I grew up with the wii, but missed out on Galaxy. I had Mario Kart Wii, NSMBWII, even Mario fricking sports mix. I then got the game on Wii second hand 4 months before 3D All Stars came out. Safe to say I don't regret owning this game twice. What a masterpiece. A good 4/10. Should have been better.
Fun Fact. In Waltz of the Boos, the three notes rising at the beginning ar D E A. Leading into the next part, it spells D E A D. which makes sense cause it's a ghost level or smth
This video changed my life. I stopped drinking, I started going to the gym, and started running 50 mile marathons. Thank you Sir Musty for making me better.
The grandiose intro of the Good Egg Galaxy theme is made all the better because when you first arrive in the Observatory, the Gateway theme plays instead of the observatory theme, a moment of respite and a chance to collect yourself before you're thrust into your grand adventure. And then, the music doesn't start until you actually land on the starting planet in the galaxy… and then it hits you with THAT!
What I find both funny and really cool is, despite being the first mainline Mario game to feature a live orchestra for the music, the game still features alot of synthesized music. They even mix the synths with the orchestra. I love it. There's a reason this is my favourite video game soundtrack of all time
That ending was unexpected but I really appreciate it. I’ve heard my dad and other people say “video games aren’t art but they have art in them”, in reference to the music or visuals. I’ve always had an issue with this argument though, because I see video games as one of the most versatile mediums in storytelling. You get to experience the world firsthand. The character’s decision is yours to make. In a more linear game like Mario Galaxy, the appeal is definitely the music and atmosphere, but most of the levels are fun to play. When I use one of those blue stars in Space Junk Galaxy, I feel helpless. Surrendered to the endless void with no platform to rely on. Art is meant to evoke emotion and Mario Galaxy has had a stronger effect on me than almost any other game or film. It is art without a doubt.
Just finished watching, and it was an enjoyable ride! Can’t complain about any of your placements at all! There’s no denying that this game’s OST is phenomenal! Hoping you’ll do Super Mario Galaxy 2 soon! It’s my favorite of the Galaxy games!
OK i admit I only came here because I saw you were using my tiermaker template. I spent a whole afternoon and evening making those icons one day in freshman year and it was not worth the crunch time later that week, but I just love this game and these songs so much. This is one of few video games that can make me cry, and the soundtrack is a huge part of it. Despite the hardships I main Rosalina in smash (mid tier as hell) out of loyalty for the game that raised me. Also, I have to defend Kingfin 42:38, he's always been one of my favorites (though no one beats Bouldergeist), that's why I made extra effort to include both of them in the icon for their track. Also, with regards to Gusty Garden, I think I have a theory for why it's the de facto motif ever since. I think compared to Battlerock, Buoy Base, and some other themes in this game its mood is the most neutral, so it's the most transplantable. The militaristic drum beat of battlerock and the eerie hum of buoy base might not work in say, the credits theme, or the purple coin theme, or in cloudtop cruise, ya know? That being said it is also one of my favorites. I cried when it came on at the end of the Mario Movie credits But I digress. I came here for the tierlist, but I stayed because you're really funny. *G*ood video, and *G*ood opinions for the most part (GG ;)
As someone who has both Galaxy games in my top 5 favourite games I’ve played with the OST being a top contender for my favourite of all time, I 100% stand behind the Dusty Depot slander, chuck it in the bin. Fantastic work on this, loved hearing all the praise towards this wonderful soundtrack, even made me like Space Junk a little more than I already did.
At first I was like wtf you mean Gusty Garden might be controversial. But your explanation was 10/10. I agree. Bowser’s airship tho is heavily underrated
Im proud to say that SMG was my first ever mario game. Even though I didn't understand it as a 4 year old, I still loved it and will always be my favorite mario game of all time.
bowser jr.s theme has one part that sounds like dialga final boss from pokemon mystery dungeon that always stuck with me !!! i remembered thinking WOW so epic
Buoy base was always my favorite. Have you heard the version from Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games? It got remixed. Bowsers galaxy generator from Galaxy 2 also got remixed and even Good Egg galaxy too and they sound awesome.
What a beautiful tier list you made. You bringed up so many good points and as a boy who were born 2005 and got this game when it came out. I can say that this game isn't just something that defined my childhood and it was not just a masterpiece, this is an artwork.
I think gusty garden really is amazing but the problem is just that youve heard it too much. It gets thrown around a LOT and when you keep hearing the same song, your opinion of it can easily go down
42:54 Bouldergeist’s daredevil mission took me more lives than Perfect Run did. I’m not kidding. Bouldergeist took me like 40 tries, while Perfect Run took less than 10. It’s warm but so damn lonely. It always makes me super emotional :,> Edit: ooh btw, I would love to see you rank LOZ, pokemon or animal crossing music. Movie end credits, this is their national anthem at this point Great song but I wish they remixed some of the other SMG tracks...

Gusty Garden was most likely chosen as the game's main theme because it was likely written *to be* the main theme, and was added to a level because they realized it actually needed to be somewhere in the game to be recognizable. My personal take on the song is that it's great and I love it, but I kinda wish the chorus had more brass to give more of an impact, because the chorus's melody sounds epic, and grandiose, but the first time it's played in the song, it lacks the sort umph I imagine it having in my head.
