I Shot the Sheriff (Live Crossroads 2004) - Eric Clapton - By Jamie Harrison (Lesson in Description)

The lesson includes videos on how to play this song, understanding this style of guitar playing, chords, lyrics, note for note instruction, my studio gear, my microphones, detailed info on my guitar and amp, my thoughts on tone, and tonnes more.
This is one of my all-time favorite live guitar performances and I have wanted to do a full cover of this for years. The song is obviously originally by Bob Marley, but it was also covered in several different configurations by Eric Clapton. The groove is just perfect in this version (although I didn't have Steve Gadd backing me up so I had to alter the groove slightly for it to work) and although it's LONG, it's such an awesome performance. Here's my take on this song with my trusty looper pedal - clean solo is mine and the long solo is Clapton, in my opinion, at his very best! :) Enjoy!
Thanks so much for watching guys! Check out the lesson for this song here: bit.ly/3iYyzFQ
😊
2:32 That must be the greatest single volume swell ever played. Profoundly simple and profoundly powerful.
Was just going to post something like that - glad someone else noticed!

Forced me to giggle with joy. Not gonna lie.
Jamie you're insane. Such a needed person in the guitar community!
Am I the only one who's also interested in his Fashion choices every song haha..
Man's got some hella sleek style.
Haha nope definitely not the only one... I get asked about that every day haha
@@JamieHarrisonGuitar Not saying you won't go far as a Guitarist, but modeling gigs would be a sure way to increase the size of your guitar collection! I'm just saying, Life/The World is strange like that.........
Armaan Sami Rizvi So I've seen him performing in the streets of Galway about 1 1/2 years ago... Some months later I stumbled upon a video of Jamie and I immediately recognized him due to his fashion (Whitout seeing his face or anything) 🤯 Small world it is... and definitely a nice taste of fashion
@@hkguitar1984 Can you expound at all on that comment? I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one that don't know what you mean.
Armaan Sami Rizvi I personally hate his style. Not trying to offend, just adding some variation of opinion to this comment thread
I was blown away by this cover of I Shot The Sheriff,, and decided to try the 9-song course package under the 30-day money back trial period, while under coronavirus lockdown. I am a cheap bastard, and would not have hesitated for a second to ask for a refund if I hadn’t been blown away by the course as well. By day three, I started downloading course materials and videos, fully realizing that by doing so I was forsaking the money back guarantee. The courses are THAT good. I was jamming along with Jamie’s backing track for I Shot the Sheriff using bits and pieces of his solo lesson right away, and that alone was worth the price of admission. Then I started the Little Wing lesson. I’ve played that intro a thousand times, but was amazed at how much fuller, dynamic, and Hendrix-like I sounded after listening to Jamie’s lessons a couple of times. But what really thrills me is that today I started playing Here Comes the Sun on an acoustic, and suddenly that song (which Jamie doesn’t teach and might seem very far removed from Jamie’s style), came alive in new ways, much more dynamic than I had ever gotten it - and I know that it’s directly a result of immersing myself in Jamie’s lessons.
So, if you’ve been playing a few years, and you like Jamie’s covers, and you have time to kill, give the courses a try.
By the way, I didn’t shoot the deputy, but he kinda had it coming.
That tone is to die for
Well he uses nice gear but I think you can easily get close to it ,just set your treble higher than your bass of 2 points, then use a clean boost with just a bit of gain and more treeble boost, and of course a nice fender neck pick up.
Idk, that's just a normal clean tone for me. Imho it would sound better if it sounded more powerful like srv's tone.
Compressor . Always use compressor.
Mexican Fender Strat is the best bang for your buck guitar on the planet
A small price to pay for tone
This guy GETS IT. Never seen this channel/player before. THIS is an example of what having impeccable timing and rhythm serves you as a player.
Eric Clapton has a photo of Bob Marley on his fridge. It's signed by Marley with the words - "I (underlined letter 'I') shot the sheriff!."
Well done, sir.
Keep practicing Jamie, you’ll get there!
😂😂😂
Lol
I'm dead
😁👍🏼
@TheBirchyman1 that was clearly the joke...
I have been listening to this solo for years, never thought I would watch someone copy every note to such a level of precision. You are amazing, thanks for this!
One of the best guitar tones i ever heard
Not only the distortion, the clean too
Aye, brilliant
Jamie - jaw-droppingly brilliant. Glad you chose this song. One of my faves.
I am an Iraqi guy who listens to country and blues I mean big artists and well known guitar killers and to be honest this solo touched my soul more than any other expensive songs
You are amazing bro 💪
I’ve lost count of the amount of times I have watched this now! My partner is actually starting to get sick of hearing it 😂. Thank you Jamie, truly inspiring! Still can’t get the groove but I’m determined I will!
I guessed right. And to think I wasn’t all that excited about the song. I definitely am now. Amazing!
no matter how long it pass, this cover will always be the best ever.
give me chills everytime i come back here.
you are insane
INSANE
who can truly dislike a performance like this...
Why is it that your playing always brings a smile to my face
The perfection of the rhythm of The little syncopated chords starting at 1:20 is just outstanding
I was showing this to my 2 brothers (we all 3 play guitar and have for 10+ years) telling them, listen to eric clapton here and I played this.. But it was you (I thought at first it was Eric), Jamie. Gotta admit, this is insane! One of my favourite guitar plays of all time.
I love your instinct on song choices to teach. They all compliment each other.
Phenomenal as always. 2:25-2:35 is just unbelievable as is everything else
I love how you captured the essence of the song without copying him directly. There were references to Clapton's solo, and it sounded like something he'd play, but it wasn't note for note. Bravo, bravo, and terrific job \m/
What are you talking about? It WAS note for note, and that's the purpose of the video

A cover of Hey Joe would be great ! With your style in it. Also John Mayer - Aint no sunshine (live at crossroads) ! Really curious what you could come up with.
I'd easily pay double to learn Aint no sunshine (live at cross roads) there's no tutorials avaliable as well! Keep up the great work Jamie!
By far the two songs i wish him to cover the most!!
Lets hype up that comment :D
Please!!
Me too bro
200% agree with the John Mayer one, one of my favorite
This chap is a true gentleman and a genius - lessons are very well structured an Irish legend in my opinion - worthy of your time sláinte my man

The best versión I have ever heard of this song, the feeling, the expresión and the dynamics that bring it to the climax each time are incredible, the use of Delay transforms it into a piece of legend
I haven't skipped watching this video not even for a single day. Great work Jamie
U make it look so easy that your hidden facial expressions is probably just a deep stare. Incredible as always Jamie
My favorite EC solo of all time, and a phenomenal job of disecting a ridiculously difficult solo. The Hyde park version is phenomenal as well!
Lol yeah the one where he kept the rhythm even when steve gadd screwed up lol
Who would of thought a very talented man from Ireland by the name of Jamie Harrison would have the most smoothest guitar covers on RUclips, cheers from Kilkenny lad, love the playing !
I think he is now on par with pilky27. Love both of their work
Both have serious desireable tones
Day 10 of quarantine, got drunk and played air guitar in my living room to all this guy's videos.
I've had this on repeat - it's very cool to hear someone's take on a very iconic solo and one of my favorites of all time. Nice one!
Jamie the groove on this is beyond this world can't get enough of it. Kudos for your amazing work and keeping us all entertained, motivated and pushing (y)
Also I'm very happy that you've taken your time learning Eric Clapton style in depth....I'm happy that there's someone who knows how to homage him in a much deserved way!
This guy is so in Fire i love how he slays all of these solos with that hell of a clear Sound. Love all Covers by you keep rocking bro🤘🔥
I've been listening to this on repeat for the past 24 hours, it's sooooo good!!! I'm a real beginner at guitar but once I feel more comfortable I'm getting that lesson. Playing this song is one of my dreams.
Amazing work man!
Man this is great, id love to learn the 2010 - that sh*ts off the walls. Any more clapton would be great!
You can’t fully enjoy this cover without listening to it with headphones on. Absolutely magnificent
Holy smokes Jamie. Absolutely killed it dude. Can’t wait to get started on this course. Top notch as always Sir.
I regret not buying a bundle from this guy, I’ve been grabbing individual songs, then I listen to another and I’m like damn I NEED to learn this to. His lessons are top notch, I’ve learned a ton. Huge inspiration & motivation to get up to his level. Cheers
This is the best cover of Wonderwall i've ever seen
🤣
This is seriously some of the best music I've heard in a long time... I'm glad I found you on spotify.
and the legend of Jamie continues
Amazing! And unbelievable, that EC plays this live out of nothing but his feeling for a song
I dont see any Smoke on the Water cover, so I'm still sceptic of how good you are haha
Too beautiful, and the improvisation, the feeling behind it. Simply incredible
Fire Jamie 🔥🔥🔥🔥😭 Got my grandparents dancing
I'm so happy you did this! Remember seeing this enchanting performance on the DVD as a 13 year old and I instantly fell in love with everything about the song and their playing. Pure magic. Still jamming those minor and major sevens 14 years later.

This strat rings. Absolutely chimes so clean as well as the playing. Had to watch it again not your older one. Love it
Wow, I got it right and can’t wait for the lesson to show up. Awesome playing!!!!!
This is my absolute favorite Clapton solo. Superb job! I’ll set this as my ultimate guitar learning goal. Thanks for sharing!
Love when this guy uploads a new song.
My fav Clapton solo, man you could be easily become a legend, never stop!
*Thank you. This is awasome. More Eric Clapton please.*
I want you to know that I come back to this jam frequently. Such a great job, perfectly in the groove.
What the actual hell?
Did you just walk down the crossroads and made a pact with the Devil or something?
This is truly one of the most epic things I‘ve ever seen anyone do on guitar!
Glad you finally did a Clapton song and can’t wait to take your lesson!
I truly don’t think I could live in a world without music!
Nothing brings emotion out of me like a good song does, nice work Jamie you have a new subscriber
I used to think I'd like to live in medieval times but then I realized that the only way to listen to music would be to be around someone who plays. Makes me appreciate this era
I am aware of the fact that you are slightly drawn towards the style of hendrix, Srv, mayer etc., in which you are completely amazing. But i’d be happy to see a cover of the live version of Eric johnson’s cliffs of dover.
Your covers are insanely good, keep up the good job, Jamie!
Greetings from Denmark
Jamie that was just brilliant. Eric Clapton has covered over a hundred songs by dozens of artists from Robert Johnson to the Beatles from J.J. Cale to Bob Dylan. While every Clapton cover is unique I've always been a fan of what Eric did with this Bob Marley classic.
My guitar watches this when I’m not home
😂
That dirty little bastard. Lol
Bought the lesson, listen to this track on repeat going to work, favourite arrangement ever. Thanks for inspiring me to reach a new level Jamie.
I can’t believe that the best guitar player on youtube for me covered one of my favorite song
Just purchased the course for this song. Couldn't be happier, everything is explained well and in depth. Definitely worth the small price, because you won't find anything like Jamie's courses on youtube.
Highly Recommended.
Great to hear that sam, and thanks so much for letting us know on here! Enjoy the rest of the course brother!! :)
Goddamn. I’ve always felt that this is one of the best Clapton solo. And finally someone played it and offers a lesson! Dang. Gonna buy that shit. Lol
This is insane. Probably my 20th time listening and i'm still blown away
A cover of Old Love by Clapton and Robert Cray would be amazing
Oh man! I was thinking the same thing too...He should also wear the purple suit while playing it.

Tell me more about his teaching style.. I'd like to buy the entire course but I'm not sure how he conveys his knowledge in the courses. He is a great guitar player. I've been playing a long time I'd finally like to get good. No I mean good enough to even I think so he can get me there.
I would love to thank the coincidence brought me here to this video and being a witness of what just happened!! we're In present of perfection. Can't stop watching it!!
I got the everything bundle. I've been working on this tune and also Wind Cries Mary. Already, I've learned a tonne of stuff, Jamie literally walks you through every single note and how and why it works. He talks through the dynamics and the hard parts and the parts that take some time to master, this is often overlooked and the cause of frustration. I'm learning much faster than how I used to when I would sit down and stare at tabs. Highly recommend his lessons. Would love to see some David Gilmour lessons! Maybe the Pulse version of Comfortably Numb, that's one of the best ever!
5:00 Okay… you definitely sold your soul to the devil! No joke that was the most perfect performance I have ever seen and it was all done by your playing! Nice cover dude.
THANK YOU, Jamie. I got the stress reduction feels now.
Clapton's solo on that one is one of the best things I've ever heard
Imagine being able to just plug in a guitar and play like this! Amazing job man.
It’s a several year (daily practice) commitment at the least to get close. Never really stops. Learn the scales and practice the crap out of them. It’s not as far out of reach as you might think. It’s damn fun when you can just sit like this and make time disappear and emotions flow.
@@BeefNEggs057 Scales are good for getting your speed up. But won't keep you interested for very long. Learning solos and learning why the notes work is a good method of learning
What a great cover. The more often you hear it, the more details you discover. Also great timing. Keep going.
Got it right!!!!!! Cant Wait!!
Feels like christmas :D
Mannnnnn!!! Do you ever disappoint?? Every thing you play is gold!!
Please do a cover and lesson of John Mayer's Aint No Sunshine!
