  • Oh, so many drivers' names that it would take me a week to research them all. Just go Google the results (or watch this vid) and pick your favorite. Mine's actually McNish.
    Note to non-racers: Regardless of what the broadcast team here says, taking your hands off the wheel when you know the car's headed off isn't some sort of social statement. It's to keep from breaking your thumbs or wrists when the damn thing hits something. Watching it again all these years later, I thought Dorsey would have mentioned that.
    I miss the days when there wasn't an instant FCY for a car off the road. IMO, doing the work under a 'local yellow' was enough.
    And of course, "SPEEDVISION!" Among the ads are promos for the network's boat and motorcycle stuff. And even an early promo for Dern hosting "Lost Drive-In".

    I miss these cars especially the Panoz GTR-1 and CLK GTR. My friends used to think it was weird I had model cars of them in my room, but I didn't care, I love motorsports, always have and always will ❤️

    The variety, the colour schemes, and the sounds, oh the sounds! I know GT/Endurance racing is good right now, but i can't help but feel this brief period was better.

    Was there that weekend- hard to believe it was 20 years ago. These are some of my all-time favorite race cars. The Mercs were the business but McNish in the Porsche was the Man. If the Davidoff McLarens had had speed to match their looks, they'd have run off and hid. I can remember Autosport saying how '97 was a great year for sportscars and this last race of the year was proof of that.

      I personally prefer the BMW Motorsport "Works McLaren's" livery to GTC Competition's but its all a matter of personal taste the Lark livery of Parabolica Motorsports used at Le Mans in 1997 was also great it was indeed a great era of GT racing from 1993-1999 perhaps it will never be bettered and the development you had from production supercars lightly modified for racing such as the Jaguar XJ220 to purpose built GT1 racers which were racing cars first road cars as an afterthought like the Toyota Gt-One it was all great from the BPR to the FIA GT via the British GT and Le Mans in between luckily we have videogames where we can re-live the memories.

    This was one of my favorite racing classes to watch all time. All of the different cars are now conaidered classics and the few street legal versions that they were required to make are all near the top of my list of cars that I would want if finances allowed me to have a garage full of million dollar cars. Eapecially the Mclaren F1. Several million for that one, even more for one of the ultra rare long tail versions, but just the fact that you sit in the middle and can bring 2 buddies for a cruise is awesome. That and the fact the inside of the engine bay doesnt have regular tin foil type heating shields, but they opted to line them in real gold stuff because it works just that much better.

      Turbo cars had worse air restrictor imposed by FIA, and this was specially true in the 911 Gt1s ( 993, 996 Gt1 and EVO) that had 30-50 hp less than mercedez and F1s

    I know this is a long shot, but do you happen to have any media from the IMSA races on the same weekend? Either the GT or WSC rounds. I'm particularly fascinated by the GT round as it was a neck-to-neck fight between Panoz and Lotus.

    • @bobaloochi
      @bobaloochi 8 лет назад +5

      VHS tapes aren't the most optimal way to store things, they don't exactly capture everything and they lose data over time, as well as losing some data every time they are played, IIRC.

    • @oldsccaguyyah9901
      @oldsccaguyyah9901  8 лет назад +3

      Well, that's VHS for ya. It's not the signal..it's the way I recorded it. This race was actually on cable, it was better than broadcast! bobaloochi got it right in his comment, but only tells half the story. This particular tape had been stored in a non-climate controlled mini-storage shed for ten years or so, and more than a few cheap rental house closets & garages since then. Also, the VHS machine I'm using is the last one I ever bought new (in 1995!), and is a perfect example of an end stage obsolescent technology. It has 'bells & whistles' like automatic tracking, and really starts to panic if the tape isn't in good condition.
