If you remember the feeling that you completed ocarina of time that feeling of satisfaction and at the same time sadness well, it’s basically the same thing here in super Mario galaxy just doubled in intensity because you feel happy but sad at the same time happy because he completed everything and saves the entire universe within the game but sad you can hold longer see your favorite characters again unless if you replay it

I just realized how sad Rosalina’s story is from the perspective of the father. He loses his wife, the mother to his children, and then not long after his daughter vanishes without a trace.

    • @100lovenana
      @100lovenana 8 месяцев назад +19

As sad as Rosalina's story is, we have to consider it's structured on emotions rather than logic. It's sweet that she decided to care for the Lumas, but that gives the impression she doesn't care about the rest of her family: her father and little brother. What happened to them? Why are they only mentioned when she reminisces about the past? Why didn't she miss them too when she reaslized she was far away from home?
The emphasis of the story is in the loss of her mother, but the writers had to ignore common sense for that to happen, because in real life a child who has lost a family member would kling to the ones she still has left for fear of losing them too, therefore Rosalina wouldn't have decided to abandon them in exchange for the Lumas.

    • @lillith7257
      @lillith7257 Месяц назад +2

@@100lovenana Actually it makes sense. She was young, so being naive and thoughtless is perfectly in line with a small child. She saw the Luma sad. Her thought isn't immediately on her family because something so new and weird had appeared. Having heard about the loss of his mother made her immediately jump into action. Of course she doesn't think of her family till later. She is a child off on an adventure. and imo i don't think her family is alive at all. But even if it were all that i said still fits.

Thanks so much for this video. I was crying when you started talking about Rosalina and her story and was crying up until the end of the video when I gave it a standing ovation. Some backstory for me is that I had an awesome childhood, but then when I moved to a new town as a teenager, life became rough for me and I became the total opposite of how I used to be. Thankfully in recent years I’ve turned my life around for the better, but I have lots of permanent damage in my life. Rosalina represents me and the lumas represent my family that stuck by me during all the hard times I had in life. Thanks so much for your wonderful video and sharing your story with us to.

I’m sorry to hear that. I went through the same thing. Had a really rough patch in my mid teens. Started acting like an obnoxious dickhead and really desperate for the wrong people’s approval. You can see remnants of that in some of my old RUclips content (most of which no longer exists). But I got past that period of my life and realized I’m happier being true to myself, which is much more sentimental like this video. Thank you for watching and sharing your experience!

as someone who just moved halfway across the country half a year ago, miles and miles away from my dad, miles and miles away from my sister, have gone no contact with my mother because tldr Mommy Issues, this video hit me like a god damn truck. One of the few interests I ever had that my mother didn't make me feel small and ridiculous for having, was Mario; I remember happily sitting on the couch for hours watching her play the game, even reading through Rosalina's story together, her holding me as my young child self cried in her arms. She is no longer in my life. She is alive, but she hurt me so deeply growing up that now as a young adult I just can't have her in my life anymore. The mom that made me feel happy and safe and loved is sleeping beneath the tree on the hill. I feel so far away from everyone and everything that has ever made me feel safe and loved, and it hurts every single day. But it will get better; I needed this video right now more than ever. Am I crying my eyes out? You bet I am. Thank you for this. I needed it.

This game was my childhood and while things weren't easy coming up, after our problems, after another hard day at school, after another bout of feeling like a disappointment, I always knew when I got home and turned on my console, someone would be waiting for me on the other side of the screen for another adventure. Someone who wasn't disappointed in me. This series is so close to my heart and this video made me once again cry over this game 😂. This whole video was a roller coaster to go through. In the best way possible. As a child i never had the attention span to really dive into the chapters of the story, but listening to it now it brought me to tears knowing what i had missed years ago. I had known Mario galaxy since i was 3, and having that game around for all that time definetly left a big impact on me. It made me curious, wondering what there is beyond our world and solar systems. And as i got older the reality of the story started to way me down bit by bit, year by year. And now, I cant help but feel nothing but greatfulness to have experienced this game, as much as it hurt my feelings. In a way it feels right somehow. This game became a part of me. Without it, i wouldnt be the same. Watching the new mario movie just reignited my passion for those two games. Really cool video! Really put things into perspective for me, I never bothered with the story because I didn't care as a kid nor did I understand English. Something else that you made me realise about the observatory is that when you fall off, you are enwrapped in a bubble and put back onto the observatory. It's like a protective parental eye that's always making sure you're safe as you're exploring the house. And I chose to believe that it's Rosalina herself that keeps you from falling into space.

    • @atlasroyale5294

    - Took us on a nostalgic tour through some of the most memorable levels of the game.
    - Provided insightful analysis AND critique of the best and worst parts of the game's soundtrack.
    - Smoothly segued that soundtrack analysis into a thoughtful analysis of the game's story and moral lessons.

Didn't realize how much this game meant to me until watching this video, wow. This is so well done! You explain perfectly the simplistic beauty in the vastness of space behind all the levels and action. I didn't realize how nice it always felt to return to the peaceful observatory in between levels, and I really liked the analysis of the opening sequence where Mario is taken to a solitary planet to explore game mechanics after Bowser attacks the festival. I don't think I consciously tapped into the subtlety of what was going on when I first played it, but I found myself going "oh! that's exactly what that always felt like!" at so many points in this video. I remember getting lost in this game for hours-- the dreamy atmosphere was so captivating and I never really thought about why, and I'm so glad I came across this video to give me that answer. I haven't touched it in years but this video took me right back as if I never put it down. I think I would love to revisit it now, and play it through the lens of what was discussed in this video. mario galaxy was the first video game i ever played, and i'm so happy to see this emergence of excellent analytical video essays on it. the vastness of space depicted in the first game has the potential to feel just as unnerving and oppressively empty as the real world counterpart, but the subtle quiet warmth of the gateway galaxy and comet observatory make you feel at home. even as a 7 year old i would sometimes stop mid-level and look into the skybox, wondering if the gigantic shadowy planets in the backdrop had any life in them. after all, they were so much more massive than the little colorful planetoids you controlled mario on. however, it's the type of worldbuilding i'd rather not get any answers to. i'd much rather just observe from afar, knowing i have a comforting place to return to.

Excellent job on the video! I had a similar experience; I was dealing with really dark intrusive thoughts and extreme moods of depression I haven't gone through since 2014. I got to replay this game again early 2023, it absolutely helped and played a part to getting back into fighting the good fight. Super Mario Galaxy is an impossibly beautiful masterpiece of a game!

My long-standing theory of this game has always been that Rosalina died alongside her mother and couldn’t move on, that’s why she meets the luma and there’s no mention of her farther or brother looking for her (or anyone for that matter). It makes the themes of moving on past grieving her old life much more prominent

Mario Galaxy was the first game that got me into gaming as a whole. I don't quite remember the first game I ever played since I was quite young. To me though it was Mario Galaxy this what made gaming a passion for me. I remember being around the age of 6 years old and just being mesmerized by it all. Without this game I wouldn't be who I am today. Playing this game all those years back is one of the most important things ever to me. Gaming has gotten me through a lot in my life. And without this start to my passion I don't know where I'd be. There were some kids that grew up with Mario 64 . Some kids grew up with Mario Sunshine. Both games people remember and have nostalgia the same way we have with Mario Galaxy. To me this is beautiful and I love how we all share this same passion. Mario Galaxy till this day is my 2nd favorite game ever and it means so much to me! When I watched the Mario movie credits and heard Gusty Garden I had the biggest smile ever! It's crazy but to so many of us that have grown up we still look back. We remember all the good times we had and those inspire us till this day. One day some people will even look at Odyssey the same way we see Galaxy. They'll remember all the good times. And it might something important to them one day that inspired and helped them in life. For me you and so many of us they'll always be one game. That we'll always look back on and cherish the beauty of. And I wouldn't have it any other way that game is Super Mario Galaxy.❤

I was around the same age when I first picked up Galaxy. I remember being mesmerized by it, but I didn't quite appreciate it as much as I do now. But even still, the same deep cut emotions apply. I'm happy we all have similar feelings for different games, it brings us together while also adding variety to the discussion. For me, nostalgia isn't much of a factor as much as the raw emotion of playing this in my time of need is. But the emotions I get still feel the same. Thank you for commenting and I hope you stick around for more like this.

It’s a story it’s the atmosphere. It’s the characters you meat along the way. It experience you feel. When you beat a boss, it is so rewarding. I am so glad. I finally get to sit down and play this game because it is a masterpiece.

One thing i'd like to think is part of this game's story telling. Rosalina, i think she is influencing some of these levels. The toy level and the garden one. i think Boswer in turn influences levels negatively.
it's sad but kinda nice to think these levels are her wanting to make things happy and full of life. Parts of her childhood and parts of her hopes in some of these levels.

I remember my brother that the lumas basically died when you got them to transform, and I kind of internally rejected that idea because I didn't like it. The thought of so many of those friendly lumas just casually dying (debatably because of the player) was too horrible for me to stomach. And in such a light relaxing game too!
After watching this video, I've accepted and made peace with the lumas transformations. It feels right.

I really did grow up with this game. Even if I haven’t 100% the game (yet), I still regard it as the best Mario game.
The game is lonely and exciting and beautiful all at the same time.
The soundtrack and sound design compliments all of those feelings. Gusty Garden Galaxy will always bring me back to just feeling okay, no stress, no responsibility, nothing just me.
I love each rendition and will always hold a special place in my heart.
Zelda games have always been my favorite but I believe that galaxy matches Zelda in the sense that the feeling of beautiful simplicity the soundtrack brings will always be special. I hold galaxy up as one of my definitive favorite games of all time.
Rosalina’s story will always be very emotional for me as well, it’s nothing like previous Mario games had ever given us.
I love Mario Galaxy and will never stop praising it.

I’m glad We can agree that Mario Galaxy is an Absolute Masterpiece of a game, I grew up playing this when I was 5 up until my Wii was busted, until just last year I got my hands on a switch, after that I hope I’d get 3d all star mainly for galaxy, yet it didn’t happen. That was until yesterday late at night, someone was selling a copy of 3d all stars in my community and I KNEW I had to get it, further on the night I ask my mother to buy it and with no hesitation she went to buy it (with my money, which was so worth it), and after a half hour she returned with the game cartridge and when I held it in my hands, the memories came back. As soon as that was over I quickly started playing the game, and as soon the I entered the star festival, I melted into joy. It’s crazy to think that this game was my childhood, now that I’m 15, it’s just an honour to play this game once more (which I’m currently doing). Thx for reading this, sorry if it’s too much I just needed to express this with someone who feels the same about Mario Galaxy

When I first played the game on the original Wii as a kid, I didn't think it was so special.
However, as I grew up and played the game again on Super Mario 3D All-Stars (Switch), I now realize how special it is. That's how the Mario Galaxy games became my favorite Mario games. A serious story you would probably never see in another Mario game, beautiful orchestral music, the galactic atmosphere, and Rosalina's story.
While Galaxy 2 didn't have the heartwarming and serious story as the first one, it was still a great game.

After 5 minutes I called my son to watch this video with me :), I play it with him and daughter and all of us love it.
Actually I thought this will be video about both Mario Galaxy, but it is about 1. General opinion is that 2nd is better and levels are, but I always liked 1st more.
Mostly because of Rosalina. I did really love the mother figure she was for Luma's and I did love all the cut scenes with her. She was a perfect solution for a general mood of this game. Daisy would be to merry. Rosalina is nice, warm but also sad. I loved the reading stories segments too. I did read them to my children same time Rosaline read for hers :)
I don't have to tell you, that even I loved 2nd part, we both were disappointed with purple fat guy replacing the great princess :)

I really was surprised by my 10 year old comments that he say this his favorite Mario because of that layer of sadness. People say that you shouldn't expect Mario to have a story, but this game beats II part and Odyssey because of it I think.
I still got small 6 year old who is not skilled enough to play this game and I hope we will in few years.
