coupe versión of it, makes sense.. at 170k euros max with keramik brakes
The SL is supposed to be the roadster version of this. But it had a different front in order for the SL to still sort of keep it's own identity.

Am I the only one that loves the physical buttons more on the console? It looks more... manly, robust, and what I would expect to see in a car like this.
Ofc you aren't, most of us do, it's just not cosy with all the screens and ambi light and physical buttons are just more easy also.

Beautifully crafted. I love it.
Surprisingly, it sound good from the outside despite being a lot more quiet compared to the previous generations, and the fact that it sounds loud only on launch control and then it gets quite leaving you only with the artificialsound from inside. That's the think that i despise the most! I see that in a lot of sports cars nowadays and compared to older sports cars it seems overall a lot like a downgrade, aside for the technological stuff.

That's because the sound is channeled from the exhaust to the speakers in the back. It's not am artificial soundtrack.
Just a wonderful car that should fit my garage very well in a few years BUT I much prefer the old interior and that generation will always remain special. 😀😀😀😀

I mean, its still a fact that the SL has the SAME Interior. If the GT has a SL Interior or the SL has a GT Interior doesnt really matter at the end of the day. What you say about the inspiration of the old GT makes sense. It see it as well. And btw, these two cars sharing an Interior isnt a bad thing when its a nice Interior as this.

Wow that is one sexy AMG supercar!!! This looks and sounds better than the Porsche 911 Carrera as I hate to say it being a Porsche fan for over 10yr now. The body looks perfect and the sound is amazing!! I would rather buy this than play the Porsche dealer game in over paying MSRP!!!

I agree 100% that pushing a sports car to the upper reaches of its limits where it is safe to do so is more fun than constantly reigning in a higher powered car that is too fast for the public road.
It sounds like the 55 variant may just be the pick of the range.

How’s the ride? I had the new SL63 but sold it because it was beating me up. The ride was so rough i couldn’t take it. Even in comfort setting it was abusive. Is it equally as stiff?
Well being the sportier version it will be as stiff, probably even stiffer.

I'm actually not that much of a fan of all of the burbles and cracks from the exhaust. It doesn't sound natural, it sounds artificial
I actually like the exhaust note under comfort mode. The deep rumble reminds me of the NA V8 of the C63

Sorry will get a lot of abuse from my comment but I loved and bought the original GTS apart from the good looks the interior was on another level.
All new Mercedes now look like a pimped out Tesla with that hideous screen glued to the dash. It doesn’t flow and doesn’t look good. I for one will be upgrading to a DB12 in a few years. Fallen out of love with Mercedes due to those ridiculous interiors.

@@jackmarston2515 It's not faster, doesn't handle better. I chip tune the 4.0 amg often, especially on the old GTs and old V8 Aston Martins. They're only slower coz they lower the boost from 600-500hp

Genuine looker and good evolution of the previous model, however I think there's been too much emphasis on this vs the SL. This new GT63 seems to want to steal market share from the 911 and I was hoping to see where this fits in amongst the 911 line up.

I've owned an AMG GTS, GTC, GTR, S63 sedan, S63 convertible, GLE 63s and one of my all time daily favourites, an E63s.
I'm looking forward to the new AMG GT in all its potential iterations.

I've been enjoying my 2021 E63S for the last three years and have been thinking about its successor. My plan has been to pick up the S63 E Performance, but that car is unobtainable until MB finally releases the initial build slots. The new GT63 is extremely tempting; if I can get a build slot for the spring, I'll probably go with it.

I love the GT! It’s a great entry level into upper level sports cars and the sound is incomparable. It’s fully capable and not so expensive that you’re scared to track it!
