you first need to create a dos bootable usb drive then copy the bios exe to it

Hi, I've unintentionally upgraded my laptop BIOS to A22 yesterday and I've noticed that the computer does not go to sleep when I command it to, suffice to say that it always went to sleep mode and would wake up without a trouble. Now it just shuts down in a not secure way... I've been searching everywhere to why and I think it was really the BIOS update that triggered this behavior. Went through all your steps to downgrade the BIOS (used A19 as I think it was the version I had previously) and even using /forceit command or /s /f it doesn't downgrade it... When it gets to the "Preparing to Update" loading stage, the laptop just reboots normally. *sigh*
Any ideas of how could I downgrade the BIOS in a different way? Laptop is a Dell Latitude E6520.
    Thank you in advance

      Hello
      topicsx,
I'm going to star saying "It is not advisable to downgrade the Bios version of a computer unless it is due to company policies or something it is not working correctly, because teh downgrade process may render your computer unusable". Now having said that, you can try updating the Bios version using a WinPe USB, I have a video for that: ruclips.net/video/GlrZhRkUYG8/видео.html
      Hope it helps
      Thanks for the comment!

@@MyITWorkshop Hi again, thank you for your help. I understand you saying that downgrading the Bios is not advisable, but in my case I don't see any option since I think the new Bios does not support one of the S3 sleep states somehow... I followed your advice and since I am currently using windows 8.1 on this machine I had to install ADK instead AIK but could execute the bios update .exe after booting the WinPe usb drive.
My steps were: copype amd64 (since my machine is 64bit based) to new WinPE folder, mounted .wim file of WinPEfolder, added bios update .exe, unmounted .wim file, made bootable usb through MakeWinPEMedia /UFD, booted computer through USB Drive, and executed the bios update .exe with /forceit in the cmd of wpeinit. Got the following message: "The subsystem needed to support the image type is not present".
Could it be that I should have used x86 instead of amd64?
Thank you again for your support

Ok, tried with the x86 PE and it did the trick of executing the bios update. It loads the file and reboots, but just boots up normally :( running out of ideas... Makes me think that dell has put some code to disable any kind of bios downgrading

      @@topicsx Hi,
Yes, that's 100% true, that happens when the latest Bios update fixes 1 or many vulnerabilities. Therefore, the manufacturer, HP/DELL/ASUS etc, locks the the Bios downgrading process. They do this in order to avoid the system being exposed again.

    • @MyITWorkshop
      @MyITWorkshop  4 года назад

@@topicsx Now, the last thing I would try, if you are using windows as your OS, is try downgrading it from Windows itself, download the Bios update .exe file and just run it.
I have to repeat this again: "generally, it is not a good idea to downgrade your computer bios version for it may render it unusable"
      Thanks for the comment!

      Hello Night Diver TV,
It is not advisable to downgrade the Bios version of a computer unless it is due to company policies or something it is not working correctly with your computer after a Bios update.
If none of the above is true. Then, i do not see the point of doing it.
The short answer is: Downgrading your computer Bios version might render your computer unusable.
      Hope it helps.
