Dogs are meant to live outside. They have lived outside for centuries. It has been only over the last couple of decades, mainly in the Western world, where dogs have primarily lived inside. The still primarily outside throughout the rest of the world. Yes, dogs are social animals and prefer to be in a pack of....dogs not humans. We have isolated individual dogs and forced them to be our "companions" for our own selfish reasons.

It’s clear you love your dog and would do even more for them in better circumstances. And of course you would never intentionally be cruel to them in any way. It’s just important to remember that the dogs don’t have a direct tap to your brain to access all the good feelings you have for them. Their brain is separate from your brain and they only know what their senses are experiencing.
To get a feel for what their world is like. Take even just a few personal hours, set a timer, and place yourself in the exact habitat that you’ve set up for your dog to enjoy. Take a note of the everything you experience. That the dog might experience too.
“But dog brains and human brains are different!”
That’s right. And many people have devoted a so much of their time into figuring out what those differences are that now anyone can have a good idea of how a dog experiences the world around them. Dogs need to feel proof that we love them, too. Just like anyone else we hope understands how much we care about them

My dogs are 99.9% of the time outdoor dogs. They love being outside they hate being inside they get nervous so we end up leaving them outside. They only come inside if we believe it's too cold or too worm. They will come on their own accord but after about twenty minutes they are very eager to go back outside. They never destroyed or jumped the fence, the only time they do anything destructive is they love moist dirt and the giant hole in my backyard. I think it depends on the dog and the owner. Some dogs are depressed when outside other really love being outside and having their own space.
I'm not saying I don't hang out with them in the back because I do but after 10 minutes they go do their own thing and go lay in a pile of dirt and sleep.

In my country it's actually really uncommon for peopoe to have their dogs indoors (I live in a tropical climate btw). It's a really stupid dynamic if you ask me, but most people here just have dogs so they can chain them up outside and leave them to guard their homes. I have an 8 year old Ridgeback mix, we've had her for literally all her life and she's never been inside our house. She's a really good dog, potty trained to go in the backyard, calm and obedient. But my parents refuse to let her stay inside because of how much she sheds. We have a kennel outside for her to sleep in, she's well fed and we play with her and spend as much time with her as possible. I'd like to think that she's happy with her life outdoors, but I'll always believe that she'd be happier inside.

When it's winter i make sure to buy cedar to spread in her dog house so she can stay warm when she's outside and when it's summer she just digs up a hole by the tree to stay cool lol. I've tried giving her a bed, she has ripped them all or hasn't used any. They were well fed , ran arounf a lot, got lots of love, toys, and all the care. They even had a nice big dog house area for rain and harsh weathers, we had an air conditioning system for the summer. But despite all this whenevee I told people that they were outside dogs people would think we were cruel. A flood cane and we had to move to a condo. One of our dogs passed away (not bc of the flood ) and now we have one german shepherd. I think being an outdoor dog for her was much easier with another dog but now I spend the whole day with her even bc of quarantine. We have a patio area connected to our garage in our condo, its smaller than our huge backyard but circumstances forced us to be in a condo. I feel like people overdoing and overthinking a lot of things these days. If you don't treat your animals like they came out of your womb, they call u an animal abuser. Actually it is simple. People who don't have time for their animals simply shouldn't get any pets at all. That is the most important rule of all. Think it through before you buy a pet. Then decide if you want an outside or inside dog. That also depends on the country you live. I live in Indonesia and it is very warm here all year, so of course we don't have the winter problem here but at evening it cools down a bit an it is nice for animals to be outside. If you live in colder or 4 season countries you have to consider what kind of dog is suitable for that (if u want an outside dog) . Of course he also need a shelter then, everywhere cause it might rain and so on. So yeah, your dog needs dail attention and you should spent time with him. Again, if you don't have any time to spare or take care of your dog properly don't get one. This goes for every animal.
I have turtles, rabbits and a dog and they all live together outside and I feel that they are satisfied and not neglected and can walk around freely all day. At night everyone goes to their place/house so nobody will steal them or whatever might happen at night and when i wake up everyone can walk and play freely again.
So yeah, everything is possible if you do it right, have time and take care of your animals.
Ps: nothing against this video, there are very good advices.

What if the dog WANTS to be outside ? I have a Newfoundland. He does not care if its raining nor snowing. I am not forcing him either way. If he wants in, I let him in. If he wants out, I let him out. He spends about 80% outside in cold weather. Room temp inside the house in winter when the heating is on, seems to warm for him. In summer, during day, he prefers the cooler inside, but sleeps during the night outside. In my opinion, your dog will clearly show you, when or if he wants to be in or out. Spending quality time with your dog, to me, is a separate topic, and has nothing to do, if your dog prefers outside or inside. It becomes and issue, if you force him either way.

There is nothing wrong with dogs being outside.
      That is their natural habitat..
The issues comes in when you put a dog that has always been a pampered indoor dog outside, Because they are not used to watching tier backs to predators.
It is better to have two or more if they are going to be outside..
so they have a companion to watch each others backs..
Start with an electric fence from a pup..

I do take him in if the weather is particularly bad but for the most part hes desperate to get back out as soon as he can. He has a heavily insulated kennel to protect from cold and heat and has constant access to water and regular food.
He gets daily attention and normally helps me (as best he can) when working.
Someone still called animal protection on me despite him being happy and healthy because they never see me walk him down the road.

How can your dogs protect you if they live inside ? normally it depends if you got a familly pet ( like a chiwawa ... ) or a protection dog for my case i have a suiss shepherd and a doggo argentino they live outdoors in the backyard they are meant to protect the house and the yard from any intruder as to mention i live near the beach far from the city my house is wide open with glass windows i would say sometimes i don't feel safe since i live just me and my mother and little sister so with my dogs around they are very alert and very protective towards their territory they know their job is to protect and i feel happy and relaxed.
The thing is you need to teach them when they re young so they can adapt well i remember when i got the swiss shepherd she was 2 months old she was put directly in her place in the back yard so she never yawned but with my dogo argentino we got him at the same age but we kept him inside for a week so when we put him in the back yard next to his big sister he used to yawn all day so he can get in for like half a week ! now he know he isn't allowed to go inside and he knows his place and his task

Sophie Mcdoogal ... Dogs are social beings, and therefore thrive for our human attention. Some people get a second dog, however, if left alone outside, they will then have each other's company (which is good), but both will continue to look for THAT human attention anyways. Besides they will both then get wilder as the animalistic predispositions kick-in.
I usually challenge people with a very personal question of, why is it that you need your dog to be an outside dog only? The answer may shock you. At the end of the day, your dog will not thrive in that environment. Think it through. Good luck with your decision.

It's So weird how pet dogs here in India behave compared to bred dogs of the west. I have 2 one year old pariah dogs. They stay in the garage or roam the backyard acting as guards. I open the gate and they stay near me wherever I go without leashes. Some days I don't leave the house and let them out. They roam the neighbourhood, play, explore and come back and wait for me to open the gate. They know how to navigate and interact with street dogs and humans. Exposure to 'unfriendly' humans influence their behaviour around strangers and they don't just go sniffing and jumping on anybody on the streets and they don't enter the grocery store or anything like that. They were born to live independently as scavengers or hunt small prey but make for excellence low maintenance pets that also happen to be very territorial and protective of their "human" family. I think any animal shines in it's natural habitat and the indian pariah dog is a fine example of evolution trumping selective breeding

As far as people complaining it’s too hot outside, a lot of people were raised without air conditioning, it was life, we survived as humans. Animals are meant to survive outside. Chickens, ducks, rabbits, cats, dogs etc, You name is. It’s only been in the last 10 years or so that people try and make leaving your animals outside inhumane. I personally think it’s in humane to leave a dog trapped in the house all day long. It’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard. Our animals are only sensitive because their owners are sensitive, animals tend to have anxiety because their owners have anxiety, dogs are babies because their owners make them babies that’s why farm animals/ working animals are completely different. People deciding to leave their animals in or outside of their homes is the owners decision and shouldn’t be looked down upon or praised either way. The goal is to make sure your animals are well taken care of, that’s the point because everything past this is just simply your own opinion. Dogs are not humans and I believe that is mostly the problem, they are treated like humans instead of animals. Love them and respect them and they will do the same, but everyone stance on indoor or outdoor animals it’s completely a preference. And I believe people that think differently needs to be respected and people that think one way need to get over it. It’s none ya business anyways

I loved your video... I have a problem... I grew up only having outside pets... I think my parents used them more for pest control... Cats... I need like 2 or 3 cats... Snakes... lol but I want a dog... I am a Military Vet... I have been told that I could get a service dog... I don’t know how I feel about having a indoor pet... cleaning up after them in the home is something my wife will never feel comfortable with and I understand... Fur everywhere... I don’t want to get a service animal because I would not take him many places so I don’t need a dog that can go... I spend most of my time in my yard and just would love to have a companion with me as much as I am in the yard... Dogs calm me, but I feel a dog in the house would have the opposite affect if he bothered my wife in any way... I would like a German Shepherd, but I haven’t gotten one yet because I want to make sure I will be caring for him the best. I want a outdoor dog but I don’t want it to bark all night and be that neighbor... lol thanks again for the great video...

your assumptions are all correct sir. I made a mistake getting a german shepherd... dont get me wrong i love her more than anything and so does my dad but in my culture we are not allowd to have dogs inside. She barks all night and all day when its nearly time for her walks. I wish i could get her inside but trust me if your not going to let your dog be inside then dont get it because then the next 10 years of your life will be chore of you taking it out for walks. I love my dog like crazy but it would be way easier if i could just keep her inside. Also if you keep your dog inside then the training that you do with her would be a lot easier. And if i were you thne i would get the service dog if i could

Honestly i want him to be inside with me but he's a wolfdog and despite my attempts he just doesn't like closed spaces, and i don't want to stress him, so i'll just let him be outside until he's willing to come inside, it's up to him.

I have 4 dogs and all are rescued and all were outside dogs. They first one that I brought home at night he went into the crate and out in the morning to do his business. I did this with the other 3 and have never had one problem except the puke a couple of time a year and I can deal with that. I keep them in the house at night with me and they really are a big part of my sanity. I love them dearly.

This is a very short sighted perspective. You don't take into consideration land size, breed type, kennel setup, heating/cooling methods, and other circumstances. Dogs have been domesticated but are still very instinctively survivalist animals. If a healthy dog got lost or went astray 9 times out of 10 it would survive until it ran afoul of a human. This is not totally uncommon. After awhile a lost stray will find a pack of other strays and spend years outdoors until people intervene. How much more could a dog survive in a good kennel with food and regular human interaction. Now if you had said is it good for a dog to be kept out in the yard and ignored everyday then no that wouldn't work. Even so called social breeds could learn to be outdoors if for example other dogs are there. It depends on how the dog was raised. If it sat on a living room couch for years and you decide one day to keep it outdoors fulltime yeah there will be issues. Many dogs breeds would prefer to be outdoors all day if conditions are right. A case could be made for both sides But there are far too many factors to just say oh it's not a good idea at all.
