Getting this setup for my neighbors dog. Not an animal lover but I cannot sit by and see one cold with no shelter. I got one of them igloo dog houses now on my way to get straw. It's cold af outside. Thanks for sharing information.
You're an animal lover you just don't know it yet. I used to believe I wasn't a dog person and couldn't stand cats. Look at me now with two dogs, two cats, two guinea pigs and a rooster. You are a good neighbor.
The igloo dog houses would be much better if the door wasn't so massive, you could put a board across the bottom half of the entrance and that would keep them warmer and also keep the straw from coming out.
i read online having hay or straw encourage fleas infestation. any idea how to prevent that? i'm thinking about straw as well since it is affordable and easy to add in but i'm worry about insect or fleas bites ...any suggestions? Do your dogs has any issues with fleas when u add hay into their house? thanks for your help :-)
This is an awesome video! Now, we know how to keep our dogs warm in the winter! My wife LOVES YOUR videos... and wants you to make more! Very informative!
Always make for sure the door is never face the North the coldest airs come from the North face the South or the west or east if possible the south is where the warm breeze comes from
In the Northern Canadian region. I used pine boughs as an indoor platform, easier to remove snow and prevents snow from forming to ice. Spruce boughs are ideal, its comfortable for the dogs. What I usually do, is place some grass on top of the boughs and use smaller pine trees, to make the entrance smaller. To prevent the dried grass from being yanked out. To gather grass, I had to walk great distances gather and tie them into bundles. Its friggin dangerous with animals and who knows what else is lurking out there. Bales of straw are expensive due to shipping costs via airplane, since I live in a middle of nowhere with no all season road. I estimate that since my dog is medium sized, I think I would need two bales of straw.
Your welcome, spruce boughs are comfortable, we've used spruce boughs for beddings in wigwams. the dogs up here have a tendency to shift straw/hay around. ergo flattening it and shifting it around.
I own a private wolf sanctuary in norcal. I dug several deep dens lined in rubber. Lots of straw, heat lamps, covered in logs and boulders. In winter they stay at 72 degrees, in summer I activate misters over the logs, ferns, boulders and maintain it at 68. No cages for my pack. They come and go at will from my cabin. Some of them are 200 pounds and prefer to sleep on my bed, or watch animal planet. They keep me warm in winter since I prefer to sleep cold with their door open. I change straw twice a month. They get venison from highway department, and in winter I make twenty gallons of stew. for them. Be advised to not feed them venison chilli . they love it but the gas will put you in their dens when al, eight decide tl sleep in the house. they are much smarter than my rescue shepherds and rottie mixes.. Mendocino County. you are a good man, Ron.
I have a GSD in a big shed full of straw here it can be below cero this is first time doing this you think I have to buy a dog house and hows the best way to clean the straw cause he poops there any suggestions I tried to keep it clean as possible and planing to buy a heat lamp. The ones is used to keep chicks 🐥 warm.
thank you sir i was just thinking and getting ideas about to get ready for the winter then you posted this video awesome appreciate the time you take to share your knowledge
Our dog dug around in the straw and ended up pushing most of it out! My husband put a board up to help keep the straw inside her house, but she still found a way push it out! A door flap will not work, as she will rip it down and shred it! So many options for heat, but having a chewing/shredding machine we have ran out of options! Help!
Trevor McCarthy I’ve had my kennels for 15 years and never have had a tic or flea problems. Never used a flea and tick collar and I stopped using topicals about 8 years ago.
@@PapapitTV We are farmers in Eastern Washington State and use straw for our Australian Shepherds. Never have had a flea problem. Straw is a great insulator and you got it right.
oOSadHollowOo What do you do when you go out to work and it’s snowing? I will go live to a place in Canada that gets very snowy! And I’ll bring my 3 dogs with me. So, I’m nervous!
Hi we live in Kansas it gets super cold. Our Rottweiler just had puppies she's an outside dog how do you recommend we put them outside but keep them warm?
I'm not personally a big fan of the bullies, BUT mad props and MAJOR respect to you sir "Papapit" on this video. Your knowledge and general upkeep of the dogs in your kennel is phenomenal. Can you upload a video on how to properly hang a heat lamp sometime soon that shows proper placement from the dog houses? Keep up the great work!!
Antonio first I want to thank you for your comment I really appreciate it. For the records I have raised and owned ADBA game dogs, AKC Amstaffs, UKC pitbulls and American Bullys. what can I say I love all dogs related to this breed😉. I have had many other breeds, it part of growing up in farm country. To your question I will most definitely do a video on how to hang your heat lamps👍🏽.
I totally understand the love for the bulldog breeds, I raised them for a number of years (10 years), and eventually got into GSD's, Doberman's, and Mals. But I'll always have a soft spot for the bulldog breeds. I like your videos, they are VERY informative and your knowledge and wisdom does indeed come thru the camera brotha. Keep up the good work, will be looking forward to the video hanging the heat lamp.
Kyle it depends on how cold it gets in your part of the world. If you have mild winters the straw is more then enough. I wouldn't use a heat lamp unless it gets very cold and don't place the heat lamp in the igloos because you'll cause a fire.
I use straw and I have two bullies I also install a akoma dog heater and my dog house is an asl collasso dog house when it's 18 outside it gets to about 77 inside
Thank you for posting this. I work at a feed mill. I can’t get threw to people about straw being an insulator. Up off the ground and straw. Thank you sir Also don’t use hay for covering your grass seed. Hay has seeds that will germinate in your lawn. Hay is for feed. Straw everything else
Hay does not keep animals warm only straw does. Your kennel is nice n clean 👌 Yes the straw n elevated houses add much more warmth than ppl realize. Good job!
At what temperature should someone bring their dog inside? I know someone who leaves their dog outside, he is a big dog, and I feel so bad for him I think about him everyday whenever it’s cold out. Anyway they use that kennel cage hay and put it in an igloo house he is never let inside. I just hope he isn’t freezing to death because that would suck
HONEYDIPLEX inadequate shelter and good bedding don’t help matters! In snowy weather, how often would you say I should replace the straw? Like weeks?

Rustam E Hind Khan yes it is and thank you

Getting a adidog sweater will help. It's like $9-12 but pretty warm and easy to put on.
Thank you... now I don't have to clean up the pieces of blanket in my yard
