A tragic loss when beautiful Brigid Bazlen passed away from cancer at the age of only 44 years! She made three noteworthy films, but the role of Salome is her best role! Such an attractive young woman!
Supposedly she was not able to dance, and Miklos Rozsa expressed frustration in his memoir about that. In actual fact, she's ideal and her dance is perfect for its natural innocence. The great Brigid Bazlen, passed too soon. Superb scene, brilliant score and cinematography. Top class.
I enjoyed Brigid's version of Salome. She plays her like an ice-cold psychopath which makes sense. For the haters: They had very strict censorship at that time, so her dance couldn't have been much more exciting.

This scene is absolutely wonderfully perfectly made in this movie!!! Brigid Bazlen was born to do this movie! Watched this on September 16th 2023 1:54am EST One of my favorite scenes in this movie ❤❤❤💃😍🤩
I really love the part where Salome gives her best dance and she charmed the king so much that he had no choice but to give him what he wanted so much, and everyone fell in love, including the spectators
It seems a lot of people in the comments don't like her dance, which I can't understand because I love it! I've watched several Salome dances, from movies and live performances, and this one is in my top favorites. I think the dance is interesting, I especially like the first half. The actress is a perfect Salome, young and seemingly uncaring, frivolous, and toying in her dance. I really like her costume as well, the gold and tangerine color are beautiful paired with her raven hair, and mischievous seductive eyes! Although, I do also enjoy the Salome dances that incorporate thin, flowing and shimmery veils, and more traditional belly dancing.
In the movie from dusk till dawn , A woman does the dance of Salome unnamed as such...I've forgotten her name..latin woman...Tarentino film..ah yes, Salma Hayek. Any stripper is the same...
Live performances where they actually strip completely naked down to the very last robe as Oscar Wilde's play/dance originally intended yes this was all Oscar Wilde's imagination and creation in the 19th century and has no Biblical or historical basis whatsoever but that it actually surpasses the on stage play performance is a hard sell. They have them on RUclips so based on the ones I've seen your assertion is kind of ludicrous but the actress did the best she could with what she had and it works for what it is which again has no bearing on actual history besides being Oscar Wilde's 19th century wet dream.
I understand why this dance in this movie divides so many opinions. In some parts the dancing is amazing, but in others it's comical and embarrassing. Her dance on the throne was spectacular.
I understand what you mean, but look how her childish and sloppy way of dancing suddenly changes into a decided sexual boldness when she runs up to the throne. Almost threatening the king with dethroning him at his thoughtless request based on the lust he felt for his own stepdaughter and niece. She is a girl-woman who gradually decides to show her claws. I thought it was brilliant!

Yes and after seeing this fragment like 20 years ago i thought Salome wanted it herself. Herodias was a bitch. Brigid Bazlen (Salome) was only 17 when this was filmed "King of Kings" (1961). Brigid was born in Wisconsin of German ancestry. She was described as a "young Elizabeth Taylor." I think Elizabeth had a much more beautiful face and, of course, those extraordinary violet blue eyes. Brigid's eyes appear to be amber/green hazel. Not much of a dancer, but very pretty.

Was the offer of anything she wants incentive to dance? I remember it as Herod was so moved/horned up BY the dance that he made the offer after the fact. Maybe I'm remembering it wrong. But I'm pretty sure the payment being John the Baptist's head was her mother's idea, and that Salome herself didn't care much one way or the other. She was trying to please her momma. That's the Bible story.
I saw this at 5 in the early 90s . I knew at a young age what an evil women looked and behaved like . This scene was burned into my head. Its a good representation of the evil women in pop culture , Hollywood, music, and entertainment in general. Lord help our daughters.
This movie was from King of Kings, where actor Jeffrey Hunter played the part of Jesus. It is a very good movie. These biblical movies during this time, had the beautiful technicolor scenes and costumes as well as very well know A list actors and actresses. The Ten Commandments, Ben- Hur, Samson and Deliah, The Robe, Sodom and Gomorrah, David and Bathsheba, The Bible are movies we remember and watch over and over. Salome was used by her mother to be the beautiful seductress to captivate King Herod and he told her he would give her anything she asked for even to the half of his kingdom. Her mother, Herodias, hated John the Baptist for sternly rebuking King Herod and her publicly for their adulteress affair since she was still the wife of his brother who was still alive. King Herod was caught up in his lust for the sensual and beautiful princess Salome which meant that death would come to God’s faithful servant, John the Baptist.
Sorry, but this is a pretty cheesy movie. Ben Hur holds up pretty well, tho it has some pretty sucky moments too. King of Kings ain't no Ben Hur. Jeffrey Hunter as Jesus. Lol. Pretty boy white guy much?
@@brucemacmillan7128 .. The best Jesus movies are Jesus of Nazareth, and The Passion of the Christ.... To me, Ben Hur was one of the best movies ever made and The Ten Commandments.
@@aleciabjorlie3103 I never saw Mel Gibson's torture porn movie (aka The Passion), but I certainly know a lot about it. Jesus of Nazareth was pretty good I suppose, but all Jesus portrayals are at least somewhat suspect, considering how much baggage the character comes with. 2000 years worth. One of the main reasons Ben Hur was pretty good is cuz the Jesus character wasn't central to the movie and thankfully never spoke. Tho I certainly wished that Balthazar character would've shut his yap. Boy was he annoying. They should've crucified him too. As for Ten Commandments, the cheese factor in that movie was pretty massive. There is no comparison between Ben Hur and TC. TC was rather a joke by comparison. Anyway, I'm an atheist, so don't expect me to take any of this stuff seriously.
@@brucemacmillan7128 I mean, it IS an old movie....cheesiness was all what these old movies were. Also, you have to take into account when they were creating the Jesus character for these movies, it was account for what was MADE back then. He is SUPPOSE to be pretty, I mean, taken into account what they're basing the source material from (not to mention, I suspect the audience is a mix for Christian based and the average movie goer trying to enjoy a epic story). Also Ben Hur is a WAY different than TC and King of Kings. Same scales of epic movies yes but DIFFERENT stories. Ben Hur was also based on BEN HUR...not Jesus of course. It's kind of like how Siddhartha is (basically a story about a character who finds his own spiritual enlightment yet follows parallel events with the Buddha).
I liked the take on this story from the novel The Moon Under Her Feet. Salome's dance was ceremonial and was supposed to represent Inanna/Ashera's descent into the Underworld, each veil dropped representing the goddess losing a piece of her regalia.
Prompted by her mother, Herodias, who was infuriated by John's condemnation of her marriage, the girl demanded the head of John the Baptist on a platter, and the unwilling Herod was forced by his oath to have John beheaded. Salome took the platter with John's head and gave it to her mother.
In the movie Brigid Baslen as Salome asks John when he is imprisoned if he would like her to visit him in his cave and he refuses and insults her,if it was me Id have said yes please princess Salome EVERY DAY!
Clearly he knew the temptation of a girl that incredibly beautiful would be almost impossible to resist. Its certainly tragic that in many instances the inner beauty is nowhere near as great as the outer beauty. I wonder if the actual Salome was that beautiful? Please see my Genesis 6 Sons of God, The Nephilim & Biblical Origins of The Occult playlist.
Typical: a woman cheats on her husband for a more powerful and rich man. However that rich man falls for the first girl he meets, almost becoming her slave. Karma

Yeah she does look a lot like Liz Taylor in Cleopatra. Good to see the Aussie actor Frank Thring as the leacherous king. Thring also played the announcer of the contestants for the chariot race at the Circus Maximus in the movie Ben Hur.
I actually really liked this version of the dance! I am not an expert on belly dancing, but it seemed quite impressive, even if it wasn't accurate. The film seems like it's steeped in stereotypes, but I mean, it was made in 1961, so I don't know what else one could expect. The actress is beautiful as well. RIP her, and I hope her family has found peace!
I always loved her performance. She's just gorgeous and I remember seeing this movie as a kid and saying I wanted to be Salome because she was pretty and has a cool outfit. Great movie overall
I rather liked this. I found this sexy when I was in high school in the 1990s and honestly this was about as sexual as they could get in 1961 because of the censors. I have always thought that the New Testament was suggesting that Salome did a lot more for old Antipas to get John the Baptist executed then simply a sexy dance. Plus, I agree with stefanie3831 that Brigid Bazlen does a good job playing Salome as a monster as she is depicted in the Bible.
He was willing to offer half of his kingdom, I think she should have been fined for such a performance.
Lmaoooo yoooo!!-!
I saw this at 5 in the early 90s . I knew at a young age what an evil women looked and behaved like . This scene was burned into my head. Its a good representation of the evil women in pop culture , Hollywood, music, and entertainment in general. Lord help our daughters.
Did anyone ever tell you you're a simp and an idiot? Cuz you are.
Yes!
@@brucemacmillan9581 Stop using simp out context. This comment is the opposite of simping 😐

The actress playing "Salome" is perfect for ‘Orange, the biblical Black?
Shaquille Staley THANKS

For an erotic fictionalized version of her dance yes
BEAUTIFUL
People are talking about this witch dance. Poor John was beheaded because of her mother. So evil.
😅
Yep. The way I always heard it is her mother told her to dance for hum and ask for John's head.
lol witch dance. Don’t worry, most of the Bible isn’t true.
This movie was from King of Kings, where actor Jeffrey Hunter played the part of Jesus. It is a very good movie. These biblical movies during this time, had the beautiful technicolor scenes and costumes as well as very well know A list actors and actresses. The Ten Commandments, Ben- Hur, Samson and Deliah, The Robe,
Sodom and Gomorrah, David and Bathsheba, The Bible are movies we remember and watch over and over.
The name should have "Whorerodias"
"Bring me the head of John the Baptist."
Yes
Dude should have said this instead: I’ll give you ALMOST anything you want - that way he leaves himself some wiggle room.
True
I know right
I liked the take on this story from the novel The Moon Under Her Feet. Salome's dance was ceremonial and was supposed to represent Inanna/Ashera's descent into the Underworld, each veil dropped representing the goddess losing a piece of her regalia.
Beautiful and loved her dancing. Seducing that poor man for a head of John the Baptist
Prompted by her mother, Herodias, who was infuriated by John's condemnation of her marriage, the girl demanded the head of John the Baptist on a platter, and the unwilling Herod was forced by his oath to have John beheaded. Salome took the platter with John's head and gave it to her mother.
..yeh so did this happen because Salome mother was betrayed by her husband dumping her for a young fresh conquest...
Fun Fact: Brigid Bazlen, the actress playing Salome, was born in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin 😉
OKHomoRose at 1944
But was she half African American?
No
She died of cancer at 44.
What's so fun about being born in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin?
At first i tought she was Elisabet Taylor.
Featuring Frank Thring as Herod and Rita Gam as Heriodias.
I used to do this dance all over the living room furniture as an adolescent ! 😆
Brigid Baslen will always be the best
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Imagine if this had been filmed today and she was twerking instead 🤣
Honestly the dance was kinda stupid.
Right. 😂
😂😂😂😂
I'm would never imagine a person with that vocabulary would even be here.
No, but funny
Elizabeth Taylor certainly was a stunning multi-faceted actress.
YES SHE WAS-BUT SHE WAS NOT IN THIS MOVIE
However that rich man falls for the first girl he meets, almost becoming her slave.

i love that colour orange its beautiful
She died at about 45 years old.
Most gorgeous salome ever
She looks like Liz Taylor 😲
They had Liz in mind for the role, but couldn't afford her.
Eye always the eye liz are blue purple
@@zephyrcublee
She had deep blue eyes not purple.
@@aliceberntsson1635 yes blue I always thought they looked a bit purple deep.. but definitely a color of eye NOT TERRIBLY. COMMON PEOPLE HAD COMPARED HER EYES TO A TANZINITE STONE SHE WAS GIVIN BY R BURTON AND I THINK THAT LOOKS LIKE PURPLE UNDERTONES. EITHER WAY QUITE BEAUTIFUL. I CANT THINK OF ANYONE OFF HAND FAMOUS OR OTHERWISE WITH COMPARABLE EYE COLOR OF THE E.TAYLOR HUE.
@@billmurray7473
It's a good thing Miss Taylor wasn't chosen for the part of Salome. That would have been a serious case of miscasting, because Salome was supposedly in her teens at the time that John The Baptist was imprisoned by King Herod. Liz Taylor would have been too old for the role.
I think her dance was probably along the lines of that time. She did fine
Somewhat I imagine. Perhaps it was a true tease that got racier as things builded up more.
Is it just me that actresses from old films look so prettiet. And hotter if I think that cosmetic enhancements are not like it is today
This is how wicked woman can be, and how lustful men can be.
VERY VERY TRUE

EXCELLENT COMMENT 9 MONTHS AGO
0:25 She looks very much like Bjork!
Reva FoSho exactly what I was thinking. She's like a mix between Bjork and Elizabeth Taylor
She was gorgeous and her dance was much better than the one shown in “The Chosen”.
Yeah she does look a lot like Liz Taylor in Cleopatra. Good to see the Aussie actor Frank Thring as the leacherous king. Thring also played the announcer of the contestants for the chariot race at the Circus Maximus in the movie Ben Hur.
Wow, he maybe should have asked her to sing or something
I actually really liked this version of the dance! I am not an expert on belly dancing, but it seemed quite impressive, even if it wasn't accurate. The film seems like it's steeped in stereotypes, but I mean, it was made in 1961, so I don't know what else one could expect. The actress is beautiful as well. RIP her, and I hope her family has found peace!
For that fact that Herodian dynasty practised siblings marriage, Salome is looking good. 😋
I always loved her performance. She's just gorgeous and I remember seeing this movie as a kid and saying I wanted to be Salome because she was pretty and has a cool outfit. Great movie overall
I thought her.dancing was great and very seductive.
No matter. Can you dance like that? She played an excellent role !
Brigid Bazlin. Oh my. Impossibly beautiful.
Haha... finally found the scene with the executioner where he rattles his big sword against the bars. Heads up Baptist!
Not all old people are gifted with wisdom or maturity. You sir are to be pitied.
King of Kings / Jeffrey Hunter . Frank Thring always fabulous ! 🤣 Aussie Aussie ! Oi Oi Oi ! 👏👏🦘
Most King's want what they can't have.
she was so beautiful (brigid bazlen)
I rather liked this. I found this sexy when I was in high school in the 1990s and honestly this was about as sexual as they could get in 1961 because of the censors. I have always thought that the New Testament was suggesting that Salome did a lot more for old Antipas to get John the Baptist executed then simply a sexy dance. Plus, I agree with stefanie3831 that Brigid Bazlen does a good job playing Salome as a monster as she is depicted in the Bible.
...and fantastic dance by the way...was that Elisabeth Taylor...
Brigid Bazlen.
Ohh, que gran historia, y ella genial con su dance.
1 OF GOD'S BEAUTIFUL CREATIONS
I CANNOT REVEAL IT, IN MY IMAGINATION, SALOME HERSELF OF HER, PHYSICAL BEAUTY
