It's amazing how easy you make this look. I am just about to start learning how to skate but watching the advanced skating that you did is just incredible and you are very good at breaking down a movement step by step.
Just started practising double push myself and also posted a vid. As an older mainly ice skater I have to admit or isn't that simple to learn but the beginning is there, thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the video. I thought I could kinda do the double push motion, but now I realize it wasn’t correct because I didn’t feel like I was actually pushing with the underpush. Now I know what to focus on. This might seem like a weird video request, but could you talk about skating technique when you are tired and at the end of your energy? My form always falls apart at that point and I don’t know the best way to keep going.
The idea of doing the same technical drills over and over, as well as being focused on smooth skating whenever you're training, is hopefully going to make it natural for you to be skating in an efficient way, even when the mind switches off and the legs are blowing apart.
I think where it saves energy is that in-line loses a lot of speed to friction (unlike ice), so when you glide without double pushing you are actually slowing down on each step. By using double push you are pushing throughout your whole stride so you keep your speed up without needing to get back to the speed you were at at the beginning of each stride. There is also the side benefit you mention of using slightly different muscles to propel you forward.
Thank you for the viseo. Have purchased smaller cuff boots and its taking so long to get back to what i was doing before. Your videos help. Can i ask about the classic postion. I find my lungs are not free to breath and am fighting keeping curved back and breathing. You do not have problems with this at all? Also lower back pain, what does this infer with regard positioning of the classic stance. Thank you in advance.
That takes getting used to. I'm a cyclist for few years before I became inline skater and I cycle in the same posture as Victor does when skating. It takes time to adapt to breathe well in that posture. Lots of cardio training in that posture on the bicycle or indoor stationary bike.
Many thanks for this tutorial! Just a quick question, Is it possible to learn/do the double push on hard boots? It seems that speed skaters are not using hard boots at all, so I suspect that there is an ankle movement that is impeded by hard boots?
I used hard boot free skate to learn double push without any difficulties. If you can "one foot slalom" (and many do one foot slalom with hard boot skates) then you can learn to double push on any skates even on quad roller skates.
Sick vid. Raced on 5 wheels as a kid and looking to get back into it. Looks like the sport has evolved past a Bont Sharky and Attitude frames haha. Man I don’t know where to begin. 3 or 4 wheels? I see some guys prefer one over the other? What’s the difference? Someone kind explaining?
More or less. First of all its harder maintaining the double push on slower speeds since your ankles are limited in flexivility. I can only double push while going fast which will mostly be on long trails out of the City.
is this even worth trying on "Fitness Skates" or generic commonly-found Craigslist skates from the peak of inline, the year 2000. (almost always 80mm wheels and high plastic boot)
It can be useful if you skate more than 10 kilometers in one session. The double push can improve efficiency on any skates including generic "freeskates" with 80mm wheels, high boot. The most important, probably absolutely necessary skill to learn before double push is the "one foot slalom" because if you don't, you'll find the "underpush" part of double push incredibly intimidating and you may end up doing it wrong.
I would say, no. You do need a certain amount of minimum speed to do the DP but you should be able to do it slowly, it’s actually harder to do it when going faster because it takes a fair bit of coordination.
I don't know. I use inline to maintain ski skills and conditioning (this was the original marketing angle). So why should I learn something impossible on skis. OTOH anything that builds coordination, balance, and especially pushing the comfort-zone translates to all sports.
Stupid question: is it even possible to learn double-push at low speeds? I understand that at low speed the underpush curve will be very small, but it seems that at slow speeds (and large wheels) it's just much harder to learn.
It is harder and it's likely to be less efficient as well. That being said, as long as you can get enough lean to be able to push underneath yourself, it's possible :)
Working up to this. As an older learner skater anything that makes my stride more efficient has to be a good thing!

Thanks Viktor. Your video motivate to train and be fit and healthy. Thanks for sharing info about Zihi. Looking forward your next video.
Happy to be part of giving Zihi the spotlight it deserves ;) When am I gonna see you on inlines?
Look forward to learning from the guru. The way you explain to the audience is exceptional. Thanks for sharing your knowledge 🙏

Thank you very much for this…. I am trying to improve my basic stride! And the double push looks so cool
Thanks!! Nice video.
Simple and to the point explanation! Great video :)
Thank you Viktor
Great video, thank you very much
Waiting man!
Bro you’re killing it 🔥🔥❤️ Thank you for this video this will help me to improve my double push ☺️❤️🔥
Saw this video a little late in my double push experience, but anyways it is super helpful to get more knowledge about it, appreciate it very much😂👌
Excellent full speed
Dude thank you - this was awesome

@ViktorThorup can you explain where you’re saving energy when using this technique? Is there specific muscle groups that should be relaxed?
I think where it saves energy is that in-line loses a lot of speed to friction (unlike ice), so when you glide without double pushing you are actually slowing down on each step. @@paul_k_7351 Very well explained! Basically much easier to carry momentum from one stroke to the next :)
And also in the ubderpush your relaxing your inside muscles Compared to the outside push.
Waiting for the video man 🙇♂️
Thanks for your video, really very helpful. Do you think it is suitable for children to learn this technique?

Спасибо! Отличный выпуск!
thanks viktor bro
This is the easiest and fastest method Thank you for uploading this video Victor +1 sub for you
Is this a thing to do on semi speed skates? Or specifically for speed skates?
Hello Viktor thanks for some tips and very easy when we're watching but I have some back pain for execute for longtime :-(

I’ve been doing since back in high school days, on quads

To some extend. Pushing underneath oneself should still be possible.

I made a handful of videos answering your questions. Check them out :)
Do you already have your answer?
Thanks for the video. Now go out to practice. Is this technique practical for skating in city streets?
Practical for anybody seeking to go faster ;)
More or less. First of all its harder maintaining the double push on slower speeds since your ankles are limited in flexivility.
I can only double push while going fast which will mostly be on long trails out of the City.
thank you for the video and the link to the app. I cannot locate it
Here we go … T minus 10sec. Thanks Viktor!!

방가방가🥰😍🤩
Hi Viktor,Is it correct to think that the faster you skate, the better your double push will be? thanks for the great video.

It is correct to think that the better your doublepush is, that faster you skate ;)
@@thorupviktor hehe right, I was actually talking about the learning process of the double push. But I got your instructions, thanks!
Thanks for the video... Recording Stick is removed in editing but shadow is present 😂

I was thinking, "Why does this RUclipsr think he can do a double-push?" Then I remembered he's an Olympic skater 🤣

Halo I am also a skater
Nice to hear that 😂😂
If I keep practicing I'll be there when I'm 50 so untalented am I 😅 Enjoying your videos though, thank you so much!
hello i am korean~~~
This is some hellofa workout. You are also moving weight from the skates. I skate on a bit of a grade and it is not easy
Did Chad really *invent* this? Or was he just the first one to notice lots of people are doing this and just formalized it? It seems pretty natural.

The problem is how to get a good skate if i have a good skate i can also be good at skating
You can also be good at skating with cheap skates....
@@BlackyRay_Patrick true when you have a good coach but for me i train my self
@@_iTangishaKa there are so many good coaches on RUclips and the rest is practise practise practise.
Sadly, too much introductory talking &-not getting into showing us the procedure.
We prefer British instruction.

Damn. Not sure we can move on without you :(
You look like the Tony Jeffries of skating 🛼 ❤
