Had the pleasure of listening to this man speak at our Marine Corps ball in 2013. One of my friends went up to him and asked him for a selfie, and he obliged. A great man with a big character.
I served with Lt. General Nicholson when he was the Company Commander of Delta Company of the “Striking 1/9th! Awesome Marine then and now!! Semper Fi Sir!!
I attended The basic School and IOC with 2ndLT Nicholson back in 1980. He was liked and respected by everyone. Always solid. I also had the pleasure of meeting his then USMC captain son at TBS while i visited there two years ago. Larry should take great pride in his career, but even greater pride in his progeny. Well done, sir. SF
I met this man on the battlefield in Marjah in 2010. He was a 1 star at the time. He was very humble and would talk to you respect regardless of your rank. He was a great man to be around even though it was brief. Good luck to you, sir!
I’ve got a wife, 3 great kids, 5 grandchildren, a successful contracting business, nice home, nice stuff....the American dream. But every day I think back to my days in the Corps....two tours in Vietnam...every day...still dream about it. Those days, that training, those fellow Devildogs, sharing and enduring the bullshit and focusing on the mission and succeeding.....Those were the times that I value the most. I wouldn’t be what I am now without the Marine Corps experience. Best bunch..smartest..funniest, most dedicated people I have ever “ worked” with. Those of you who want to criticize America..criticize our president, whine about UNFAIRNESS.....I consider you the weak and misinformed. I love America. I am proud of President Trump. I don’t whimper for fairness...I welcome challenge. Don’t stand in my way.....fair warning. I’m done. Time for the weak and whiney, those who want but never gave, those who tear down and have never built ......to troll. Fuck you. You are insignificant. But fear not. The Marines will still protect you from others. We just can’t protect you from yourselves. Bring it. Dave Heitman Sgt. USMC 1967 -1970 and till I die
Lt. Gen. Nicholson was my Series Commander back in boot camp at MCRD San Diego, May of 1984 when he was a young 1stLt. Thank you Sir for your incredible service and dedication to our country and the United States Marine Corps!
Very true, Marine for life. I served 5 Oct 73 to 4 Oct 77. Parris Island, then Camp LeJeune on to Camp Foster Okinawa and back to Camp LeJeune. Semper Fi
With my whole heart, I can honestly say that I look forward to videos like this SO much more than I do with any of the other channels I subscribe to. This means so much more than some “challenge” video or any of that other crap. I look forward to the day when I will be serving alongside these incredible men and women in just a few short years. Semper Fidelis. 👊
What a life achievement and legacy. Lt. General Nicholson was the BN Commander of 2/2 when I was just starting my career in the late 90’s. Semper Fidelis.
My Son had 8 yrs under his belt, when he crashed his motorcycle and nearly died, so, he had to get out, to recover, he doesn't know how to be anything but a US Marine, other than a good Son and Brother, I'm blessed to have him home 🇺🇸
Lt. Col Nicholson was my battalion commander from 1999ish to 2001 at 2/2 at Camp Lejeune. I've spoken briefly with him face to face on several occasions. He's a good man and a good leader. Semper Fi, sir
We can never thank you and the men and women like you for your service. And to those who paid the greatest sacrifice, we are truly thankful. God Bless you all.
He didn't start out reaching for the "stars" because he is a leader the stars gravitated to his shoulders - that is what make a Marine..OOORAH General...OOORAH...Out-freaking-standing Sir!
Thank you for your many years of service and all the big, and little things you gave in your years of service. I speak with many military veterans, and so many times, I get the same statement, which I can't understand , being an old woman. "I was in for years in Korea, Vietnam, and wherever I was sent it, I'd go again in a minute!' As I said, I don't understand, but I am so grateful to all the military for giving up so much to keep us free!
Kylie Butts Some make it a career and never even make it to SSG for 10 years some in ten year become high ranking officers you could fail or not you never know.
US MARSOC only 16 but I'm going to go in as an Infantry Officer, if given the chance I intend to go recon and if lucky enough become a commandant but I'll settle with whatever happens. How about you brother?
US MARSOC Sorry to hear you had to retire bro, I just got a OCS Physical Training Preparation Pack from my uncle and I was wondering what would be the time I need to achieve to know for sure I'd be able to pass recon. I know 18min is a 100 for running but from what he told me only 10% of the Corps have achieved that. Semper Fidelis
Doug I know a way y'all could figure it out, if y'all meet in person. A Marine would back down to a face to face meet up, or ya could do a video chat thingy depending on location.
Semper fi , General. It's good leaders that made my husband stay for 30 years. He didn't want to get out, He loved the Marine Corps. But ,for an enlisted Marine, that's the most they can serve. He retired in 1990 as the Depot Sergeant Major of MCRD San Diego. I think I loved the Marine Corps as much as he did. I know I was really proud of my Marine.
Probably. He was there then. He usually made the last march up at Pendleton with the troops. He was in great shape. And the sadly, 6 years ago he passed away from a brain tumor. It has been a great loss to me and our family. Thank you for responding and thank you for your service, Marine.
Sir ...My stepdad was a master sgt. My real Dad was in with Joe Di magio .I went in a private came out a ptivate .There is no more a proud person such as you and I .thank you. Allways faithfull. i would do it over .
I wasn't quite finished with boot camp yet and I decided I was going to be a career Marine that's what I wanted to do but a car accident 2 years later change my path Semper Fi
Roger that Sir. We will see ya out here in the civilian world. Sucks, but its all we got. The Marine Corps Brotherhood was Awesome!!! Thank You For your Service Sir, God Bless and Semper Fidelis.
Do not go go quietly into that good night. Congratulations on 39 years of service. I would have been at 30 years had I stayed in. That is some crazy....
My uncle was a Navy corpsman in Vietnam with the Marines. He died last year, i didn't really know much about his service, but the Marines from his unit that were at the funeral told me stories about a very different man that I thought I knew. I thought he was just basically a medic that had combat experience, but they told me he was not only a good medic, but also a extremely proficient killer as well. That went into detail about things I couldn't believe, how he killed guys inside those tunnels and stabbed people to death, not to mention he was a supposedly an expert shot. That's such a strange thing to be someone who's out there to save lives but you yet you're taking so many as well. I guess its killed or be killed I would imagine out there, corpsman or not.
Precisely. And as Marines we're taught that the only solace we take in killing the enemy is eliminating those capable of killing us! So sorry for your loss.
A life well lived! Thank u, Sir for your unsurpassed service. Semper-Fi!!
