I was at that race, too. Remember the track being short and tight. That was a long time and I do remember having a great time and seeing some excellent equipment. Seems like a long time ago now.

I was at this race in the grandstands just past where Geoff Brabham hit the wall, and saw it happen. It looked as bad from there, and I'd thought he got clipped, but see now that it was, as he said, "driver error." Great facility and fun times back then. Unfortunately the Del Mar circuit is in a valley, and lots of people complained about the noise, which eventually killed the race. i heard they offered free weekends at Disneyland to any neighbors of the track, but no go. They also had sprint car races on the oval horse track, which was dirt, but that didn't last long either. Anyway, thanks for the great videos!!

Can't get enough of GTP racing. West Palm Beach 1987 found its way onto the tube thanks to +theRewinder. Keep them coming, I'm in my element watching them over and over again 😎

i was there for the weekend came down from LA i remember sneaking thru a hole in the spectator fence right outside the last turn onto the pit straight and i could pop up to an unattended opening in the track fencing and get clear pics with no fencing blur.... The sight and FEEL of the GTP nissans++ heading STRAIGHT at you out of that last chicane and then hooking right ( my left) out of frame was intoxicating i snuck back there a cpl of times for practice and quali and when i got in again during the race they finally snagged me and booted me out ..
what a great weekend ! to see heroic cars like the Nissan, i fell in love with the Group 44 Jag's, Porshe 962's, the Vette GTP was just a beautiful design..+ all the . Tigas & Fabcars & Spice chassis! Great Days.

I think Misterbones has a better copy of this. I've been told to upload everything I can find, though..so here's my own.
R.J.R. exec doesn't seem to know how to rock Start Your Engines!! Economaki tells Cap'n Clueless "thanks" for trying it anyway.
Only one Jag! Seems Davy put the thing off during practice, and spends most of race day in the ESPN booth.
Peerless Corvette sighting! Hobbsy and Baldwin find a paid ride.
Wollek for Jim's bunch, and Ludwig for Bruce.
Geoff just never gets the handle on the thing in this cattle trough of a circuit, too bad Derek couldn't really get the other one up front. Brabham was already the Drivers' Champ..a little more from the team car, and they could have won the Manufacturers' Crown as well.
Is this the first video evidence that the insipid pavement sealer doesn't really work?
Good dices later in the race! Geoff & Klaus before Geoff loses the handle into the wall. Martin & Bob work it, too.
Eventually, Brundle gets his own spin & win. Looked pretty cool coming back up the field. I think what astounded us at the time was that it was only Jag's 2nd win of the year. We knew the chassis didn't really lend itself to GTP.. so many short courses, and short races!, but we never saw Electramotive coming. Man, what a car.
