- Former British commander Richard Kemp says the Israeli Defence Force is fighting “extremely effectively” in Gaza.
Mr Kemp’s comments come as Israel ramps up operations in northern Gaza and the eastern outskirts of Rafah.
“I’m optimistic and confident about Israel’s success in Gaza once it really embarks on the full campaign on in rafah,” Mr Kemp said.
The former British commander sat down with Sky News host Rowan Dean, Rita Panahi and James Morrow to discuss the war in Gaza.

Israel is supposed to give back the land it conquered after having been attacked in 1948 and 1967. A land that assured their security. What about Western countries who kept the land they conquered although they were the attackers?
An example: Britain and the Opium War in China in around 1840. Britain forced China to import opium. China declared opium illegal and wanted to stop the opium trade. Britain attacked China and forced it to trade opium and sign the treaty of Nanjing that gave Hong Kong to the British Empire. Hong Kong was “occupied “for 100 years.
Another example: the Rock of Gibraltar in Spain. It was captured by the British in 1794 and still belongs to Britain...
And what about France and all the colonies they kept for over 100 years, although they were also the attackers? What about some of those colonies that France still occupies? New Caledonia for example.
As for the US, they don’t occupy land, but they put puppets in South American governments and help terrorists. They installed Pinochet in Chile because Allende was caring for the people. You're misleading people. Beni Ganz is not saying "don't enter Raffa" or "stop fighting". The entire government is in favor of fighting in Raffa. Ganz is saying there needs to be a decision as to who will rule Gaza once the fighting is over so that this body can be put in place to fill the power vacuum in areas where the fighting is over and Hamas is trying to return to.

A bit of insight into Israeli politics:
Netanyahu is backed by and closely entangled with the far-Right, ultra-religious political parties. That will always put him at a disadvantage from an international perspective. The religious-Right in Israel has always been a source of strife and disagreement within Israeli society. They're funded by the government (at the expense of tax-payers, of course), they enjoy privileged welfare and tax cuts, they enforce religious laws on the general population, they avoid the mandatory conscription and are generally viewed as parasites. Netanyahu loves them the same way Islamists love the Woke Left. They're political canon fodder. Israel's population is about 25-30% religious and that's an electoral power Netanyahu will never relinquish. He never cared about anything but his own political status and every one of his words and actions were geared towards keeping that status. While true for the vast majority of politicians everywhere, in his case the stakes are often extreme.
That's why just before the Oct 7th attack, Israel was on the brink of civil war. Netanyahu (along with his religious bedfellows) were about to enact a change of law that further divided Israelis, giving the religious parties even more power. After the dust will settle from this war, I'm pretty sure Netanyahu will face fatal consequences for all his past and present failings. He's currently one of the most hated people in Israel, both within the government and without. Personally I hope this will happen soon and, hopefully, a real constitution will be put in place to dethrone the religious parties. At least then some chance for sanity could be permitted in Israeli politics.
Ganz, on the other hand, lacks the backing Netanyahu enjoys and thus will almost always be the weaker opponent. Ganz is constantly butting heads with the religious parties who are used to having their way. What Israel needs is a revolution. Hopefully after they've turned Gaza into a smoking crater.
