Great Video. I recently purchased an old Dell Vostro 220. I tried for two days to update the bios. In my case, I got the usb drive to boot but what I didn't know was the file with the bios update got renamed, so I couldn't run it. When I saw you run the command "dir" for showing the directory, I saw the actual name of the file, and then I could run said file. Bravo!

    • @JEYMS

Which file did you change the name ? Did you change it in the usb drive or with the command line ?
I cannot use my keyboard when booting so I am trying to update my bios to restore keyboard function, but because of that I cannot use "dir" command line..
      Thanks

Savage!I been scratching my head for a few day trying to update my bios due to the notorious dell black screen due to corrupted bios. I was able to finally resolve my issue many thanks. FYI I personally disabled virtualization in bios because i read it on the dell forums that it is most often the problem. Some even claim to upgrade the bios directly from windows with virtualization disabled. It will just prompt you to restart your pc and then the upgrade process will begin.once it is complete it will reboot once more and you can boot into bios and re-enable virtualization

My friend's Dell laptop was super slow, so I performed various optimization processes and got it back to normal running faster. However, at the very end I updated various drivers from Dell's website, and I left the BIOS update to the very end. Well, after the BIOS update, the laptop started working super slow once again. To be honest, I can't tell for sure if the BIOS update is the culprit. What would you recommend I do next, should I downgrade the BIOS, or should I re do the BIOS update process once again, just in case it's corrupted?

      Hi Eduardo,
Something that improves the operating system speed dramatically is replacing the mechanical hard drive (HDD) for a Solid State Drive (SSD) on a laptop or desktop computer. Now, I have a video for cloning HDD to SSD using free software:
      ruclips.net/video/VQ9jQd-SeJw/видео.html
Before doing that, I would run the antivirus to make sure we are safe on that side.
I do not think the Bios update is the reason for the computer's slowness. Besides, downgrading the Bios version MIGHT damage the computer. However, If you really, really need to do it I also have a video for that:
      ruclips.net/video/jmw6-K2bcBM/видео.html
Finally, if replacing the HDD for a SSD or just replacing the HDD for a new one is off the table. I would reinstall windows on the laptop. However, i have done that many times in the past and the speed does not increase much......
      Thanks for the comment!

@@MyITWorkshop I really appreciate the information, I'll check out the videos you mentioned. And regarding the issue, last night I performed (again) a disc defragmentation and it took several hours, but the speed improved drastically. On the other hand, I found out that Avast was also slowing it down during the boosting and restarting process, so I customized some of the unnecessary options they have in it, and now works even faster.

How do I upgrade the Bios on my Optiplex 745 with Windows 10 Pro 64 bit?

  • @ChoVE_Official
    @ChoVE_Official 2 года назад +2

I have a Dell OptiPlex 790 Desktop, but it has a locked BIOS, that's how they sold it to me, I get an error saying ... SYSTEM NUMBER: xxxxxx I try to unlock it using the master key from the BIOS page, but it won't grab it, try to use this method but to continue with the flashing it also asks me for the password.
What can I do in that case and tried everything from removing the battery to updating the bios but everything asks me for a password, this PC does not have a Jumper.

    • @MyITWorkshop
      @MyITWorkshop  2 года назад

      Hello,
It’s kinda unusual that it does not have a jumper to clean the bios password. Something you can try is: with the power cable connected to the wall, but the computer is turned off, press the power button for 30 secs. If it works, it will reset all the settings in the BIOS to factory settings.
      Thanks for the comment.

  • @Matt2010

Well, I'll be getting a refurbished Optiplex 790 and it has no hard drives. So no windows either. Is there a nonbootable USB flash drive flashing that bios just through USB storage if needed I'm double-checking everything before I even attempt to try including checking the bios version and other settings, like making sure secure boot is disabled and AHCI mode only, and so forth? Legacy also as well with it enabled. I so hope someone who'll sees this will know and kindly answer. Thanks.

So I am stuck with a Dell laptop.
Their BIOS files come as .exe.
They tell the user to place the download on the computer's desktop and simply DoubleClick it to run the process.
However, doing so I only get error messages such as "cannot load the driver - C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\WINPHLASH\PHLASHNT.SYS:", and "please check your accounts, if you have no administrator proviledge, please login again! Error code 1275." (Sure I am the computer's admin.)
There is some option to browse for the file in a folder "Winphlash", but there I need a file with the extension .rom, which I neither have, nor can create by converting the original file.
    That's kinda messy ....

      Hello Jeyms,
      These are somethings to try:
      1) Use a wired keyboard if you, like me, use a wireless one.
      2) Try all other USB ports on the computer.
      3) Try another keyboard.
      4) Make sure "USB Emulation" option is ON in BIOS setup.
Can't remember under what tab this option is located, but it exists.
      5) Shut down the computer, disconnect the power supply/battery, disconnect all peripherals. Next, press the power button for around 15 seconds, release it, connect everything again and see if that fixes the problem. This action gets rid of the power stored in the capacitors.
      6) I would try another USB thumb drive or brand to create the bootable USB.
      7) I would also run Dell diagnostics on the computer to see if everything is working correctly.
That's what I can think of right now...
      Hope it helps.

      Hi Emil,
That's true, you can con do it from Windows itself, i have done some videos about that in the past.
Now, when you update the BIOS version from a bootable USB you don't have to know what OS is installed on the system. It may be some flavor of Linux or some variation of Windows, you don't even need to access the OS. Besides, if you handle multiple brands and models, It is easier to just know the PC/Laptop model, download the latest Bios version copy it to the USB drive and update it.
Now, there is an even more efficient way. Update it through the network, multiple computers at the same time.
I am learning how to do it and I hope to post it on the channel in the future.
      Thanks for the comment!

      Hello Toxosan,
Starting at 4:36 i show what models are compatible with this tool, normally you need to know the family for example: Inspiron, latitude, vostro, etc. Now, most Dell models are compatible with this method unless it is a super old one or simply it isn’t.
If am not mistaken your 7010 should be an Optiplex.
About the video card, as long as the motherboard has the socket for it, typically DDR5, it will work with no problems even with and old Bios.
In the odd case that the video card did not work and you know it does, i would take it out and update the Bios version. However, like i said, that’s not likely.
      Thanks for the comment!

I updated the same model, dont remember the generation in one of my videos some time ago, it worked with no problems, however, i cant guarantee that for all gens. The psu, as long as it has enough watts/power to feed the demands of the coMputer there are no problems there, psu are standard.......in most cases.
      Hope it helps!

You may have to use and I assume you tried the unetbootin method yea many say that doesn't work. But CLI on Linux with the dd command appears to work a lot if doing the FreeDOS way.

      @MyITWorkshop  5 лет назад

@@redrakham8060 I am glad it worked!
The "Virtualization option" when it is enabled allows your computer to run Virtual Machines. Let's say you have win 7, while you are logged in your session you can create more VMs that run Linux, other win 7 or and (if you can find it) wind 95. All of them at the same time. Now, as may imagine it also depends on the capacity of your Processor, Ram, Hard Drive. Besides, old computers/processors do not have that option. Virtualization is a great thing!

Hi Hec Tor, did you try to format the Usb Thumb drive? right click on the USB , format, choose either Fat 32 or NTFS , you can give it a name and Start.
The format process should restore your USB drive to its original capacity.
